It's awful logic, because if someone with identical heritage to tekashi69 was playing professional football in the premier League and started using the N word frequently on social media, theyd get called our for it and banned, would they not?

Your example isn't the context at all.

I'm not saying cavani is racist or even what he said was racist. I'm simply saying a lot more wouldn't be as lenient if he weren't a united player.

This is looked at as a purely sporting person trying to stop other teams having their players and stuff so their club is left in a disadvantage - it's got hardly anything whatsoever for doing something racist.

If this happened with anyone else then sure maybe there might be dicks trying to get that sporting agenda driven but no one would be butt hurt if it was rejected.

Don't necessarily disagree with this at all. I do think there'd be a a few butt hurt if it got rejected though.

No I wouldn't because I am black, speak Spanish and respect other languages. Shall we ban all foreign people from using their vocabary because the English might get upset? What words in Spanish to his Uruguayan mates is he allowed to say now? Shall we compile a list of banned Spanish words?

He is a United striker in the mould that Fergie would have loved. He seems to be very clinical, for some reason I have always thought he is very wasteful with chances.

No but players should be aware of how things can be perceived, plus he'd be more than familiar to what went on with that pool bellend. All players should know whatever the put on social media will be harshly scrutinised, that's just how things are now.

He's speaking his native language to a fellow countryman, should be nothing to do with the snowflakes over here.

Would you like to supply him with a list of what Spanish words he can and cannot use whilst he's in this country, seeing as you seem to be so upset with him using a word you don't like the sound of.

Therein lies the problem, you know what racism truly is. You have to be white to get offended by something that amounts to the square root of feck all.

Good to see he has deleted it and I'm sure he will get better advise than Suarez who just went deeper and deeper into a rabbit hole.

He is probably baffled though and it all puts a very negative end to a day in which he should have been ecstatic and built on that over the next few days.

He gets himself more chances so is bound to waste more.

From over ten years watching him I'd say the key is him acting on instinct or not. His instinctive finishing under pressure is exceptional, but give him time and options and it turns into a 50-50. The upside is the Premiership is likely to produce more of the former, not the latter.

I understand different words in context and culture but that word in particular has history in English football and at United in particular.

We wanted the book throwing at Suarez when he used the term towards Evra but now United fans are defending it.

So I'm pretty sure this is untrue. Suarez said "negro" and not "negrito" as far as I remember. His camp tried to spin it to be "negrito" and it has evidently worked.

Why do you think it is OK to be called a black friend, by a white person? Does the same white person call his other friends, his white/Asian friends, directly when talking to them?

Unfortunately this is the reason why race based words are deemed acceptable in todays culture - or I'll be specific to you, why white people think they can call their friends "my little black friend" or "my black friend" when referring to you directly.

Etymology, race and social studies 101 here. Y'all won't get it until you read books, or even just articles by people who have studied this.

Something that is culturally existent shouldn't remove the fact that in todays British/Premier League culture referring to race terminology shouldn't be accepted. Granted the face Cavani removed his post, he just needs to be educated about how it can be perceived and why it is deemed negative to refer to anyone just based on their race (especially when you know them).

I don't think this is cause for a ban, not at all. But the issue is not Cavani's, it's with white South America's belief that using this term is a friendly thing. Don't refer to my race full stop

Well you're entitled to your opinion but I can't say I agree when you look at the respective contexts.

One being someone saying "I kicked you because you're black" to an opponent he had kicked. The other is someone thanking a presumed friend.

I agree and understand that there is context to it all. I am NOT saying that Cavani is as bad as Suarez in any way.

What I am saying is that Cavani should have known better if he made the post and as United fans, we can’t be complaining about language used towards our own players and then defend our own player for using similar terms.

Nor can Cavani expect to not get in trouble for it.

In this day and age, whether you think it is right or wrong, you simply have to think about what you are putting out to the world. And that is what social media is, the entire world

Suarez used "negro", and it was in a heated rivalry and when he was kicking Evra.

Context matters and also the fact that it was a completely different word. Use your brain as to why and how the two situations are completely different.

No you're absolutely right. Even Suarez admitted that he called Evra negro in his autobiography. Our fans are genuinely thick that they got influenced by Liverpool's PR blitz.

The current affairs in this world continue to blow my mind. How this absolute non-story is turning into a forest fire is just beyond me. :wenger:

People seem to have lost the plot and no rational thinking can be put into a situation, it's all about that emotional "distress" and reactions without putting context into things.

All these years, with so many articles, FA report available for download and still people don't know what word was used and somehow believe the Liverpool cover up job. They leaked the other word to the press and tried to change the whole thing.

Another thing is , only recently I have seen Carragher and the likes of 'Hendo' come forward and say how stupid it was for them to print T-shirts in support of Suarez. Does it take this long for the club and it's associates to admit it was a massive mistake?

I wish Cavani didn't post it. When we should be celebrating a cracking performance from him, here we are. Hope he learns from this.

There doesn't seem to be any nuance within the rules for the people who are pointing out it's a term of endearment etc in Spanish.

How insensitive of the FA for not accommodating nuances from other cultures. They have to be fined for that.
