A striker who thrives off good service, makes cameo appearances when we have been mostly in bad situations, and he's being written off? Christ, the patience is strong with a lot of folk
He doesn't deserve to be written off, but it's clear he doesn't suit our team or the way we play at all (not many do)

We need to change to a much more crossing style to get the best of him, but we rarely ever put a good ball in the box.

Shaws cross for Martial is the best one I can remember for a long time.

It was and is pretty obvious that this was always going to end in failure...
  1. 33 years old soon to be 34
  2. South American living in Manchester and having to adjust to the culture/weather
  3. Playing in the most intense, demanding league in world football
  4. Injury prone, also had to recover from COVID
  5. Big wages relative to output - £210K a week.
  6. Been living on a farm and admitted that he was about to retire
  7. Back up striker so will never be given a run of games to prove himself/get fit
The majority of us saw how this transfer would go from a mile off, unless you're Ed Woodward of course.

You didn’t watch our game v PSG?

He makes the run but no one spots him . He stays on the box and there isn't one decent cross. He is not Martial or Rashford kind of player .

Give him service and he will score.

Are we really writing him off already? Jesus, this place never ceases to astound me.

Yeah pretty much agree to this.

Factor in when he does come on we offer him no service whatsoever.

When we are chasing the game and playing more erratically than normal - you'll never see the best out of him.

Our supply from Midfield to Striker/Forwards is practically non-existent as well. From what i've seen, Cavani looks reasonably sharp and is making runs - but we arent supplying him. Dan James often looks to run in behind but we dont really play through balls. Weirdly, it's Cavani who will look worse because Scott McTom can only pass sideways. Footballs a funny game

please remind me, how many did we score from crosses against PSG?
You might want to read what you wrote one more time. You spesifically said the best cross, not the best goal from a cross. Telles whipped in some beautiful crosses in that game. Beckhamesque someone on here said.

Anyway, I’d agree we need to play to his strengths, which has been a glaring weakness for us since RvP(?). I think Cavani has something to offer, question is, do we have something to offer him? I’m thinking crosses, movement, making the smart choices in games etc.

RIght, well I was thinking of a cross that actually made us score rather than just crosses in general. Yes sure we've put a few nice ones in the past but rarely do we ever get crossing assists.

Even RVN would be a flop in this squad. You cant expect strikers to score if they aren't being fed balls near the box.

Correct. Issue is not with his qualities. Issues with Cavani is more how he suits our play and how poor the services are. Except Bruno, who seems out of form, no one can provide him good balls in spaces or by crossing.

33 year old guy who didnt played for 8 months...

People complaining about others writing him off is a bit ridiculous.

He wasn't brought in on a long term project.

Spot on. Rvp and Hargreaves were saying that too. He is making the runs but no one is passing to him.
SAF told Rooney and Scholes that if they didn't pass to RVP when he makes the runs he would drop them.

Can't describe how pleased I was when he put that in. My Cavani, get the feck in!

Hopefully first of many.

Nice goal.

he’s working on getting fitter. Will be a good asset. Not bad for a desperate buy that the manager didn’t even want:D

We paid ridiculous wages for him.

It's Edinson fecking Cavani. Why wouldn't he deserves that salary?

That's how you finish. Comfortably the most lethal finisher in our team.

Typical Cavani finish, nice to see. Also showed great workrate for the team when he came on.

He look about a million times more lively/interested/active then the last few games. Clearly getting his fitness up.

Good stuff.

He deserves a start at some point. Looks livelier than any of our other strikers.

Good finish and off the mark now, the rest of his game still needs to sharpen up.
