Elon Musk's epic bacon adventures

I get you, but this thread also discusses the somewhat surreal & to think that two people might be such acolytes of Tesla / Musk to give up their autonomy & safety just to be hipster or cutting edge is baffling to me.

It’s a bit of the extension of when you were a kid & giggled at your friend wiping out on a bike. This is that writ large.

I’ve just never seen the validity in the feral worship some have for Musk & his inventions (with the exception of SpaceX). It’s bizarre, the cult of personality & the apparent trust in his inventions.
Because it’s exciting to see someone making big engineering bets on big stuff and a lot of people hope he’ll succeed because who else is really trying? People loved Steve jobs too even though he was pretty much an awful human being who took a lot of product credit that wasn’t his, because he represented and influenced an approach to technology that connected with people. Similar to Musk. SpaceX has the potential to be genuinely transformational, it is solving all the right space problems after decades of the US space programme going nowhere.

Space x is an excuse to send mind controlled monkeys (with stupid names) to Mars where they can tweet that people are peados without being sued

There is at least a 20% chance of musk declaring himself king of Mars in the next 20 years... from the surface.

Don’t recall too many people giving their lives in their worship of Steve Jobs & Apple.

Please don’t equate two idiots in a car with astronauts involved in space exploration.

That’s just fecking insane.

Come on, stop with the pedantic red herring.

Users of the product.

That is true, there are no recorded incidents of people who have ever used a technology in non manufacturer approved ways other than Tesla users.

That said, it is wrong that Musk is allowed to make over stated claims about the self driving capabilities of his cars and he should be held accountable for that.

He absolutely should if the claims are demonstrably proven to be inflated / overstated.
Not all culpability falls with the two mensas in the car.

I don’t watch it a lot but seems a strange choice given he’s incredibly awkward and unfunny

He keeps posting the absolute worst memes on Twitter and literally every single reply is laughing emojis and people basically worshiping him. I am so confused.

I just don't get it. I just don't fecking get it. Why do people love him?

Because he's a maverick and a bit of a cnut. He's the messiah of all the reddit/crypto sphere and he smoked weed on the Joe Rogan podcast and talked hours about aliens. But mostly he's a car battery salesman who makes billions by shilling doge.

Meme culture.

He’s the hero for the Twitch/YouTube/Reddit shitposting crowd, and for impressionable, very online young men at large. A hipster billionaire who unapologetically promotes previously much maligned stuffs like anime, games, cryptocurrency.

Even with all this I still don’t get it. It’s like if someone’s dad started posting decade old memes and everyone just fecking laps it up. Baffles me.

It’s the ultimate nerd vindication. They live vicariously through him, here’s an average looking, awkward guy with a shit sense of humour who’s unabashedly into anime, yet he’s the richest man in the world and dates movie stars. A power fantasy, that’s all it is. He’s everything they aspire to be.

Most of it are fake profiles/bots, kids, and probably just third of it are normal people who are idiots and shhouldn't act like that, but that's humanity for you. People are idiots.

I find him rather cringey and his attitude towards unions is deplorable but he's done some good work pushing EV awareness and pushing further space exploration via his companies. He doesn't deserve the worship at all mind.
