Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

Dont believe this rumour whatsoever. Its just the exact opposite of the way Ole was talking of the club heading.

Utter BS.

Because right now, he is just looking for a big payday...It was Atleti ..then Benfica ..then.... then...."who can pay me the most?!"
He would have probably signed for Newcastle, had that deal gone through! Like any mercenary would.

Do you think Martial and DDG play for us out of love?

I welcome Jotic loan. Make him happy and we have chance to persuade him to push for permanent move.

No thanks to Cavani.

This is the classic wacky madness we get last min isn't it.Would be a bizarre one.

I think Cavani is absolute class personally. Probably the most under rated of the star strikers in world football......but 33years old and with perhaps his main strength being in the air on crosses when we barely have a wide player can cross the ball either on the wing or in defence.....wrong fit for me

Surely there are better options.

Forgetting his age and maybe past his peak.....there are not many better strikers in world football, how can you make that comment? Although I am also not for signing him for certain reasons, he would be one of the best 5strikers in the premiership without doubt for me

Better than Kane, Aubameyang. Vardy, Martial, Aguero? You can say that Aguero is injury prone now, but then so is Cavani.

If you then include the likes of Salah and Mane. Son, even Rashford as players who are not out and out strikers, then I definitely don’t think so.

Was clearly an excellent striker. But I wouldn’t have any confidence that he could be an effective starter for a PL team now.

This would shambolic. We need a cb and a right winger. Yet what do we do? Sign a 34 year old striker. :wenger:

Pay as you play contract or something to that effect might be good. 1 year contract to see how it goes, then possibly extend it.

The good thing is he has no current contract so United or anyone get a free slate to negotiate.

Dont necessarily see it as a bad move. Ighalo is off in two months and by the looks of it Ole isnt trusting him too much. He's going to be in decent nick after being a pretty easy league. Offers something a bit different and would be good for Greenwood and Rashford to have a mentor figure like Zlatan. 18 month contract heavily weighted towards appearances, goals and league position would be ok

Yea ok let me try again. For longer term needs, is there no one better?

Giroud is 34 and still playing for Chelsea. He starts today. What's wrong being 34 year old? Nowadays the players that look after themselves can play into their 30s easily. Suarez (33 same age as Cavani) is still playing for atlético madrid just scored 2 goals and 1 asist in 1 game as substitute.

Who said we aren’t signing a RW? If he’s still playing at a high level who gives a feck about age if it’s for 1 or 2 years as a back up?

Do not need and do not want.

Only an elite centre forward or centre forward prospect should oust Martial now.

Nobody other than Haaland, Sancho, Fati, Upamecano or whoever golden boy of the year are good enough for Man Utd.

Edit
It should be easy to be a scout for Man Utd
FC - Haaland
RW - Sancho
LW - Fati
AM - Odegaard
CM - Frenkie de Jong
DC - Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt
LB - Alphonso davies
RB - Trent Alexander-Arnold

It is an easy job to do. Takefusa Kubo I heard is good too.

Be happy on a 1 deal with option for second.

Martial needs to feel pressure for his spot. With no fee involved its worth a punt.

Would you class Jovic as prospect

I can't say I ever thought of him having a very high ceiling potential wise.

He's quite strong and a decent finisher but for a player his age he doesn't even look like he's in great shape physically.

I'd have spunked our money on Calvert Lewin last year or Jimenez this summer. One proven Premier League striker and one serious prospect who also brings mobility and an aerial threat.

We've needed that kinda threat before and after Ibra. Those two options are the safest bet for me but Woodward knows better....

I'd probably only disagree with Odergaard and we did try and sign Trent previously but he only had eyes for Liverpool. I'm happy with VdB over Odergaard.

I also like Calvert Lewin or Jimenez as the Haaland alternative.

Would we not class Cavani as an elite centre forward? Or is it just because he is supposedly past it ?

same reason why it is "do not need and do not want" for both James or Bale.

Odegaard just broke into Real Madrid first team this season, of course he is not ready for the next step.

I just thought we were going away from signing mercenaries past their peak. Would be disappointing for me seeing as there's so much talent in the game.

Our club should do better than this.

I wasn't saying we should sign him, I was saying he surely is an elite centre forward.

I wouldn't be averse to the deal if short contract, happy to come off the bench and not massive wages and doesn't impact other signings. Those are some big ifs though.

I wonder who they are and if they are available in the market. Sancho was available before August 10th i remembered.

My problem with Alexis Sanchez was not that he was old or past it -

It was simply the fact that we didnt need him. We were loaded at LW and everyone expected him to play some games at RW before his arrival but you could see it in Mourinho's eyes that he used that transfer to reduce the game time of Rashford & Martial.

Players like Cavani or even Bale prior to his spurs move who are moved on loans or short term contracts are different because they fill an obvious gap in our squad. Even if they are not as good as they used to be; they are able to fill the gap in our squad temporarily to a standard that can be accepted at Manchester United.

We cant be loaning Ighalo and be hesitant on loaning players like Cavani if they are available. They do the same role but to a different standard.

Cavani lost his place to Icardi in PSG, he is 33 year old and he is a free agent that so far can't find a club. So it makes him a mercenary , pass it, over the peak(which i agreed) automatically. Then he will fall into the same "do not need and do not want" category of Bale and James(both lost their place in real madrid, can't find clubs, over age 28) before summer.

Edit
Why insist happy to come off the bench? If he plays better than martial in training, will you insist starting martial because it will hinder his growth? Why not massive wages? what is massive? is 200k/week for rashford massive? does rashford even achieve even 1/10th what Cavani did so far? I am lost.

Sounds like a very Woodward-esque signing.

Well is he now at his age, who knows. But over the last years, yes he is a better out an out striker than Martial for sure, rose tinted glasses, Martial has been good for one season. Your second sentence, none of them are strikers
