Elon Musk's epic bacon adventures

Ironically, Elon Musk does seem to be showing the requisite empathy, as well as actually taking concrete steps to help the afflicted. Starting with the schools. Of course none of this matters because he’s a one dimensional cartoon villain to you - the evil rich man.

Again, not accurate. Like I said before 4bars jumped in, it was a start. Sure, I went a bit overboard but I took it personally. As I stated I have friends who are living with this situation every single day. To have someone across the world say they should be grateful and portray them as whiny is not on.

Ok, fair enough. I'm mainly being my naturally argumentative self. An obvious prat like Musk probably isn't worth going in to bat for. Even though I do think he's done a lot to help the shift away from coventional fuels in cars and that's a good thing, in my book. I don't know enough about what's going on in Flint to have firm opinions, one way or another.

elon is a billionaire and people are suffering while he builds flamethrowers. if you are going to be glib about what poor people go through then feck off
See, I don't get this, Eboue.

He's one of the few people trying to do something about it and you still shit on him.

Or is it because he's working on other projects too in the meantime?

I think @Eboue feels like there’s a house on fire and Musk owns a swimming pool but has shown up with a bucket of water to help, and people are asking him why he’s not happy about the bucket.

Musk aside the fact we as a country aren’t talking about the Flint crisis every day is pretty shameful. I’m not much better, I’ve done some pro bono work with people affected but nowhere near enough or as much as I planned to do

FBI investingating Tesla about manipulating share price by overstating production numbers to the stock market

Musk really should take the company private (without talking publicly about that) ... He's incapable of running a public company properly it seems

These last few pages are gold

This entire thread has always felt like a one man meltdown/vendetta though. Mental

Like any other CEO of a publicly listed company

hahah! So basically you have no idea how taking it private would work @sun_tzu?

The only way it would be remotely possible would be a full Saudi buyout, one of the most expensive acquisitions in history for a company in 10 billion dollars of debt and a company that makes no money. It's simply not going to happen, would possibly be the most stupid transaction in stock market history.

Right now the public sector values Tesla at an incredible price, which is great for the company and the sole reason they even still exist now. I mean, you said it yourself, "the FBI are currently investigating Tesla about manipulating share price by overstating production numbers to the stock market". The mere fact that Tesla can time and time again manipulate the share price by coming out with nonsense ideas or lying about production is great for a company that makes no money, constantly needs new investment and burns through hundred of millions of dollars ever quarter.

What kind of dividends do Tesla pay out then given that they seemingly haven't made any money selling cars? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm an economics noob.

None of course.

A company can't pay dividends if it's only ever made money in two quarters since IPO 8 years ago. The latest from Tesla regarding future dividend payments is:

• Tesla has never declared dividends on our common stock. We intend on retaining all future earnings to finance future growth and therefore, do not anticipate paying any cash dividends in the foreseeable future.

Yet despite all that, @freeurmind the public sector still has values tesla at $56.7 billion. Hence why any idea of "taking Tesla private" are pie in the sky.

How routine is it for a company to be valued at that much without actually making any money? I mean surely at some point investors have to demand some sort of return on their investment right?

Well the share price is the current return, hence why Musk has no problem tweeting nonsense in an effort to bump up the share price. If the shares keep increasing, that's great for the investors.

Tesla is an extremely rare case. The amount of extremely intelligent traders that continue to short the stock tells you everything you need to know, Tesla should have gone bankrupt a while back, especially after the capital raise of $1.8 billion on junk bonds in 2017.... but, nothing happens, Tesla keeps raising money, Tesla keeps throwing hundreds of millions into the incinerator every quarter and Tesla keeps going.

All I see on my LinkedIn is people obsessing over Elon Musk, and how cool and innovative he is bla bla bla. He really can do no wrong for these people.

If severed top of finger is the most serious injury then I'm glad they are going in a taxi and not an ambulance. I've turned on Musk recently but there's not much in those tweets with any weight.

Actively taking steps to avoid having to report workplace accidents is not much?

But are they? Is there more to it than these tweets? Because there's very little weight there to suggest this is the case.

Nice of you to come along and prove VorZakone's point.

Nice of you to provide a snide comment instead of a conversation as per. If there's more evidence then I'm all ears. I think Musk is a cnut after the Thailand situation, but there's not much info there. Not going to hospital in an ambulance with a cut finger isn't gonna cut it for me.

Theres tons of evidence, you just choose not to care about it. The latest evidence is his company transporting injured workers in a feckin Lyft. If you think that's fine (its not) and normal (its not) then theres no conversation to be had.

The tweets reference eyewitness accounts. You can take it at face value and ask the right questions to determine the validity of these accounts or you can ask the wrong questions and claim fake news.

You have no idea about the seriousness of these injuries though. If severed top finger is the worst (which could just be a deep cut) then I'd suggest it's not that bad.

If they're genuinely not reporting injuries, then why? Is there more there than other places? If so, obviously something is wrong. If not, then why would they be bothered about covering things up?

I'd ask questions about the person tweeting and anyone reporting, not the accounts. That's all. It's easy to get attention from this as it's flavour of the month.

To be fair, that happens where I work aswell for minor injuries. And I work at another multinational company.

Happens in a lot of places.

All injuries in the workplace are serious. Real companies recognize the importance of this and report all incidents accordingly.

Not reporting injuries is shady and I'd be wary of any company that engages in such a practice formally or informally.

did you only read the first tweet

No.

Nothing there is presented in a manner that suggests it's not easily been twisted by a reporter?

And despite what Eboue would like to infer, I'm not taking a side. I know him and his company are shit and know it's very possible that it's word for word true. Still not much weight to it though.

this is just the latest in a long line of whistleblowers saying that tesla is a sociopathic company that treats people like they're cattle to the slaughter, not a journalist quoting anonymous sources that tells us something new

Not reporting workplace injuries is a great way to get out of claiming on your workers comp.
