England v South Africa: Rugby World Cup Final

SA are world champions well done to them. England did us proud

Yup, played in good spiriit, and an enjoyable game really, congrats SA but very well played England for an excellant World Cup campain, but for a bad try overulling we could have snuck over the line.

I'm not going to blame the ref England did give 3 silly pens away but as I said I am real proud of the England team.

the fecking video ref was an aussie n all from what i heard

absolute fecking disgrace

That explains everything, fecking cnut. I saw every fecking replay and couldn't see a thing wrong with it. He picked his foot up before the line, it didn't go into touch, that replay from behing showed that.

Best team in the WC won...

Awful final

I disagree, thought it was an engrossing game, no trys but a battling display none the less.

Edit: Yes the best team did win btw.

Well done England, the only chance we had was to turn it into a final like that, we did that, just didn't quite have enough. Absolutely no question the best team won, on the day I don't think there was a lot in it, very tight video official call at the start of the 2nd half, I wonder if it would have made a difference anyway. Well done Safrica

Jason Robinson, Phil Vickery, Mike Catt and many more will retire now been a credit to English rugby.

Best team in the tournament won in the end but a truly disgraceful decision to disallow a perfectly good try must have had some bearing on the result.

It wasn't a shite game. It wasn't nearly as one sided as what people are making out either. Neither team took the risk of trying to force the issue, until the situation meant England were forced to. No doubt who the better team is on their day though.

The video ref thing was annoying. If you're going to take about ten minutes to make a decision, you could at least make sure it's right.

Still, no real complaints. SA are a far better team than England

That's about right. Wasn't remotely one-sided, Saffers played very conservatively and restricted us with their superior kicking, we were the ones who came out and played, as you say cos we had to. Ultimately weren't good enough, and gave away some poor penalties.

Well done Boks, very good side.

Bugger.

Dont think it was a shite final, 2 good teams playing the game hard and passionately. Just because there wasnt 5 tries apiece doesnt make it shite.
It was rubbish, basically a sterile 0-0 draw decided on penalties. The one bit of skill in the game was rewarded with a shit reffing decision which took five minutes to get wrong.

I thought it was too close to call... it's impossible to tell on TV whether his foot touched the line before he lifted it or not. You'd've thought in such cases they should allow the try - in part cos it favours attacking play, more because the alleged infringement could not be proved.

Is it normal for the ref to say to the TV ref, "Can you give me any reason why I shouldn't award a try"? Surely if he didn't see an infringement, he shouldn't ask for a replay? Sounded funny in an Irish accent, anyway - like he really wanted a reason.

Still, let's not be bitter... the cnuts

I was also somewhat confused by the eventual conclusion of "ball was in touch"

erm...

SA best team in the comp - well done
Very dissapointed with the ref, It was a tight call to make but surely you have to give the advantage to the attacking side - to me there was minimal, if any, contact with the line - it was a try, and that would have made the game very very different.

What is it about crap refs costing England big time this week?
First in Moscow now in France..

Also he got the decision to award SA their last penalty wrong

His foot touched the line before lifting and didn't touch down again until after the ball was grounded.

What is the rule? Is touching the line enough to be considered in touch?

If so it wasn't a try.

Sadly.

I wanted England to win but his foot quite plainly touched the line and then lifted prior to tha ball being grounded. Assuming that is the rule.

The shot from behind is pretty conclusive. Sadly.

Thought it was an evenly contested match. England pushed it towards the end but was a highly tactical game from both side. Habana didn't have much to do that I can recall apart from those 2 huge tackles on Sackey in the 1st half. Matthew Tait had a cracking game though, huge tackles on defence and good on the attack.

Deserved winners though the Springboks.

Hard luck England, I was hoping ye would do it !....... The non-try was a very tough call, but the foot was just about out of play, so it was a brave, but correct call. A few years ago, pre Video-ref, the try would have stood, no question. anyway, hard luck...... at least ye got there, not like us paddy's !
