Elon Musk | Doer of things on X and sad little man

Sounds like he doesn't want companies to be free to advertise with whomever they wish.

Destroying free speech indeed.

He'll never admit Twitter is just not a great advertising platform and most companies benefit more from simply advertising on Facebook and Google. And now most are exploring TikTok > Twitter anyway.

I'm starting to feel fairly confident that this is going to go horribly wrong and Musk's meltdown is going to be absolutely glorious. Hope I'm not wrong.

Regardless of how many or what percentage you can afford to lose from a work force, there is no way you can work out in the space of a few days who is and isn't important. That's before you get to the legal amd moral implications which will be extremely damaging guven twitter is literally a public user system.

This'll just be the slow death of twitter and whatever plans Musk has for it beyond that (if that isn't the plan anyway) won't get far. Before long he'll be trying to file a lawsuit against whoever sets up whatever the alternative to twitter ends up being.
I think it usually works by asking managers to fire the x% least performing workers. Some company (e.g., Netflix) do this on consistent basis.

The problem here is that it looks that nothing is getting analyzed, and Musk is essentially acting like this is a role-playing game. From $20 for blue tick, to $8 after Stephen King's tweet, to public figures will have another secondary tick, to potentially needing to subscribe for watching videos etc. While these might be good for Twitter (or not), they definitely need a market research. But so far it looks like a system design interview of 'monetize better Twitter'.

The veil has fallen faster than expected.

what hes really trying to say is , due to being a massive knob head advertisers that are beholden to free market wont go anywhere near his toxicity because actions have consequences.

What he really is saying is like "truth social" you cant just have a wild wild west of filth as mainstream companies wont want to be associated with your brand due to massive back lash it will cause them and their bottom dollar thus he now has to find other ways to con people into giving him money as even though he is the "richest " man in the world he actually cant afford to buy twitter and will be beholden to banks and the Sauidis to get twitter in the black.

What hes actually portraying is that hes up shits creek without a paddle and hes looking for everyone to bail him out due to his trolling causing him to pay 34 million more for twitter than he should have making this possibly the worst deal ever possibly conceived in humanity

So the grand plan was buy twitter, sack 50% of staff = profit?

its a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him.

IANAL and not sure about California law but I've been let go on a couple of occasions and from what I recall the company can just pay their way out of that notice period requirement.

That being said in this situation I doubt Musk would be willing to add the extra expense to his take over.

All the talk of employees only getting one week salary is fake news. Been confirmed that at minimum employees are getting 2 months salary till Jan 4 if they don't get another job in that period. If they sign some kind of severance letter then get one month extra on top of that. Unconfirmed reports that even Feb 1 stock vest will be honoured in that case.

Depends on how mass layoffs are happening. If it is complete wipe out of teams or orgs then it will be indiscriminate firing irrespective of success or time in the company. For example per Indian news, every single person in Indian marketing team has been laid off at the Indian centre. But for teams losing a portion of people it comes down to stack ranking of employees by the manager which then flows upwards to VPs etc.

Thank you for sharing I guess, but is this really a current event?

People finding out they're sacked when they are unable to sign into their work email accounts, as the password has been changed - disgusting. Also people saying they were online on the work site when everything suddenly disappeared. They didn't need to wait for an email to their personal accounts as they already realised they were one of the ones being laid off, it's such a shoddy way to treat workers who've done nothing wrong.

Musk told everyone to stay home today, he doesn't want to have to hire extra security to escort people out of buildings with their little box of belongings. Even their entry badges have been deactivated.

That's consistent with here, then. 8 weeks pay in lieu of notice.

I am very happy with his take over. It's an end to politically biased censorship on the platform. People will find him more centrist than they imagine. Plus the platform will actually have free speech and ban people for the right reasons. No longer for political whims

Will you post the video of Musk making you read that statement with a gun to your head?

This takeover has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with Musk playing real-life RPG, IMO. Nothing here looks like it has been researched.

To be fair, this is pretty standard. For example, Argo AI did this in June, when they were one of the coolest 'large startups' around. People saw that they had a 15 minute meeting with their manager in the calendar, and knew immediately what it was happening. 10% of the workforce was fired in a single day. (the entire company dissolved a week ago under Ford's pressure). So, it is no new for the tech sector.

Bear in mind, we are talking for highly qualified people who are earning 200-500k/year and would find quite easy good jobs, albeit a bit harder in the recession.

Highly qualified/paid workers also deserve labour rights, to be fair to them. But you're right that it's got nothing to do with Twitter itself.
Of course they do, but they are in a much better position than most people both financially, and also finding jobs easy. And as you said, it also does not have much to do with Twitter.

With regards to labour rights, it is a pretty much global phenomenon. For example, with Argo AI, the Munich office was severely impacted despite that Germany is one of the countries with the best labour rights. At the end, the company was bleeding money, so something had to be done.

NB: While something has to be done, it looks like a series of random moves, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the beginning of the end for Twitter.

Can't find the white text.

There is just no way Elon Musk has a reasonably sized penis.

I find it amazing that there are people out there who worship this bald cnut.
