Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

If anyone watched the football at the weekend you’ll have seen Son and Ollie Watkins rip the defence apart with speed and legs, that’s what you need to compete today in the premier league.
It’s a much different league today than it was years ago, the thought of bringing a 33 year old poacher in and expecting a huge goal return is crazy. We don’t even create many chances in games, who’s going to provide the assists for him?
How’s he going to get in behind a high line or keep up a hard press for long periods of time?
We needed a young fast forward with plenty of legs and good directness towards goal Son, Watkins, Vardy, Wilson, Ings, Richarlison, Salah, Jimenez all a common theme in their play and it works for premier league.
Whoever sanctioned this deal knows nothing about football or the modern game.

100% right!

But Jimenez isn't fast though.

Atleast wait and watch him play. Ibra did very well for his age. Rvp was fantastic for the club. He is still primarily brought in as a backup striker to Martial who can hold the ball and apparently score headers. Even Giroud has performed well for chelsea.

Jimenez isn’t fast. Nor are Abraham, Wood, Giroud, Deeney and others who scored a fair amount just last season.

Son and Watkins aren’t backup players and would cost huge money

We don’t need a huge goal return, we need a backup.

We already have 3 young fast forwards in Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood. Why the feck would we need another identical player to do the exact same thing as them and offer nothing new?

Pace, pace, pace, talk about knowing football yet your entire knowledge is basically a FIFA player

You forgot Daniel James, boy's got legs!

Jimenez is a lot more similar to Cavani than he is the others on the list. Wilson is hardly like the rest either.

Struggling to find any actual update on this potential signing. Any news/progress on this?

Medical done, signing/announcement this afternoon apparently. 2 year deal with a clause that club/player can break it after 1 year.

Even through the dark Moyes moments, I think this is the most disappointed I have ever been with the club.

All the talk about a cultural reset and buying the right type of player and we go and sign fecking Cavani. Ole should block the transfer to make a point or just walk.

Great thanks, just noticed those new tweets dropping in.

Can't say I'm over the moon with this. He is a grafter though, with a point to prove hopefully.

If he can recapture the movement he had in the final third for us then hopefully Bruno can put some on a plate for him. Here's hoping.

A cultural reset which included getting an Ighalo?

Ole has been asking for a new striker for ages to offer something else, he’s getting one. Why one earth would he walk away from something he’s been begging for?

I don't think signing Cavani overwrites the general idea that we want young hungry players. It's fine to add experience on free transfers.

My problem is his fitness issues and whether they can be solved.

Totally agree with the sentiment. However all we are doing here is replacing Ighalo's place within the squad for rotation when Odion leaves in January.

is it to cover for when Ighalo leaves? Not a bad signing if that's the plan?

AT LEAST they included a clause to break up his contract after a year if he fails to perform. That's some progress I suppose...

It's so strange to me how people invent this kind of headcanon about how this player must be an "Ed signing" or that player must have been an "Ole signing". Let alone somehow being so mad about it that he should walk.

As though the value of a quality backup striker with great movement who provides something different to the usual first XI wouldn't be recognised by Ole Gunnar fecking Solskjaer.

I think most of us thought Ighalo was acceptable because he was a stop gap and clearly a representation of the board's uselessness/reluctance to spend on a striker. This is a permanent transfer for a 33 year old who is 100% coming here for solely for the money and getting a bumper salary - Ighalo absolutely adores United and was a loan.

He'll get a 5 year contract if he scores 5 goals by christmas

Cavani will do well in a team that creates chances. Big crosses in the box, firing low hard balls across goal etc.. Martial isn't that player.

I personally think cavani could do well here.

On any other day I would be excited about this signing. But after yesterday he's coming into a team that will provide him with zero service, so have zero feelings about this one.

I don't know if you have watched Cavani, but he isn't a Falcao type of striker, he's actually a lot more like Vardy, not as fast, but fast enough, and one of the most impressive forward I have watched in real life.
The thing with Cavani, is that most of his work goes unnoticed when you only watch him on TV. He constantly makes great runs, has an amazing workrate to press, compensate other players movements, and create space. the only aspect of his game that lets him down is his finishing when he has to take more than one touch.
There are obvious concerns about his age and the fact that he hasn't played in 8 months, but if you get the Cavani I have seen in 2017/2018, I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised. PSG fans loved him for a reason.

Cavani squanders a lot of chances. He’s not the type of player that will score one in two. His biggest asset is movement and the ability to create space for himself.

He isn’t also the type of striker that would lead the line at least at PSG. Whilst Ibra was injured he was given the chance at a much more attacking and free flowing team and he disappointed when he was much closer to his prime.

We don’t create many chances and he has become a perennial sick note. Off his peak and last year was far from what you can call explosive in his first step. Didn’t play competitive game since March.

150k per week apparently. Would fit right in on the treatment table whilst he collects that pay check.

We are a laughing stock signing this guy. Free agent since the 1st July and we get him on transfer deadline day.

What must that do for a players confidence, he is hardly going to walk in the dressing room and Ole tells him he was his no.1 target.

Cavani is also a stop gap due to not having funds for an expensive striker nor the actual need for one.

A permanent transfer for the same period length of Ighalo.

100% coming for the money based on what? He only cares about the money but Ighalo who plays in China doesn’t care about money? Is Ighalo playing for free? No, his deal is of a similar amount to Cavani’s.

Ighalo is absolutely a shit footballer. “Adoring” the club offers no valueHis loan is the same length of Cavani’s contract. Loan or free transfer is irrelevant.

Nor is any of that relevant to what Ole wants or you trying to project your opinion onto Ole when he obviously doesn’t agree.

Well he's screwed here then..

Can Luke Shaw cross properly? No.
Can AWB cross properly? No.
Can Daniel James cross properly? No.
Can Rashy cross properly? Once in a while.
