Eljero Elia

Spammy fancies him

Dont really need him, but hes looked impressive.

Nice cameo, are there any dutch people here who can fill in the blanks?

I was impressed by him as well.

But at the time I thought about this, and thought that people would perhaps have been impressed with some of Shaun Wright Phillips's performances for England. When in actual fact he's a very inconsistent waste of space.

Elia looked good on the left wing and left footed wingers are in short supply, so he will attract plenty of interest.

Walcott pace + football ability = Elia

Podolski played well on the left also.

He seems to be right footed, but playing on the left more often.

I've heard about him before but this was the first time I've seen him play. He definitely impressed me with his ability.

Unfortunately we already have enough decent young wingers here at the moment so you could rule us out. But a team like Liverpool could really benefit from signing him. He looks like he could develop into the type of player they thought Ryan Babel would be.

Bloody hell, I fell asleep during half time of the Holland/Denmark game and slept all the way through the second half, seems like a missed out. :(

What impressed me most was that he didn't just run into blind alleys like Ronaldo and Nani in the beginning.

He doesn't just selfishly try to get a wonder goal every time like Balotelli, Ben Arfa, or Quaresma.

He made the early pass when the opportunity was right, and he produced some dangerous crosses. He seemed to have an awareness of where his teammates were, while at the same time he had the ability to go past defenders at will.

Really impressive IMO.

Exactly. So young, and yet with such an end product already.

It's only my first game to see the lad, but he may be the breakout star of this World Cup if he keeps it up.

I was thinking more the next Seedorf than the next Pele.

Considering you've only watched him play 30 minutes, don't you think you should perhaps go a bit easy on the praise?

This is the worst thing about big international tournaments, the hype some players receive based on a single match is ridiculous.

Yeah he's not very Seedorf like. He's somewhere between Babel and Nani and he's good, seen him a bunch of times for the Netherlands. I wouldnt say he's anywhere close to being the breakout star of the world cup though.

With 4 years left on his contract and the world cup hike, Hamburg are going to want to hold out for the highest price possible, 16 mil seems like the base rate. I was impressed with him too, but I'm pretty sure Nani would have had an equal impact coming off the bench for them if not more.

going round the twitter and other sources that elia to liverpool is a goer.

Feck, I actually like this lad and rate him. I rated both affelay and elia and wasn't surprised to see affelay get picked up by barca but seeing elia over with the vermin will not make me a happy camper.

Hopefully he turns to shit now.

Good signing if they get him.

One question though, why the feck would he want to go to Liverpool?

Babel II, I am not a big fan.
You're actually spot on with your assessment, and his (= Elia's) attitude is quite shite too. Has done feck all in the Bundesliga in 2010 after being quiet good for about half a season.
Overrated, will fit in nicely at Anfield. Not much too worry about though.

He`s by far Hamburg`s best player and he would be a very good signing for Liverpool.
Nah, he really isn't mate, he isn't even the best winger at the club (that would be Jansen). HSV as a club are in turmoil with players throughout their squad who may have a bit of quality, but little to no mental strength, and Elia is the worst of all. Big time Charlie who thinks he should play for a top club after half a decent season - after all Van Nistelrooy, Petric, Jansen and Westermann are certainly better than him in their respective positions.

Funny how people labeled him as "one trick pony", "flop", "babel wannabe", when the lad is trusted in the "WORLD CUP" playing for his country, who turns out to be the runner up of this year's world cup.

I know we set a high standard on "wankable material" but some guys just think everyone else sucks if they're not Messi / Ronaldo.
