Eden Hazard | "It's time to enjoy life drinking beers"

When is the "3rd best player in the world" going to do something worth mentioning?

If you'd actually watched the games, you'd see that he's actually played really well the last couple of weeks. Always dangerous and vertical, getting back to his old dribbling ways. One can clearly see that he's back in form (just not manifested on the scoresheet) but now with his injury, it's clearly a setback,
.

He played very well yesterday again, but he picked an injury. Still too soon to know how serious it is.

Give him time. Luka Modric was once the ‘worst La Liga signing’ too. He’ll get there. Too talented not to.

You can tell when people don't watch games.

He was garbage for the first 10 games or so. But the past 3-4 games he has been among the best players on the pitch. Looked like the best version of Hazard. Physically in form as well. Lost some weight. Gained some speed. I must admit I did not watch much of Hazard before he moved to Madrid, but I am surprised how easily he goes past players. He is one of the main reason for Real resurgence recently. Our team looked like hopeless to playing beautiful football now. I actually look forward to our games. The games are no longer nerve wrecking painful affairs, but I actually enjoy watching my team again.

Hazard is going to be a big hit, I have no doubts longer(from what he has shown past 3-4 games). It's not about the goals or assists. I am sure that will come too, but you cannot base a performance just on goals/assists. Remember how good Iniesta was and did not have many assists/goals.

Aye, Hazard obviously has a different type of hunger compared to some elite players. :wenger:

It is something which many people will put on him as the reason for never reaching the status his talent could which is being among the top 3 players in the world. On the other hand, I think he wouldn't be near as fun to watch if he had a different personality.

It looks to me as both Hazard and Marcelo were back at the top again against PSG, and that they will have a lot of fun down in the left hand corner.

He was playing very much like he did at Chelsea against PSG. That is the Hazard we knew and feared.

As you say, he just glides passed people and acclerates so quickly over 10-15 yards he is almost impossible to stop with his great balance and agility. He has amazing control too, so you cannot stop him when he's in the mood.

It's very unlucky he got that injury just as he's hitting form. As you say he will never score 60 goals a season like Ronaldo, but he is the perfect wide playmaker.

Sometimes you just have to know yourself, don’t you?

I teach English as a foreign language just outside a major city. I make a decent wage in the countries terms, but I could make 2-3 times as much working in the bigger city two hours away.

I know myself though, and I know that I would be miserable with that commute and value leisure time and time with my family above the financial benefits and the various challenges.

Hazard was loved at Chelsea. A club legend, he could come back a bit tubby for pre season and fans would forgive him, because they just loved watching him play and he had such an enormous amount of good will. He never had big numbers, but fans at Chelsea saw his contribution and what a pleasure it was to watch him. He was at home.

An opportunity to go to Madrid at 28, last chance. Even at your peak, numbers weren’t your thing, and now you are going to basically replace one of the best players of all time, who had massive numbers and devastating success. He also rocked up with a 12 pack for preseason!

Even though naysayers claim that you won’t and that they know what they have got, you’re going to be asked to match that to a degree, as well as look pretty doing it. There are now way more demands in place and zero goodwill. This is a club who malign players who have won them Champions Leagues.

The fact that you come back overweight already says it all. There is nothing wrong in not really having the dedication to go beyond, and there is nothing wrong with being comfortable where you are to a degree, but I think he should have recognized this, known who he was as a person and stayed at Chelsea.

He could have ridden off into the sunset at 32, tubby, but content, safe in the knowledge he was one of the club’s biggest legends in their history. He could have gone straight into a money-spinning, waist-expanding stint at Inter Miami.

I hope an average Madrid stint won’t take the shine off one of the best players to watch on his day.

Its all about opinions my friend, and how you define world class at the end of the day. For me mentality comes into it not just natural talent which clearly Hazard has in abundance.

I meant the fact you say he has not had a world class season.

He has? Not in my mind he hasn't he has moments when he is world class sure but not a season for me sorry.
If being the best player of either the best or the second best league in the world does not make you world class, what does?
He had been Premier League's Player of the Season, PFA Player's Player of the Year in 2014/15.
He had been 2nd in Player's Player of the Year votes in 2013/14 and 2016/17; PFA Fans' Player of the Year in 2018/19.
He also finished 8th in 2 Ballon d'Or lists.
Won the Silver Ball of the 2018 World Cup.

Let's be clear, I'm not saying he's world class because of his honours, I trust my eyes, but I have no idea how you can say that he had never reached that level. One season aside, he had been incredibly consistent in this decade. 7th top scorer in the PL (85 goals), 2nd highest chances creator (595, behind only David Silva), the best dribbler (909 successful dribbles, by far ahead of the rest of the competition). In fact, he's the second most prolific dribbler of the decade after a certain Lionel Messi.

Ok maybe a little harsh on him but he's like Berbatov for me, who I loved by the way great to watch and a real entertainer while getting the job done. But do you ever feel he applied himself to the level he could have?

Yes I do when he practically carried Chelsea whole attack plus creativity. I just think because he isn't a prolific scorer he doesn't get credit as a wide player in this era
Plus the season he played with an injury and Jose got the sack has severely damaged his reputation

At the world cup the guy was unplayable

You can still enjoy your vacation without eating till you go to sleep aka all day, every day.

See my post above, I am not doubting his ability but from watching him he goes through spells of sheer awesomeness to periods where he looks like he cant be fecked. I'm probably being hard on him by saying he's never had a world class season fair enough. But if you were picking a world class team for any season would he make the starting 11 world wide? Again its how you want to define a World class player. Maybe its his attitude that annoys me.

He's won at least one PL player of the year, hasn't he?

So has Jamie Vardy, who again is a very good top class player but is he world class? Again it could be his attitude that annoys me, but its just an opinion if we all thought the same there would be no point in having forums.

Thomas Gravesen was another one.

He was a myth, inventing La Gravesinha

He was actually a good player, and his distribution was quite good tbh. The bad thing is that he was a walking red card waiting to happen on the pitch.

Hazard is the 4th best player of the last five years, behind only Messi CR7 Neymar.

Considering that his competition for most of the time would be Cristiano? Probably not. If you have to be as good as peak Cristiano to be considered world-class, it's a different matter.

I never really liked Hazard that much.

As good as he ever played - you could always watch him and see that he could and should be playing better.

I felt he played too 'chilled out' and that was only ever okay because he was at his club that treated him like a Prince. Any other club as we see like today then more questions maybe asked if he put maximum effort all the time.

I'd take silva & de Bryune any day of the week.

And I said I could probably be being harsh.
If you're comparing him to Berbatov, you really haven't seen enough of him. He's had one season when he was apparently "slacking", although Hazard & Chelsea themselves said that he was injured for most of it (believe it or not). He never focused on goalscoring but he was a very consistent and an all-rounded threat for years now, and not only for Chelsea — I mean, the guy was voted the 2nd best player in the World Cup where he also had the most assists. Aside from the goals & assists themselves, he earns tons of free-kicks and makes everything easier for his attacking partners, as he's usually marked by at least 2 players.

That's pretty much my view.
