Boring knows something we don't........and something that Ferguson and Kenyon don't either.

Didn't Blackburn say they wouldn't go over 4.5 mill. when we asked for 6m?

How did it get as low as 2m + 600K?

I,m afraid that once againwe've been shafted. We always seem to pay over the odds and accept too little ( with the exception of Stam) I,m wondering how hard we pushed for Duff if at all. I can't help thinking Yorkie plus fortune plus 8 or 9 mill would have beena feasible deal.

good luck Dwight.</strong><hr></blockquote>

He was great 'during' the treble season. And memories of that hatrick against the gooners will live long in the memory.

I will say however, that if you watch the (true) Treble video Yorky kinda disappears towards the end of that season - I suspect thats when his troubles started.

I don't understand the popular opinion on here which assumes we (read Sir Alex Ferguson and Peter Kenyon there) were interested in Duff to the point where we wanted to bid for him.

Perhaps we weren't.

2 million quid! shocking.

Good Luck Yorkey!

I actually got a feeling that he might form a lethal partnership with Cole again....although not as tremendous as the one in 98/99. Because honestly, he's still one of the best striker in premiership, that is if he can be arsed....

I hope he proves the crtics wrong, for the sake of his own career (hopefully not againast us).

Reportedly yes. Factually, obviously no.

Consider Yorke hasn't played regular PL football for two years, and everyone can sign him free of charge several months later, I think it is a good decision to offload Yorke now, even for only 2 million is better than nothing.

So will it clear the road for us to sign another striker?

It's a good point, after all where would he fit in ? We're really looking for a central striker a la Gudjohnsen to replace Cole/Yorke. Fergie probably thinks he's got one in Forlan but the jury is definitely out on him until we see him scoring regularly. The issue of Duff arose when first of all Fergie said he admired him and then when Blackburn became interested in Yorke plus of course the WC performances. Most people tried to put the two issues together. Blackburn say they want 20m plus for Duff which our Plc would not be prepared to pay particularly after the Rio. So where to play him plus the money makes the deal a non starter. He certainly wouldn't be bought to cover for Giggs or Beckham for that money would he ?

Completely agree with you. It now seems possible that we'll be playig 4-5-1 judging by another thread on the Caf where SAF is quoted in an interview. That, if true, would negate the need for another striker. Hence no interest in Duff, especially at that price, and a chance for Djordic when Giggs is out injured. That is not to say that Ferguson doesn't rate Fortune higher than many of us here on this forum and is quite happy for him to continue as back up to Giggs.
