"You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time," said Hazard, who has been a free agent since his contract was terminated in June.

"After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer."

A shame as he was a great Chelsea player but his career took a nose-dive after that.

He retired 3 years ago didn't he?

Anyway, increidble player in his pomp - was clearly the best player in the league at one point for my money.

The best to watch for sure for quite a while! Loved his attitude to life too. Wonder what he'll do next.

Brilliant player, one of my favourites. Ronaldinho school of football, aesthetics over stats. Not enough players like him anymore.

Love him so much. He brought so much joy to my life.

Farewell my prince. Happy retirement.

His quote about being able to be as good as Messi or Ronaldo if he wanted to was great jokes, but more seriously a great PL player that decided to stop playing once he got his dream move. Strange guy probably, but top top player on his day.

There was a period at Chelsea where he was arguably the best PL player. Likeable guy too. Such a shame. Wish him happiness in his future endeavours.

I am curious what you think of Neymar/Bales attitudes...

From what I understand neymar is a bit of a twat in his personal life and rather unprofessional, but I’ve no issue with Bale! Guy was a great footballer and then turned his effort to golf when Madrid messed him around.

Bale was just injury prone. Hazard was lazy and undisciplined with his diet and off-season training. Supremely talented players can get away with it... until they can't.

He kept retiring and coming out of retirement at Chelsea, then decided to fully retire in 2019 when he went off to Spain.

No one understand how he became shite player overnight. Then he retired, at age 32.

Wasn’t it persistent injuries at Real Madrid that fecked him over

Always thought of him as the most overrated supposedly elite player around. I'm seeing him be elevated to ridiculous levels on social media these days, but alas, undoubtedly a very good player and likely legend at Chelsea - and for a brief time was among the best in this league. Career ended a while ago though.

Hope he enjoys his retirement.

Probably a very content man - played at the highest level and played in an entertaining way, didn't live a super strict lifestyle and ended his career with his dream club. Will always be remembered as a great dribbler.

Agree.

A very talented player but not one of the all time greats of the Premier League. Not enough end product to be considered a great attacking player.

Totally agree with everything you said.

Eden Hazard has retired from professional football.
Does mean he can join us?

Is he overrated? He’s seen as one the best dribblers and a real entertainer and a few people have, fairly in my view, said there was a short period he was the best player in the league (I guess more accurately the best attacking player).

At Chelsea he was regularly compared to Alexis Sanchez (there was even a thread on here re which we’d rather get and it was incredibly close) and I think that’s probably a good comparison. I’d imagine few Chelsea fans would put him above Zola, Drogba, Lampard etc. would be interesting to know. Would suspect he’d be seen as a former great like Desailly who is not quite up there with the biggest names.

Awesome player.
His transfer to Real is unanimously the worst transfer of all time in my book

Only 4 years after his unofficial retirement.

He was decent for a while, he was no Bebe, but he did alright for himself.

Injuries cut his career short but he's also the guy that went for a burger with his dad when he got subbed off at half time when playing for Belgium. Was absolutely world class and carried Chelsea for a fair few seasons, his massive arse will never be forgotten.

If you do the dishes and the ironing, you can come and retire and chill with Charlie all day
Though Rooney in Paris spoke of Charlie he was a mere figment of his imagination. Joseph Snow knew that Rooney was unwell and needed to be taken care of, his once vivacious friend, now withered and grey, fading like fingerprints on an abandoned handrail.

Charlie is real godammit

Yo, he retired from *profesSional football.

Just saying.

It's hard to know with certainty what happened to him.

He missed the bulk of his first two seasons at Real Madrid due to injury. The third and fourth seasons, though, he just didn't get many minutes. He was 'healthy' most of the time.

End of an era.
Hazard gone. Ozil gone. Neymar in Saudi. Pogba almost soon to be gone. We were blessed to witness their careers.
Football will never be the same again.

Charlie is real many people have the scars to prove it
