Edinson Cavani

Rodriguez was great before the horrible injury and he's only coming back now and starts firing again...

Sure some of them has been hit in the PL, but Cavani doesnt strike me as a player who would really thrive here.. Someone like Zlatan has some strength and technical ability on him
Payet is technically brilliant player, same goes for Mahrez.
Kante has incredible stamina and workrate
...just to name few who are success here but you could find many more for sure

Cavani doesnt have any of that and that's why I think he would struggle, he would be on Charlie Austin level, just a pure finisher, great player to the box

Cavani does have good stamina and workrate? sure not on a Kante level but Cavani workrate is pretty good. The whole Cavani being overrated comments just underrate him now. His movement is world class, his finishing isn't but he would score goals wherever he went.

To say he would be on a Jay Rodriguez or Charlie Austin level is ridiculous.

I dont care about his record, he's overrated and would struggle in the PL, he isn't better than say Jay Rodriguez, playing in a shit league for the best team in the country will always help him get good numbers

Mental.

Sure, he could be more clinical, but his movement is exceptional and you won't find a forward more willing to roll up his sleeves and work hard for the team.

Bizarre stat: after only playing 8 games in 12 rounds (suspended for 4) he is both the top scorer in South American qualifiers and the Uruguayan player with most headed clearances from set pieces (in a side with Godin in it).

Charlie Austin my arse.

Surreal the hatred that some people have for Cavani.

Ok, he may not be the best finisher in the world, but a guy that was always amongst the best scorers on Serie A for Palermo and Napoli, then ok was not the main striker when playing alongside Ibra, but with good numbers, in his first season as the main striker is the best or second best scorer in Ligue 1, not to mention his performances for Uruguay in World Cups, Copa América and South American Qualifiers.

Does anybody here really believe that Jay Rodriguez or Charlie Austin would ever play in their life for Uruguay?

Respect for all divergent opinions but one day we will listen that he could not play for Celtic or Rangers, somehow he would struggle in Scotland, maybe the weather, the rain or the mountains who knows.

One thing is for sure, if Cavani was Portuguese I would like to have him on the National Team.

Instead of Eder? You must be crazy! ;)

Ah man, of course, there is no argument against that, but talking seriously, Cavani is a good player, I would say that he is not the best finisher in the world, but certainly nothing to do with Jay Rodriguez or Charlie Austin, ok they are better than the Almighty Éder, but...

Cavani is a very good player IMHO. There is some stupid underrating going on in this thread. Though it wouldn't surprise me to see him miss chances against Barca in the CL

he's just not very good, he's like poor man's Falcao

Wouldn't take him over Troy Deeney either. Heskey would also score 200 goals for Napoli and PSG if they created 7000 chances for him, look at Higuain who is just really average player and Juventus paid 60m for him... that's fecking ridiculous but I guess it's just the general idea of ppl here overrating players from south america, players with good hair etc..

some highly rated players from the past failed here too and became average like Soldado, Krkic, Llorente..

He has incredible movement and outstanding physical qualities - pace, strength, leap, stamina and work rate too.

Underrated on this forum. Ostin and Deeney, ffs

He actually had great finishing at napoli, and early for PSG too. Guess staying so long in Ibra's shadow did a number on his confidence

It was only when replying that I noticed it was always the same buffoon.

Straight to ignore.
Yeah, but still, almost every post on redcafe regarding Cavani in the last few years begins with "overrated", and at some point you have to wonder

People seem to have never forgotten his misses over the last few years. 260 career goals in 400+ games whilst playing 2nd fiddle to Zlatan for three years is a great record.

Bojan failed in Italy twice and the Dutch league too so what the feck you talking about?

You're clearly a moron though. First person to go on my ignore list on any forum I've ever used

And had to be deployed out wide too.

He's better than any striker in the Premier League. Underrated on here for some odd reason.

fine whatever, no need to argue with a fool like you, although it was fun to some point

Cavani has flaws but he works so hard and his movements are so good that he always delivers when you look at the entirety of a season. Every team and every manager would like him.

Very underrated player. His goal scoring record is pretty exceptional and he has amazing workrate. Funny that everyone on here appreciates Welbecks workrste despite his defecencies but ignore it when it comes to Cavani.

I can't deny I've witnessed him miss some sitters but he never stops working and still chipped in with plenty of goals even when played out wide. He might not be the easiest on the eye but he's a very effective player.

No he isn't.
Excellent rebuttal mate. Bravo.

PSG would snapp your hands off and rightly so if an exchange Cavani for Costa would be on the table, IMO.
He's a better player than Diego Costa. Costa's the slightly better finisher but everything else Cavani's better at.

Nah there are better strikers in the PL, and I'm sure PSG fans would take a few of them over him, but he's still a good player and you're right, somewhat underrated.
When you say "strikers" how many are you talking about? I can only think of one I'd take instead of Cavani.

Cavani is not a better player than Costa. I'd take Ibra over him for United. I'd take Firmino over him as a false 9.

I agree that he does get underrated for his general play but lets not twist the narrative to now say he is an elite striker and one of the world's best. He's a world away from guys like Suarez, Lewa, Aguero or Aubameyang.. or even Benzema.

He's an average player who works hard and has selfless movement of the ball (an area in which he is indeed exceptional).

I don't get why everyone is becoming so apologetic over his finishing.. he has had some shameful finishes in some key games for PSG. Last time I checked, finishing was pretty high on the attributes needed to be considered a top striker.

I get that his movement can enhance the overall fluidity of a side and make them a more potent threat, but last time I checked, PSG aren't a greater side once Zlatan left. If we had Cavani up top, I think we'd be even more off the pace than what we are now.

It's a strange case with Cavani.Never rated him to lead the line for a top team(although at some point at Napoli looked pretty good). He's probably the best defensive striker these days(if there is a term like that :D). He has fantastic movement, works his socks off(one of the best work rate I've seen from a striker), but when he has to put the ball in the net - oh my. Literally crap every single time I've seen him. Then I look at the news/stats and he bags a hattrick the other day.

There are games that he'll score a brace and miss another 5 easy chances. Frustrating player to say at least. A bit like Higuain case - will score loads, miss some easy chances, then fail in some big games, put three past a relegation fodder in the weekend, some solid display in the national team (goals/assist) then rinse and repeat.

Was pretty crap last year in CL from what I can recall, but this year has been solid I think.

I think Costa, Aguero and Ibra are definitely better than him. Kane is also a good shout, better finisher than Cavani. Cavani's main strength is his movement, which is probably the best of any striker, but his finishing lets him down too often, which is one of the main things for a striker.

The guy is likely to score more than 50-60 goals this season. Do you expect him to score 100 goals?

I think those who hate him probably prefer effeminate players :wenger:

It was a nightmare for him to play on the wing because his technical skills are limited. :nervous:

1. Yeah. Surreal.
2. Any NT coach would be extremely happy to get him. Better than all your recent CF: eder, pauleta, nuno gomes...

He has incredible movement and outstanding physical qualities - pace, strength, leap, stamina and work rate too.

This. A warrior on the pitch

I think Cavani's movement and pace of movement is the best in the world alongside that of Suarez. It's probably part of the reason he has poor finishing, he's moving so fast when he gets on the end of chances.

Misses so many chances, but gets so many because his movement isn't fantastic. Wouldn't want him up top in a tight game, though.

He would be a great fit in the current Utd team. He'll finish the chances we'll create for him whilst opening LOADS of space for the rest of the team. Love Ibra but sometimes, we just need a focal point rather than a play making no 9.
