yo neil ... does posting more make u smarter? give us a break ... u lot seem to think that all ur bloody opinion makes sense. come on this is a forum for gods sake. everyone has the right to voice out wat they think. sure people make some outrageous quotes but why do u haf to put someone down like tat? oh come on man ...

A Blackburn insider says:

"A deal for Damien Duff will be done this week"

"Damien gets back from his holidays on Tuesday and his future will be decided by the end of the week.

"It is not a case of if he moves but only which club he will move to. That is how close the transfer is now.

"Everything is in place to see the deal completed on Damien's return and the one certainty is that he will not be a Blackburn player by the start of the new season."

Apparently, deal will swing on Utd dropping asking price for Dwight.

Surely a source is an established pre-requisite to posting such guff.

I keep seeing this 25m figure banded about, feck that..wouldn't want him at that price...

He's a good player but he's the current hype, got a long way to go yet..

Can you imagine Poool paying 25 million for one player....when they are preparing for 1 20+ million bid next year for Cisse.

Duff - is maximum a 15 million + yorkie player. Higher than and its daylight robbery.
:(

that's 21 million...that too much in my opinion... i also completly agree that a strengthened defense should be top priority...

Sorry to rain on your parade but Softy has it that Duff will be signing for Liverpool....and you know he is a man with insiders working for him.

;)

25m is OTT.. i am not too sure United would pay such a fee for 'potential'.. he's a very good player.. but i wouldn't wnat us to pay mpre then 15m.

anyway, i doubt whether liverpool'll pay 25m..they've got plans for a new ground..where most of their money will be spent... (same goes for arsenal on big money transfers)

The papers in Ireland this morning are saying that Liverpool cannot pay more than £15M but will include their world famous defender Jimmi Traore in the deal. Duff is a UTD fan as are most of his family but he'll play every week with Pool as they dont have a left side. I dunno about the deal with us though as he wont displace Giggs but at the same time Giggs(or DD) can partner Ruud. Glad I dont have to make the decisions :p

cool. i hope Damien Duff and either Rio or Hofland arrives.

Duff can partner Ruud, or he can play on e left wing, making Ryan Giggs the natural provider for Ruud. Hmm, then the midfield competition will increase again.

Becks, Veron, Keane, Scholes, Butt, Giggs, and maybe now Duff? I think Fergie should offload Keano soon, and perhaps let Giggsy or Becks be new captain. Rio as United captain?

To generate more cash, these are few things Fergie should do, sell Barthez, Fortune, Yorke. that should at least generate a modest 10 million in total.

I normally back new posters, but not when they come out with the shite above about Keano AND this...

i'm sure Ruud fared a little better cause he's a stirker. A striker's job is to score goals and he has done that. but look at the chances he had earlier on. he looked terrible. he couldn't take advantage of his height, his dribbling is poor, and he is only good at shielding and holding up the ball, more like a heskey style and what a bore to watch.

That is not a fan, that is a windup merchant. I don't mind people having different opinions, if they're genuine, and have a little bit of thought behind them, but if someone totally new comes on to the forum and slags off our captain and top scorer, comparing the latter to heskey, then usually that new poster is a WUM, a scouser, a gooner, or an imbecile. I'm actually giving him the benefit of the doubt by just saying he's a WUM.

More experienced forum members, of which I'm not really one, know that there is a steady stream of wind up merchants on here and tend to be therefore a bit cynical and distrusting of new posters unless they're clearly very genuine. The reporter is an example of a new poster who's been very genuine, and who I've stuck up for. I seem to remember you getting harassed before when you seemed to be genuine and I've not liked it - true Reds have nothing to fear on this website, but if we let every windup merchant in here then this place would suck.

ofcourse he's a fecking windup....

Thats what I thought - that was a quote from Yj in this thread in the United forum. I'm not feckingly likely to say that about the player who broke all our scoring records in his first full season, including the EPL record of scoring in the most consecutive games.

that's a relief..I hoped you were tongue in cheek...if that's an example of his posting perhaps he should be hung :D

Yorke is not worth 6Million in todays market!!
out of contract in a year, out of shape, hardly plays first team footie.. Utd will be lucky to get 4 million for him!

I see Blackburn say they're keen to hold on to Duff.
www.skysports.com
Doesn't surprise me that they want to keep him, but despite initial optimism in the statement, it turns a little hopeful near the end don't you think?

Here's that statement in full...

Duff: new contract on offer

Blackburn Rovers chief executive John Williams has today stated that Rovers have no intentions in selling Damien Duff who has been the subject of transfer speculation.
The 23-year-old Irishman has been linked with a move away from Ewood Park with Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly interested in the £25m rated winger.

Williams is keen to keep Duff at Blackburn, and the club hopes to open contract talks with the player to extend his current deal.

Rovers chief executive John Williams told the clubs official website: "Clearly, everyone at the club would like Damien to stay. It is the club's intention to negotiate an extension to his contract at the earliest opportunity. I would be delighted to see him continue in a blue and white Rovers shirt next season.

