This window has been a total embarrassment - as good as Cavani once was, I'm sorry, he's 33 so his best days are long gone, he may well add something to our squad but we're Manchester United FFS!!!!! We should not be scraping the barrel for 33yr olds as a stop gap looking for one last payday that no other club has come in for despite being available on a free all summer? Our back 4 is in such disarray that, whatever four we play, they look like they're in the Bermuda fecking triangle. We knew BVB's stance on Sancho so we should have left that well alone back in July, terminated Jones and Rojo's contracts like we did with Sanchez and spent the summer concentrating on building a solid back 4. But here we are, yet again, a failed window controlled by an incompetent board whose knowledge of football you could write on a postage stamp!!!

How so? We've now got Rashford, Martial and Greenwood instilled as our first choice front line. Now as backup for Martial we have Cavani. Ok, he's 33 and hasn't played regularly since March, but he's as good a striker as we could hope for sitting on the bench. And if he plays so well that he starts claiming a starting spot then it's win / win. We now have proper cover for the wide slots too. Traore looks exciting if raw, we also have James (ok, not amazing, but can do a job on the left when needed) and we now have Pellistri. That will ensure the times we have Mata and Lingard plugging that RW gap are kept to a bare minimum or even better, erased.
We now have another top drawer, technically gifted Midfielder to cover for when Pogba or Bruno need resting, or in my view, gradually get Pogab out of the first 11 until he either gets his shit together or gets sold.
We've now got another LB, another gaping hole plugged. From what I've seen of Telles, he'll have Shaw on the bench in weeks and we'll actually see some decent attacking play on the left.
You may be right there, it certainly feels that way, but I can't help but feel the signings we've made are a sensible gamble with what money we had available. Remember, we were already told Bruno came out of this summers budget and we haven't moved a lot of players out either.

If Ole goes, and he may, whatever manager comes in will have a decent squad to work with in my view. And I agree, Ole really has to show what he can do now. I'm not convinced he's the right man, but nor am I convinced he's the wrong man either.

It'll take some time. Fortunately, he has the next 2 weeks to work on his fitness. Hopefully, by the 3rd or 4th week, we can start seeing glimpses of him via substitutions and u23 matches.

Excited to have him here, vital addition to the squad and hopefully he can impress here and the youngsters can learn from him.
Will take some time to get going, probably a month or so but I expect him to do really well this season after that. It won't last too long though so we shouldn't give him an extension like the mugs we are based on that

Let's just wait and see what he does. As others said he has always taken care of himself so it will just building up the match fitness.
That would be at least 29 goals this season. He scored 30 in the last two seasons combined and that was at PSG who absolutely dominate their own league.

?In fairness to him, in 55 appearences. Which when he's been stop start with injury really isn't too bad. The key will be getting him fit if it's possible.
Can't say I've seen him play for a long while. Liked what I've seen of him in the past and very much would have wanted him when he was younger. No idea where he is as a player now and have resorted to looking up his apperance/goals stats on Wikipedia as it's just about better than nothing. Age obviously a concern at this point.

This is giving me deja vu. We sold Ronaldo, and needed a top class RW. We signed Obertan/Tosic(two young players with potential) and got Michael Owen(aging former star striker with injury problems) and handed him the #7.

Some sense at last! Man City have Aguero 32 and yet he is still there, we need experience around the young players and between Cavani and Ighalo sharing this experience I would pick Cavani every day, not to belittle Ighalo but he didn't really impress nor even provided competition to the forwards and his contract end Jan 2021. Let's just face it, it's not like Rashford/Martial are world class strikers like Cavani is, not yet at least.
Though this signing reeks of last moment desperation, I am excited to see what he does. I think and hope his impact will be closer to Zlatan rather than Falcao.

He hasn't played a game in half a year, and he isn't signed as a starter. Expecting him to score 30 is optimistic to the point of delusion. The last Manchester United player to score 30 in a season was Robin van Persie.
I hope I'm wrong but i don't think it's going to work out all that well on the pitch. He's a good finisher but he's only ever played in second rate leagues and at 33 i can't see the step up to the Premier League being easy. His movement and finishing is going to have to be absolutely spot on and that's going to be a big ask after 7? months out and with a few injury niggles starting to appear.

Will someone tell the young spunks here on redcafe that 33 is not a fecking death Knell. If he has looked after himself (looks like he has) with modern training methods and diet there is no reason for this ageism! The experience and quality he has and the battering ram style we do not have will be a great addition to the squad. His hold up play and lay offs to players like Martial, Greenwood and Rashford could be fantastic. I'm excited to see it anyway.
It’s fun reading the overly optimistic posts now that we have actually signed him. Suddenly we forget his age, his obvious decline and injuries, lack of fitness and transition from a small league to a much more competitive one, going from a dominant team to a challenger..... focusing only on his exploits several years ago, like it’s a guarantee he will be as good as he was 3 years ago when all evidence drags us in the opposite direction.

We sold no one, but we were in the same position, that is we needed a top class winger. Since you know, the last RW we bought was Wilf Zaha.

I don't expect him to score 30, I hope he can make a decent contribute in rotation if he's fit and healthy, which is the big question.
Many will be surprised from his performances. He will give attacking variations for your team. He is also hard worker too. Have a good leap for headers.

If Greenwood, Diallo and Facundo can all learn from him on the training pitch it would be good. I'm sure he has something to offer and is an upgrade on Ighalo. But make no mistake, this was the club desperately trying to make a marquee signing because of lack of progress on Sancho or Dembele.
