Yes it's here again folks, the lucky cricket thread started by me.

Tomorrow at 4.30 am the best cricket team in the world take on the Pakistan chancers without injured their injured skipper. Fatty Tresco takes over for a test or two.

This is the official thread as i'm fecked if i'm coming on here to start it at 4am, but I will be up and ready to watch when play starts.

Feel free to pour praise on the Mighty England cricket team.

Anyone here every travelled to watch England play.

I went to Barbados last year to see them thrashed the Windies. Had a great time. Also saw the 33rd ever test match hat-trick.

Will they gor for 4 bowlers and the mighty Fred… or just 3? Two spinners or one?

Two spinners, two fasts and Freddy.

Here are the 13 man squads for each team:

England (from) Marcus Trescothick (capt), Andrew Strauss, Ian Bell, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Geraint Jones (wkt), Ashley Giles, Shaun Udal, Matthew Hoggard, Stephen Harmison, Matt Prior, James Anderson.

Pakistan (from) Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Inzamam-Ul-Haq (capt), Mohammad Yousuf, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal (wkt), Naved-Ul-Hasan, Danish Kaneria, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar, Shabbir Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed.

Prior and Anderson will probably be the ones to be excluded from the starting XI.

Team likely to be

Tresco
Strauss
Bell-end
KP
Collingwood
Lord Flintoff of Lancs
Teflon Jones
Giles
Great Uncle Udal
Shaggy Hoggard
Grievious Bodily Harmison.

There's a suggestion Prior might get the nod ahead of Bell as a batsman. If he does well and Jones doesn't, they could then make Prior keeper.

getting the bad knocks out of the way ;)

Dont see it myself. Bell deserves to be given a go against someone other than the Aussies and Bangladeshis.

I've been to see England abroad a couple of times.

Was out in Sydney for the test England won in Aus the last time we played there and in Cape Town in January for the one we lost in SA.

Brilliant thing to do - don't fancy Pakistan really and probably not India.

Fancy the Windies and Sri Lanka though...

Was that where Harmo took 7-12?

No, that was the first test.

I saw the third test. Freddie got his 5-for, Thorpe got a century and Hoggie got a hat-trick in the second innings.

Feck off out of my thread, I got sick of all the moaning all summer about us getting whipped by the Aussies.

As Ian Botham once said, I would not even take my mother-in-law to Pakistan.

neither can Udal....

Flinthoff and Hoggard will have the pakistanni's for garters.

England will go in with 4 specialist bowlers plus Flintoff, as they always do

The choice is Udal, Loudon or Anderson.

Who's winning the moustache competition?

There's never been a decent 'tache in cricket since Merv Hughes' heroic efforts.

Udal.

Giles has already shown the spinners can do well here.

His action does look a bit weak.

Test average of 53 and a easily misread series against Aus.

He go 3 or 4 bad decisions in the series.

He was brilliant against the worst and rubbish against the best. He deserves a go against a middle of the range team.

The fact that collingwood has moved ahead of him in the pecking order suggests the selectors have lost a bit of confidence in him.

sutty said:
Agree he is the likely candidate

Loudon has a doosra and is the better batsman though

Udal is the safer option because he is more experience. Loudon has a lot of potential but they probably think he isnt ready yet.

:D

He's in his late 30s.

He does look like a middle aged dad on a family holiday there. All he needs is socks with his sandles

...and a hankie on his head!

Slight over simplification I think that, mate.

I think with Jones out of the side Collingwood's bowling has bumped him up the hierarchy

From the sounds of it Bell was out of the team until Vaughan got injured, which surprised me.

But before Vaughan's injury, Bell was to miss out and Collingwood was to keep his place. I know he can bowl a bit, but we were bringing in an extra bowler.
