i could see him having a casemiro or kroos type of role in the future like they play for madrid

Yeah, he is a bit of strange combination. He has all the attributes of an all action player, someone that you would see play like a box to box but he is best used as a CDM in charge of destroying opposing attacks and start the transition. I have been tempted to compare him to a young Vidal or at least the player that I seem to remember he was at Leverkusen.
Do you believe he warrants the hype?

Do you believe he warrants the hype?

I don't know how to answer that, is there a difference between hype and enthusiasm? He warrants people being enthusiastic because he has technical and mental tools that midfielders rarely have, if he manages to develop and be consistent in the next 5-6 years then he could be one of the best midfielders in the world but I don't think that he is there today, he just finished his second full season at professional level and he is still searching his game.

Vidal was more creative and had more of a goal threat, while I would say that Camavinga's passing is probably better compared to a young Vidal.

I wasn't thinking about him as a clone of Vidal but more as a midfielder who plays a relatively conservative role while also making it obvious that he has more tools than the role he is playing.

You didn't ask me, but I'd say he does. The thing with that is, that people have some absurd expectations of him. He is 18. Considering his age, his last season was actually decent, yet due to the hype surrounding him, people have called his last year average or garbage, which in my eyes isn't true.

What about Vidal during his Leverkusen days was conservative though? During the 2010/11 season he had 10 goals and 11 assists. Wasn't someone who kept it safe with his passing either. Edit: Not necessarily disagreeing, I just think they mostly shared their ball winning ability.

Vidal played 4 seasons at Leverkusen, you basically mentioned the outlier which is his last season. Before that he was a lot more conservative particularly early on, hence the mention of young vidal. :nono:

Again, in what way was he conservative though? Just because I mentioned his best season there, doesn't change that he didn't keep it safe with his passing back then. He was 24 during his last season, I'd still consider that young.

I said relatively conservative, it's not to be taken absolutely but as a comparison with the more adventurous all actions players. The 20-21 years old version was more conservative than the version he was at the end and with Juventus. During the later period he was more involved in the last third and from memory less responsible defensively, essentially used like the all action player that he was able to be. The Vidal that I remember during his early days at Leverkusen was a lot more involved in the defensive side of things, with relatively high amount of interceptions and defensive responsibilities.

You and I have different definitions of conservative then. I don''t remember him being conservative for Leverkusen or Juventus. Looking at his stats from those days, I wouldn't call those conservative either.

Back on topic. If we were to sign only one midfielder this summer, as much as I would love Camavinga here, I don't think he is the right type of player.

Not sure if this means much - but I was listening to the Stratford Paddock channel, where they were discussing about Romano’s Varna’s tweet - they said Romano commented (it was live) and he said Camavinga was next.

He'd be our no.6. Won't be many excuses then.

He is doing a stream on Twitch in about 40min .. Maybe we will learn more on this

sell Pogba and one other then bring in Camavinga and Saul.....fuking hell that would be a hell of a window

You'd think our existing French agents along with our newest French agent could sway him to come to United but I have my doubts about Pogba and Martial giving glaring reviews of life at United. Just a feeling, that's all.

Romano didn’t mean that anything has progressed with Camavinga. It was just excitement on his behalf.

I know it’s been mentioned that he’s very one footed but even when he dribbles…he never uses his right foot it’s always outside of his left. Are there other examples of top central midfielders who are that one footed?

Bernardo springs to mind, David Silva as well. Hagi, Ozil, our own Robbo. Players do develop the use of their weaker foot though for the most part it just remains a swinger

I don't know how one footed he really is but surely that shouldn't be a concern. if he made it all the way here, can use his outside of the foot too then. ROsicky for one avoided using left foot and he was glorious with the outside of his foot. Many of the players can use it to their strength too, it is not a handicap. WHen Valencia wanted to put in a cross with his left it was a good cross. just stronger and more confident with the other. Holding up ball comes up as one of the obvious strengths with that "one feooted handicap"

Hello. I'm a newcomer here, just moved out from Varane. Nice to meet you all. x

Who told you that?

I would only think it because I'm sure most of the usual Utd journos said a little while back that anyone else signed outside of Sancho & Varane such as Trippier/DM is very much dependent on sales

Thank you! Yeah sounds good. Although we could do with a more "Matic" type player that dictates the tempo too.

Could do with both types of players but certainly can't afford that this summer so would have to choose one

Well look how butthurt people get about Pogba and how they’ve turned on him largely because he’s talked up Madrid once or twice and his agent does the same.

‘Apparently’ this kid is doing that, or his agent has, before he’s even established himself at a top club in a decent league.

Maybe he hasn’t done that but it’s certainly been the narrative so far in most articles. So, you should get the drift of my point.

Yet again with the defensiveness, relax Eduardo’s Dad.

Haha I am not the one with RUck in my username ;) I dont even want to get into a Pogba debate, but suffice to say I think it is a lot more than that which makes him devisive.

He is represented by an ENglish agent that I havent seen be one to really go down the rumour mill route with his clients in the past. Of course he may have put stuff out, but it coudl be his club or just the press jumping on the fact we have spoken to his party and not signed him straight away.

My point simply is, there is nothing concrete at all so far regarding Camavinga and what is going to happen with him. I dont see how it is a problem a player saying they are flattered and interested in Madrid, they are after all arguably the biggest side in the world and we have had it with lots of playes before, Ronaldo being one for example.

But yes defending Camavinga, your slating an 18year old purely for the fact he has had a dip in form ovr the season...he is 18, Greenwood had a similar season here overall and also slating him for being a big time charlie pretty much when in interviews he has even admitted his second season was dissapointing and at no point did he say he wanted to go to Madrid....is unfair yes

He reminds me of Davids in his early years. Lets face it, if he goes on to be half the player of either of those two, that is a great signing. I think he is fully capable of both roles and could be great in a double pivot or a 4-3-3 which is also important

Yeah I get it, perhaps he hasn't said he wants Madrid, but that's been the narrative from the start, like a million other posters have been eluding to it. Let's see what happens.

I wasn't slating him, if anything it was a dig at our fans who get super sensitive about players talking up other clubs. God this was long winded.

Fair enough. For me he was along with Grealish the perfect signings for us LAST summer. We missed the boat on Grealish and tbh I didnt think we had a huge chance of signing Camavinga as I thought all the big sides would be in for him and its not even about preferance of the player....wehn Madrid or Barcelona come in for a player, they usually win the race...so of course with the financial situations I think our chances are far greater this summer. Sancho and Varane is obviously a very good window, whether its Camavinga or not and whether Pogba stays or not.....we definately need a quality defensive midfielder and regardless of age, Camavinga is certainly in that catergory for me

Varane is done and has now lost it’s muppet allure. This is the next venture…

During Stretford Paddock's live video about Varane signing, Romano made a cheeky "Camavinga" comment. It's happening!!
*Ok, its my inner muppet talking and the inner muppet won't like to discuss sports journalism here in regards to Romano

Suppose I may as well set up camp in here now, we surely can't pull off this one too, right?

If we sell Pogba and replace him with Camavinga(and get Trippier too while you're at it), it would be the perfect summer.
