Drogba

You think Anderson will be better than Essien next season?

What do you base that on? He's been same old Anderson this season. A mixed bag of performances including stormers as well as some shockers and various injuries.
To be fair, Essien has been relatively poor lately. Injuries seem to have taken their toll, he's been nothing like the midfield dominator that he was in the past.

IF Anderson turns it around and becomes a consistent performer, him being better than Essien isn't that big of a call.

Essien has had a poor season by his standards but he's still been good. 1 good season should discount a number of years as 1 of the best in the business.

Granted IF Anderson can step up and IF he can get some consistancy then he has a chance. They're 2 very big ifs though.

No he wouldn't.
Yes he would if we ever bagged him. Stop deluding yourself.

He's been very average bar a very few games this season. What makes you think he'll suddenly find his form next season when he's another year older?
For the same reason Wayne Rooney who was shit for almost a whole year regained his best form. Class is permanent. For the last few games Drogba has been nigh unplayable. After finally getting over the damage his earlier bout of malaria wrecked on his season.

Drogba is a much better striker than every single one we have bar Rooney. We obviously don't need him and he may be 33, but we should not deny the obvious. It's not even debatable. I fully expect him to play with form till he is almost 40 Giggs style.

He's struggling to play regularly for Chelsea. How is it deluding myself to say he'd struggle to get in our side?

Drogba is 33. Rooney is 25.

Massive over exaggeration. He was good when he came on against United and was good against WBA at the weekend.

I fully expect him to play with form till he is almost 40 Giggs style.

No he won't.

Drogba would get into our team of course. He and Rooney would be our strike pairing. Not that it matters, it's not going to happen.

Mark Hughes was pretty much still banging in the goals till his mid-30s

I see Drogba going that same route. Everyone knows he's obviously not going to come to United though

Don't like that team.

Hernandez on the wing?

He's struggling to play regularly for Chelsea.
No he isn't. It's not his fault the manager is dumb enough to choose the ineffective Torres over him.

How is it deluding myself to say he'd struggle to get in our side?
That should be obvious by now.

Drogba is 33. Rooney is 25.
It makes no difference. Class is permanent. As long s Drogba is fully fit, form isn't an issue with him.

Massive over exaggeration. He was good when he came on against United and was good against WBA at the weekend.
He was excellent against WBA this weekend and very good s us when he came on. It's you who is exaggerating.

No he won't.
Yes he will. Watch and learn.

You make me laugh chief. I don't know why I even bothered reponding to you because arguing with you is pointless.

I'm exaggerationg by saying he was "good"? That makes sense. Saying he was "unplayable" isn't exaggerating at all though? Despite this unplayable form consisting of just 1 start against WBA and 1 sub appearance against us? OK.

You make me laugh chief. I don't know why I even bothered reponding to you because arguing with you is pointless..
It's only pointless when you want to be silly and get away with it.
Also, this isn't even an argument. So drop the high and mighty act.

You are trying to exaggerate your earlier point that he has been in average form all season. It shouldn't be be that hard to understand. Only a blinkered person can claim he wasn't very good against us and wasn't excellent vs West Brom, a game in which he was named man of the match.

Despite this unplayable form consisting of just 1 start against WBA and 1 sub appearance against us? OK.
Trust you to miss the point in your quest to exaggerate your earlier point. I only sighted his two most recent games as a small example. I didn't need to go further back. You just want to turn this into an argument for the feck of it and frankly I ain't interested. If you don't rate Drogba that's your own stupidity. Not my problem.

Why are so many posters obsessed with adding players we don't need? Drogba is 33 and in decline. It would make no sense to sign this player.

Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, and Welbeck is a tremendous set of forwards. I would much rather give young players like Welbeck and Hernandez opportunities than sign an uneeded player who would limit their development.

Haha feck off Chief. I'm not being silly. Drogba is not guaranteed a place in the Chelsea side, he would not be guaranteed a place in the United side. That's not to say he wouldn't get games though.

He has been average for most of the season. For 1 reason or another he has been average. AGainst us in the Champions League he was good but he was not "unplayable" which was your claim. I've already stated he was good v WBA also.

Once again, and read carefully, you said "For the last few games Drogba has been nigh unplayable" now this can only include 1.5 games. Mr earlier point which you keep referring to I'm presuming is when I said he has "been very average bar a very few games this season". Now if that is an over exaggeration it's not a very big one. His goal tally and the fact he has been heavily rotated should tell you that.

For some reason you took my saying he'd struggle to get in our side as me saying he's shit. That's far from the mark. But he'll be 34 next season coming of the back of an iffy year. He wouldn't displace Rooney and Hernandez would do more than just put up a fight. He's already dislodged the top scorer in the Premier League for a starting spot after all.

It was a joke. The f/a/p/f/a/p/f/a/p/ got starred out.

Ah right.

Exactly.

Let's sign Drogbaaarrr and stunt the development of Welbeck and possible Hernandez too :wenger:

You are being down right silly. Now claiming some of us said he'd be guaranteed games, when we simply said he is a better striker than all those we have except Rooney. Carry on though....

