This is odd, as i really wanted Defoe to be given a chance in the last phase of friendlies but this tiem would have rathered Ashton. Still hoping he'll get some game time with him being on the bench.

Lampard and Gerrard best be up for this, can't be affording for them to be casual in midfield.

Can't see him playing there, although that is how they're officially lined up. I think it will be a 4-3-3 with Rooney and Gerrard playing off Defoe. I'd Imagine it will look something like this:

-------------James--------------
Brown--Ferdinand--Terry--A. Cole
-Beckham--Hargreaves--Lampard-
Gerrard-------------------Rooney
--------------Defoe-------------
 
The problem still remains for the Lampard-Gerrard midfield. Stevie G is not at home on the left. Play him in the middle. Anyway apart from that, the team is quite strong. Also nice to see Becks starting again. Lets hope all the players put in a performance to be proud of.

Rooney - Ashton partnership was the main reason why I was going to watch tonight.

I think they're making some fair points mate - they're acknowledging his potential while agreeing with Capello that he should be more selfish in his play. Nothing wrong with that.

Capellos a bottler. How Defoe has been chosen over Ashton or Crouch is just plain wrong. As for Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard all in midfield......you think he'd learn from Sven and McClarens mistakes

Hennessey, Gunter, Ashley Williams, Craig Morgan, Nyatanga, Ledley, Collison, Fletcher, Koumas, Dave Edwards, Eastwood.

So Collison starts. I hope Ramsey gets on at some point too. No idea if Bellamy has even made the bench. There were rumours that he wasn't going to be risked at all.

That would have been my ideal choice for midfield, well maybe Lampard for Gerrard I haven't decided yet

Perhaps so, though i **** they'd take it too far and to the detriment of Rooney as a player. We shall see as time goes on.

Could also have something to do with both of them being forever negative about England and rarely offering up anything to the contrary, they're set in their ways, soemthign we can all eb guilty of i suppose.

Well Bellamy is fully fit just rusty, i'm hoping he gets some games for Wales so he isn't too rusty come pre season

With Collison starting i'm going to watch the Wales match

I've not seen much of Ramsey so hopefully i'll get to see a bit from him tonight

Wales has a very young squad and if they carry on as they are they will have a stronger squad than England in a few years

He will be judged best of all come the actual qualifiers and Croatia away, in particular.

The Defoe thing I don't mind, he deserves the odd chance as well seen as Sven never picked him. Crazy midfield though - what ever happened to wingers?

Oh well there is always Britain's Got Talent on ITV........
 
Only 4 changes in the England team from the ones which played France and Portugal in 2004.

Brown for G. Neville, Ferdinand for Campbell, Hargreaves for Scholes, Defoe for Owen.

Given that Neville and Owen could well have started if fit and that Capello's reported to be keen to get Scholes back what does this say about the future of English football?

Has there really not been any talent produced in the last 4 years?

I agree, most are the same people who go on about suporting Portugal becuase they have 2 United players. England have alot more. Even if you don't care about international football and you are a United fan, you cannot hate England too much.

I'd make three changes straight away

Play a proper left sided midfielder
Partner Rooney with Ashton, Defoe and Rooney has already been tried
Make Ferdinand captain, none of this "sympathy for JT" bs that seems to be happening.
