There won't be a sufficient workforce to support the ageing population the way things are going. Governments are trying to plug the gap with immigration but there are social issues which we are seeing at the moment with that.

I imagine many people are put off by the cost of raising a child. People can scarcely save enough to buy a house. I think women being single is more complex as single isn't always single and we are in a time where women don't have to settle down with a man which is what Musky types have a problem with.

Birthrates are in part declining because younger generations can't afford to have children as all of the wealth is held by a small percentage of the population. If people like Elon Musk were taxed more and polices like a Universal Basic Income existed (something which Musk would be staunchly against), younger generations would be more likely to have children. Furthermore, the concept there has to be perpetual population (and economic) growth is absurd and part of why economies and the environment are straining under the weight of capitalism. If the population is naturally leveling off in Western societies, surely that is a good thing?

Yeah totally agree regarding the cost of housing and child care is making it near impossible to have a family. I'm sure Elon is looking at this with ill intnetions but there is certainly a major problem with lower birth rates.

I don't think it's the Boomer generation of old people you have to worry about. It's Gen X and Millennials who will be the ones to suffer having paid in to support Boomers and above in their old age and then receiving nothing in the way of state support.

Oh I agree I'm not a boomer, I'm the generation that is likely to face this issue when I get to retirement (if I get there), so it's partly selfish (but valid) reasons to be concerned about it.

That’s exactly it. And funnily enough, single women are happier than women in relationships (the opposite is true for men). The reason as to why birth rates are declining are because it’s extremely fecking expensive to have and raise children, and also because people don’t want to have children who will have to bear the full brunt of global warming. People like Musk don’t care about that; in fact, their actions are the reason as to why people aren’t having children.

I didn’t really watch it or look for the context but it’s insane how obviously that video is being used to try and manipulate people. Exactly. And this is by design. He wants far-right fake news to spread. He wants bigoted disinformation to be disseminated so that it muddies the waters. From what I've read, climate change is low on the list of concerns for people. It seems to be about housing costs, urbanization, increased access to contraception and not taking a career hit that becoming a mother could cause. But even those things seemingly don't explain everything because even with extra benefits (tried policy) it didn't increase the birth rate.

You usually have those performance appraisals with your direct linemanager, who ideally should know what you do and to an extent how you do it.

That means staff have to submit a one-page summary telling leadership their contributions to the company in order to get their stock.

Stock grants are predetermined things, you are given stock when hired, or as part of a performance review. This tweet seems to be saying that people aren't going to actually get what they've been promised without justifying it, that is not how things normally work at all. I could be misunderstanding, though.

I refuse to believe that. We are almost a century with the 40 hours a week. Since then we had major advances on automation in every sector and will exponentially be even more in the next 1-2 decades. These advances barely trickle down to the economic benefit of the average joe but the owners of the means of production. Is a matter of levelling de economy of the rich and superrich. Towards de middle/lower class. People should have more money and more free time at this point in detriment of the rich being way less rich. But of course, that would go against the hypercapitalism society that we are in
