He will need time but I am not detecting a real style yet plus im pissed off that Kuduz is being ignored (while he had a great preseason).
It feels like we took 2 huge steps backwards after EtH departured. Time will tell
You surely can't be an Ajax fan and refer to him is Kuduz in two consecutive posts..
But apart from that.. Who would you drop in order to give Kudus a chance? Would he play in attack of midfield? And how would that midfield look in your opinion, especially when Alvarez is back next game..

Our attack is crap, I'm not optimistic about this game at all.

If he keeps this up, Szymanski might be on that list too. He looks fantastic.
In my opinion Taylor for sure. It's criminal to have Kudus on the bench and Taylor on the pitch. Taylor is average. I feel like he's pushed into the team just because he's a youth product. That's also why so many fans push (and overrate) him. He is average though. Kudus is a much better player.
With the false 9 not working last week I feel like Tadic will/should be a #10.

In CL against the better opponents I'd still start Tadic as a false 9 and then put Berghuis or Klaassen in at #10. Berghuis I suspect might become a problem in the group though if his role starts to decline - which should probably happen.
Being raised in the UK by a mother from the Rotterdam-area, I've always followed the Eredivisie closely. Really impressed by the Feyenoord squad this season, despite losing 7 of their starting 11 players at the conf. league final, they seem to have come back pretty decently. What do you reckon are their changes of getting into the top-2 this year and possibly reach Champions League next year?

Agreed, Berghuis will be pushed out for either Tadic or Kudus
He can always come back to de Kuip. That lawn doesnt mow itself.
Do you really rate Taylor that highly by the way? He kinda came out of nowhere (for me). Would be nice to have another good midfield option for Oranje.

We clearly are not going to agree on this one. Calling Taylor the best midfielder is just outrageous, to me he's quite clearly the worst (of the serious contenders). He's decent in a lot of areas, but he doesn't stand out in any. He is however playing in the most important position of the team, especially in CL and domestic top matches, this is the most important position. When teams pressure us, he's the one in the position that's suppose to withstand the pressure and turn defense into offensive. He's in the FdJ / Gravenberch role and they were the most important midfielders especially when teams try to pressure us.
Taylor is decent on the half of the opponent, but he's poor on our own half. When pressured he either loses the ball or creates a problem for his teammate (like a simple pass back to Wijndal when he can already see that he has nowhere to go). Quite often his positioning is also poor which leads to him not being available to receive a pass and therefore the defenders having to play the long ball or pass back to the GK rather than move forward. That's where FdJ and Gravenberch made a difference and Taylor simply doesn't have the qualities. He doesn't speed up the game and he doesn't have solutions under pressure. Kudus is technically superior, is better in dribbling, is faster and has a better physique. His tools to be press resistant are superior to Taylor. Taylor is probably only better in mid-range passing.
Alvarez at least has body to protect him under pressure and his physicality and ball winning qualities can't be missed in this team. However then next to him you're going to need a press resistant player that can turn defense into offense. Taylor is just not that. He was piss poor against PSV and the same against Fortuna in the first half. He did decent in the second half, but the whole team was in control in the second half. As mentioned, Taylor is decent on the half of the opponent, but let's be honest here when judging on qualities on the opponents half then we're talking more about the #10 position and on that position Tadic and Berghuis are also superior. I would even put Berghuis ahead of Taylor at #8, as he did well there last year as well. However ultimately I see the most in Kudus in that position.
If we play Taylor in the CL I'm fairly convinced we will not be seriously contending for a top 2 position and we'll have a hard enough time to even secure the 3rd place in the group. He's just not good enough for that level and he's playing in the most important position of this team. At the highest level that's the position that's going to determine whether we can be press resistant or not and that determines our potential in Europe (and even the top matches in ED). Although Taylor was shit against Fortuna in the first half, generally speaking he should be fine in Eredivisie against the lower and midtable teams. However in European matches and the bigger ED matches he's just not ready for that. He doesn't have any standout qualities required at that level.

I am neutral. Generally speaking I'd like to see United back contending for prices, as long as they play positive football. Bergwijn was a huge talent in the academy, did very well for PSV.
Started averagely for the NT and I didnt really rate him. Didnt succeed at Spurs, but picked up form for the NT.
He has started brilliantly at Ajax, looks amazing. Shows that the Eredivisie is much weaker ofcourse but really curious how he will do in Europe. Will have a strong chance to start next to Memphis in Qatar.

I do think all the talk about Ajax having too much players massively exaggerated though.. Throughout the season you will always have injuries and with so many games coming up, there will bound to be some rotation.. It will be interesting if Schreuders dares to also include Tadic in the rotation.. I think if you communicate this right from the start there should be no problem.. Last year Blind and Tadic were by far the players with the most minutes for Ajax, which is just ridiculous.. Leave them out of the squad sometimes during Eredivise home games. That will also give room to others..

