Edwin Van Der Sar

Great news!

Wishing him all the best in his recovery.

Great news. They must be one of the luckiest couples in the world. Both of them survived a brain hemorrhage.

Not gonna lie, was expecting the worst when they said he could only communicate by nodding his head. Nice to see him smiling and tweeting again.

Very lucky for them to both survive a brain haemorrhage but also very unlucky to both experience them in the first place!
Sure if you look at it like that. There's nothing to do about brain haemorrhages really but reacting to them is something that we can do and roughly 2 our of 3 die and that's in the US with easy access to ambulances and lots of hospitals. I imagine worldwide survival rate odds are worse.

Amazing to see, I have been thinking about this a lot actually, one of my favourite ever players. They look great

First reaction was: "I miss at least three CL cups and then I realised these are all the cups Ajax won with VDS as goalie or CEO. Man what a legend.

Why do goalkeepers never become managers? So much established authority. VDS could have been a monstrous bench presence.

Its only hearing ex-players talk about why he was so good, the reason I put him above Schmeichel and De Gea. Stam, Ferdinand, Vidic, Danny Blind etc. all talk about how he was a coach from the back. His instructions and organisation sounded out of this world. Its no wonder the club transformed with him coming in. His goal was to make sure he didnt have to make a save in the match, because his ability to spot danger was so good. And he's such a lovely guy.

It’s great to see him doing so well after his health scare. It’s crazy to think he was at Fulham when he was still a world class goalkeeper.

I guess there’s just a lot less of them. Nuno was a keeper though

One of the mysteries of football.

A certain Buffon at Juventus took his place as No.1 GK and his confidence was shot. He was about 34 years old. At that time it was considered old for a GK. He also made lots of mistakes during that time. He rejuvenated his career at Fulham.

One of the mysteries of football.
Not a mystery. Simply a case of him buying into a owners supposed vision, and a contract that matched it. Muhammed Al-Fayed bought them, they went through the leagues paying big wages to the likes of Lee Clark and Peter Beardsley and Kevin Keegan, then Al-Fayed set up a project that he was going to make Fulham the "Manchester United of the South." Of course, he failed miserably, but they paid him more than he was on a Juventus.

Juventus having Buffon, United just signed Barthez, Real brought through Casillas, Bayern had Kahn. There wasn't really many big clubs to play. Only really Arsenal, and believe it or not Al-Fayed paid more.