.....AGainst us in the Champions League he was good but he was not "unplayable" which was your claim
I said he was nigh unplayable the last few games. You have just made that up.

I've already stated he was good v WBA also.
Which is the type of silliness I'm pointing out. He was excellent vs West Brom. Calling it ''Good'' is a total understatement of his performance.

Once again, and read carefully, you said "For the last few games Drogba has been nigh unplayable" now this can only include 1.5 games.
Really? 1.5 games now equals to ''a few games''? oh Ok.

United don't need Drogba. We have Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez with Welbeck and Macheda coming through. Signing Drogba would be pointless as you have to share Hernandez's and Berba's games out more. I agree he's still quality but he is aging, and don't agree that every bar Rooney would drop out to make way for him. Hernandez has formed a good understanding with Rooney and suits him well, whereas Berba's the league's top scorer and a hugely talented player. It's not certain Dider Drogba at 33 is going to walk past them and why do we want him with Hernandez and Welbeck so young and needing opportunites?

He would be very good signing for Real, but he's going have to accept some form of rotation if he wants to play at a massive European club.

You are right. United doesn't need Didier Drogba. But personally, I'm a huge fan of him and I remain adamant that on his day he is the best striker by far. Like others mentioned, it would never happen but I would be ecstatic if it ever happened; even if it would mean displacing Berbatov.

Really? 1.5 games now equals to ''a few games''? oh Ok.

OK then, which games were you referring to exactly when you said "For the last few games Drogba has been nigh unplayable." if it stretched further back than his last 1.5 games?

Was it the Wigan game where he didn't score and was generally average along with the reast of the Chelsea game? Is it the first leg against us where he didn't score and was taken off? Was he unplayable in these games?

Or are we skipping back to the Stoke game where he scored? A game where he was also very average along with the rest of the team?

Before that he hadn't scored for about 10 games so come on Cheif? In which games was he "unplayable"? Or are you actually only referring to his last 1.5 games as I suggested and you laughed at?

Cheif in talking bullshit shocker.

Drogba is the only player from Chelsea that I admire... He is a fantastic player... Imagine him and Rooney together... lovely

FM dream. They would be monsters. I think we'd win the CL alot more easily with if those 2 found the right chemistry.

Also think Drogba and Hernandez would be something pretty special too.

The wheeler-dealer is back..................

Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham need to bolster their squad regardless of whether or not they finish fourth, and has not ruled out a swoop for Didier Drogba.

Spurs' coffers have been boosted considerably since they qualified for the UEFA Champions League at the end of last season, but they are fighting to make it through to the next edition of Europe's premier club competition.

A thrilling 3-3 draw with North London rivals Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in midweek left Redknapp's men in fifth position, two points adrift of Manchester City ahead of Saturday's match against West Brom.

There have been suggestions that chairman Daniel Levy may not be able to sanction big-money bids if Tottenham do not secure a top-four finish, but the manager maintains that it would be a backward step to have a quiet transfer window.

"Drogba is still a fantastic player, who knows. It's up to Chelsea what they do, he's been a great player for them. He's a fantastic centre-forward. Power, strength, he's got everything and he scores goals as well. "

Harry Redknapp on Didier Drogba

Quotes of the week

Redknapp is confident Spurs can build on their achievements of the past couple of seasons and challenge for the Premier League title in the near future, but recognises they will need a couple of high-class additions.

"There shouldn't be two transfer scenarios," he said. "If you want to get into the Champions League again you have to keep improving.

"People say 'If we get in the Champions League we'll buy some great players' but if you don't buy some great players you won't get in the Champions League. That's how it works."

There are concerns that rival clubs will come in for Tottenham's brightest stars if they do not make it into the top four, while attracting players to join a club in the Europa League could also be difficult.

Redknapp has rejected such a notion, though, saying: "People will come here anyway. They'll see we were in the Champions League last year and want to get in again.

"If you pay them the wages they'll come."

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Drogba, whose future at Chelsea has been the subject of discussion since Fernando Torres' arrival in January.

Redknapp admits he is an admirer of the Ivory Coast international and does not know whether something might happen in the summer, although he does not want to say too much at this point.

"Drogba is still a fantastic player, who knows," he said. "It's up to Chelsea what they do, he's been a great player for them.

"He's a fantastic centre-forward. Power, strength, he's got everything and he scores goals as well.

"He plays for Chelsea and until they decide otherwise, you can't speculate about his future."

No Parker move
One player who will not be joining Spurs this summer, according to Redknapp, is the newly-crowned Football Writers' Association Player of the Year Scott Parker.

Redknapp lodged a bid to sign the 30-year-old last summer but the emergence of Brazilian midfielder Sandro means his interest in Parker has cooled, even though he could be available on the cheap if West Ham go down.

"We liked him but I don't think we ever got close to signing him really," Redknapp said.

"They were asking for £15million and that's a lot of money for his age, but we have got plenty of midfielders.

"Sandro looks like he could be a good player. We have got Tom (Huddlestone), Luka (Modric), Jermaine Jenas and Wilson (Palacios)."