"But it is essential he signs the new contract that is on offer. We need to protect our asset and talks with him will begin as soon as he returns this week.

"I have spoken with Graeme Souness and he is confident he can persuade Damien to remain with us on football grounds, at least for the foreseeable future."

I saw this statement, and the fact that Souness came out at the weekend to publicly call for Duff to stay as signs that he *will not* be staying. It's made the broadsheet media in Ireland that he's going:

[free, but you need to register for this site]

I just hope (and believe) he's coming to Utd!

the darkside?....used to be made up of nice, sensible, power-crazy, jedi-hating dark lords, the darkside....not prawn sandwich eating cuckoos who think they know hell more than fergie!!!!....and btw giggzy, you're the she who's actually a he 'cept to dans who still insists you're a she, correct....and that would make the other giggsy, the crying, complaining, whining thingy from man-u crazy s'pore, no....bloody confusing that :p
anyways back to the issue being discussed, duff would indeed make an excellent addition, but at 25 mil quid  come on, he's good, yes but he's no ryan giggs....doubt even giggs would fetch that much...it's ridiculous money.....evaluation from jedi master, duff for yorke + 8mil max...jedi master would rate him in the 13 mil bracket, not more.....fair, you think?.....

ook....put that way you have, hmmmmm....well, in that case, duff ought to be in the 52mil range eh.....seriously tho, heskey's just being played out of position....he's a brillianty player, just have to have him on the sidelines as the lead cheerleader, he'd do wonders, going up & down!!

ok ... i retract my statement about neil! guess i owe him an apology.
shit i shld be making more Man Utd fans rather than putting them in the spot.
hope this will make me a better red then???!!!

I disagree. The deal is close, and Duff holds all the aces. Basically it is down to the player. If he wants to go to Utd, he will. The only reason he might turn it down is because he thinks he'll be a sub the whole year.
Blackburn are going public with the new contract because they are worried he's changed his mind and wants to join Utd. Notice, they haven't improved the terms of his new contract since the WC. Strange for a club that wants to keep him!
All will be revealed in a few days.... :p

The lure of playing in the CL and playing for us will be too much for him to resist imo. If we're willing to pay for him, then he's ours.

All clubs are going to say their going to do their best to keep their best players. The fans want to hear that the club have ambition, when he goes they can say that they wish he had stayed as they think its lonely now with only an extra 15,000,000 in the bank ;)
Let the players get back, give em a week or two to sort things out and then they'rll be news one way or the other.

United switch sights to Duff
Monday, 08 July 2002

MANCHESTER United will switch their sights to Irish revelation Damien Duff as the Blackburn whizkid returns from holiday tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Reds are still hot on the trail of classy England defender Rio Ferdinand, despite the appointment of Terry Venables as Leeds manager today (Monday).

But Ferdinand is still taking his summer break, and his future will not be up for discussion until he returns.

It will be a big week for United's transfer activity, with chief executive Peter Kenyon eager to conclude business before the end of the month.

United made enquiries about both players before they were hits with their countries at the World Cup.

Winger-cum-forward Duff has two years left on his Ewood Park contract but he'll have a one-year extension to the deal waiting for him on the table when he returns from his holidays.

Rovers boss Graeme Souness wants the 23-year-old to stay and is hoping the new contract will persuade him to remain.

And Ewood chief executive John Williams said today: "Despite speculation over the weekend we are still hopeful that Damien will play for Rovers next season and we'll be talking to him on his return."

Liverpool and Arsenal are also keen on Duff but United have the potential makeweight of Dwight Yorke to aid their pursuit of the Irishman if he rejects Rovers' offer.

Yorke is Souness's priority name on his striker shopping list. He wants to team him up again with ex-United goalscorer Andy Cole but at £6m Rovers want the Reds to drop the price in order for the deal to go through.

Duff's reaction to Blackburn's new offer and Ferdinand's key talks with fellow Londoner Venables will unlock United's transfer stalemate.

If both prove out of reach United will move onto other names on Fergie's summer wish list.

Blackburn battle to keep Duff
By Alan Nixon
09 July 2002
Blackburn Rovers face make-or-break contract talks with their Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff as Liverpool prepare to increase their £12m bid.

Liverpool's offer falls well short of Rovers' £20m valuation for a player they discovered and groomed. They had hoped to keep Duff for one more season at least, but they could be forced to sell if the player decides his future lies away from Ewood Park.

Manchester United have also been linked with Duff but are unlikely to enter the bidding if it goes higher, even with Dwight Yorke to offer in part-exchange.

Duff is a 20 million pounds player. He is world class now and is going to be a world star.Utd should grab him now.He consistently makes absolute shit out of top class defenders at every level he has played at.He is quite simply the most exciting winger around at the moment ,he has done it with inferior players than are playing at Utd,he will flourish playing with the class of player at Manchester Utd.If you consider the fact that Overmars went to Barcelona for 25 million Duff is easily worth 20 mill.He is a better player.Manchester Utd should ensure that they sign the player. He will make an immesurably bigger impact than Seba did last season.Fergie pull your finger out!!!!!!!
