England v Australia - Fifth Ashes Test - The Oval

Good start for England, looks like they'll make a fair few this innings and the match will drag on to a draw.

Shit I hope Trott makes some runs, a nice solid debut 50 would be excellent.

Why does it do that ,its like he is fed up and wants to get out.
It was a stupid shot to even try ,even more so when the Aussie know he will do it and put a man there to catch him.

Lack of patience. Hes seen loads of loose balls come down wide and all hittable. Eventually he has a slash at one and gets himself out.

Worst thing was, he had a wild slash at the previous ball, so you would have thought he would have been careful with the next one.

Trott off the mark. That’s a big relief.

Shane Warne calling him Vince Vaughn.

Looks like a dead ringer of Jaques Kallis to me.

Excellent shot from Trott just now (the cover drive, not the outside edge he followed up with).

Prior got sucked in there.

Looks like we're getting right on top now, but at least Trott's looking solid - keep going son!

Doesn't help when your best player's playing on one leg, and your best batsman's out.

Also doesn't help when half your side's actually South African. But hey, at least you can claim it was only a 70% English loss.

fecking hell we're shit

Worst Aussie side I've ever seen, and we're still not in their league

242-5. No need to panic.

This isnt the flat batting track that people were saying it would be.

There will be big turn on day 3 and 4 as the pitch is deteriorating already.

I doubt it will go to day 5 - just look though this thread at the amount of people saying it would be a draw!!!

And on that note, funnily enough, about 70% of Siddle's face is mouth.

To be fair, he's top wicket taker in the series, with the best average.

I think I understand what he means. Hilfenhaus is very disciplined, but hasn't produced a single spell that takes your breath away like the really good bowlers are capable of. He's just really good at sticking to the plan.

Warne's been talking crap about the players every chance he gets. Start of play today.. started with Bopara, then went to Trott(calling him Vince Vaughn) and then had a dig at Collingwood.

Woop. There it iiiisssss.

Crap shot from Flintoff, and once again Johnson gets a wicket from a shit nut.

Hahaha, Warne was having a laugh re: Trott. Nothing sinister in it.

Don't you know what's going to happen?

I do.

Johnson will clean up the tail and end up with extremely flattering figures.

Bah, don't know why I have cracks at him he actually seems like a good bloke amongst a collection of cnuts.

Apperently he is.

But hes a cnut on the pitch - eyeballing the batsman after bowling a shit ball.

Plus he looks like that twat from the Peugeot 308 advert.

Yeah I don't like the eyeballing, but everyone does it and you can tell it's not at all convincing (looks like he doesn't believe it either).

Haven't seen that Peugeot ad, but I started to dislike him simply because everyone started to talk him up something ridiculous after - feck!!!!!!!!! bad luck Trott, well batted in your opening test - the last few series... Tall poppy syndrome and all that.

looked like a no-ball from north for the trott dismissal

Cesc, why are you pretending to be magnanimous towards opponents?

In the other thread you claimed that 'just thinking about' the day Fergie will retire 'makes you sad'

Now it's all 'keep going son!' and 'feck - he's out'... for fecking Jonathan Trott

Stop it... it's unnerving

More shambolic batting from England.

Extras 36 is England's fourth highest scorer of the day.

On a more positive note, there has been a lot of talk all day about how the pitch really seems to be taking spin. Maybe Swann will be our saviour. :nervous:

 Er, sorry?

Firstly I've been listening to this rather excellent song that's had me in good spirits. Secondly, and probably most importantly, I've been hopped up on pain-killers due to me tearing one of my my ankle ligaments the other night.

But yeah, coming into this series I couldn't have given two shiny shits about whether we won or not, in fact I think I'd have preferred it if we lost (and Melbourne Red can quote me on that). But after the first and second tests... Well I suppose you could say old hatreds die hard. Really I'm more or less barracking for an English loss than an Australian win. I just don't like enough of the players any more.

No players will make me do happy-wees like Mark Waugh and Damien Martyn did every time they elegantly guided the ball to the fence. Sigh.

As for Trott, well I felt sorry for him for being thrown in the deep-end like that, and I just wanted to see him succeed in his first (and what may be his only?) test. The rest of the side can fail for all I care.

Also the day Fergie and Wenger retire will be the end of a massive chapter in the League, and our respective club's histories. Massive.

You're Australian though... this shit ain't right.

I have to say I used to love Steve Waugh. Even when he was thrashing us around I couldn't bring myself to want him to be out. Not only was he a fecking great batsman, he had Keano-like resolve and discipline. He had a lot more shots in the locker than he'd allow himself to play.

I also had a soft spot for Greg Ritchie, for some bizarre reason

Yeah I suppose it is pretty strange, but I think I relate more to certain players than the team as a whole. For example once Martyn retired V.V.S. Laxman became my favourite player simply because he was the most aesthetically pleasing to watch. My all time favourite player is Mark Waugh, which speaks for itself.

On a side note it's strange how he and his brother were practically polar opposites as players.

Anyway it all started a few years ago when we just couldn't stop winning, and that's all well and good when you're younger but when you get a bit more mature it just becomes boring as feck. Unless it's when you're beating the South Africans of course, which is always fun (but several of my best mates are South African's so I suppose that helped). So I stopped caring, and eventually started hoping we'd lose just so games would become a bit more interesting. I think now we're nowhere near the force we used to be Cricket's become that much more interesting.

I also think that if the Pom's weren't so rubbish all the time you may have been able to see where I was coming from.

:)

C'mon Aussies!

Ive liked johnson since he first came on the stage. He bowled this one nut against one of the sub continents in a one dayer, we had htem like 5 for 30 or something... it was the perfect ball. This patch of bad bowling makes me sad. Although his bowling action deserves no less.

The first two England bowling sessions today will decide this

If England take a session to get warmed up, find line and length then it will be over and the Ozz will be away

Flintoff and Harmison need to be right on the money right from the off - early wickets to get amongst 'em and give us a fighting chance

If Ozz get away with no loss before lunch then that will be the end of that imo

Very true. This is the key day.