Veerman is a big surprise for me as well. I was actually happy we missed out on him, because he gave me Mark Diemers vibes, but he's excellent and disicive so far.
@KirkDuyt What are your thoughts on Feyenoord this year... They certainly are quite busy...
I went from, we will end midtable to we will compete for the league back to we will finish 3rd.
It's excuting we signed a lot of players that arent from midtable Eredivisie teams, but if a few of the big money signings are flops we will be fecked.
Szymanski looks great so far, but Gimenez came across a bit rubbish in the (admittedly few) minutes he played against Heerenveen.
Very frustrating game anyway, which we should've won. It highlights that we will still have a lot of trouble with teams sitting back collectively as we lack the creativity or quality Ajax (and PSV to a lesser extent) have to break through. I don't rate Walemarack at all, I think Dilrosun may have some impact occasionally and who ever thought it was a good idea to sign Idrissi should be fired on the spot.
Bottom line, our defense is okay, our midfield is great and our attack is crap.

Id argue (but then again.. I dont know Wahlemark, Giminez, Dilrosun and Paixao that well) that you have a lot of options in attack and therefore a lot of potential weapons..
Wingers:
Wahlemark.. Was highly rated in Sweden, must have some talent.
Dilrosun.. Had showed form in the Bundesliga that earned him a spot in the Dutch team.. He is raw, but there is danger there.. very quick as well.
Jahanbakhsch.. He had an awful last year, but he was great at AZ. Surely there must be something left there that could be ignited at least to a player to do well in the Eredivisie.
Paixao.. No idea, but he sounds exciting.
Idrissi.. See Jahanbaksch.
Strikers:
Giminez.. Mexican international, must have some talent.
Danilo.. No world beater, but he will definitely bring you goals in the Eredivisie and who knows how he could develop.
I feel like unlike other years you are actually creating competition. In terms of transfer you are also putting your eggs in mulitple baskets, which sounds like a good thing. Who cares (financially) if Wahlemark and Jahakbaksch fail if Paixao is a big hit and Dilrosun and Danilo do reasonably well... Im very curious!
I fully can imagine you being excited about non Utrecht, Fortuna, Vitesse players coming in.. I remember Ajax getting Wielaert, Soetaers, Lindebergh..

Idrissi is also talented, but he doesn't have the mentality to succeed I think. Jury's still out on Dilrosun and to a lesser extend on Walemarck, but the latter just seems extremely lightweight, even if he is technically sound.
I hope Giminez will become a sensation, but we'v just bought so many duds over the years that I'm hesitant to be optimistic

Forgot about him, yeah he's doing well at Atalanta.
Just like the other Atalanta players he consistently underperforms in the NT imo. The system that Atalanta plays makes the whole greater than the sum of it's parts.
Yeah, his "handelingssnelheid" is too low for a top midfielder I think.

I know too little about him. Seems to have fallen of a cliff after 2020. Dont know how I feel about this signing.

With Ziyech we know what we'll get. He knows the club, the manager and still a decent part of his teammates. I'm pretty sure we'd be absolutely fine with Ziyech and it would be good to see him back in our shirt.
Ocampos can be a success as well. He is definitely a good player. However, he will have to adjust to the club, the team and the style of play. Ajax is more of a combination football team than one of individualism. We'll have to wait and see whether he can adjust to that. On top of that you've already mentioned that he can be a bit of a cvnt. So we'll have to see whether he fits into the group and how he reacts to everyone.
Honestly I'd rather we didn't take him and left with no replacement. On the other hand, he is a good player that definitely offers something. I can see him being a success as well. If PSV got him as a Gakpo replacement I think they would seriously improve. Their style of play definitely suits him, but I'm not sure if ours does as well.

Dont really know him well enough... But i have to say I wasnt in favor of buying a successor for Antony (unless we could get Ziyech.. Legend), since we already have Conceicao.. In general Im a bit worried about us buying too much lately...
Im not against buying quality players obviously, but Ajax should alway keep in mind that there is perspective for the youth.. I think it should be in our policy that our 5th or 6th player in a linie (defense/midfielder/attack) should always be a young talent on the verge of breakthrough.. So that they have perspective of a chance of breakthrough..
Players like Sontje Hansen, Naci Unuvar, Kian Fitz Jim, Christian Rasmussen, Youri Baas, Youri Regeer should all have a realitsic aim to make a lot of minutes and have their breakthrough..
I have the feeling we are moving towards the 'wrong' side of the balance with buys like Lucca and Ocampos in the 'buy quality player to fill squad gaps vs giving opportunity for youth to fill squad gaps' spectrum.. We had enough players who could occupy the right wing..
Yeah Ziyech returning would've been far more awesome. At this stage I rate Ziyech over Antony really. As for Ocampos, I'm sure he'll do well in the league, but the 19 yellow cards and 1 red in 100 games as a winger is crazy
