Douglas Costa

Most might not agree but he is an average player. He’s easy on the high, has great dribbling skills, and so on, but his end product is really inconsistent.

Almost all our attacking players play worse than their actual level under Mourinho, even those ones he himself signed. It is not going to be any different with the new signings to be honest.

So this guy whose level is average, would end performing even worse than he used to. I hate to imagine how hideous his bad performances are gonna be for us. Sad.

Average. This average player you speak of was Juve’s player of the year. He’s less average than Salah was for Roma.

You should aim for above average players like Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar instead.

Willian was Chelsea’s player of the year. Herrera was once our player of the year. There are many examples of average footballers winning player of the year. It’s a good achievement but it says more about the relative performance of the players who won in a single season, rather than their actual abilities.

I understand the argument you are making with Salah but your analogy does not make sense in this scenario.
If Klopp was the one was signing Douglas Costa, then I’d be very worried. Many United fans would be worried too, and for good reason.

Klopp seems to be getting extraordinary performances from all his attacking players, even the very average ones. I wish I could say the same for Mourinho.

If Jose signs Costa, I can almost gurantee that he is going out to put in worse attacking performances than his current level which is nothing special. So what kind of player do you think we are going end up with?

If he is available, get him. We need some spark from the right

Every time i've watched Chelsea, I've seen Willian play very well. Although I have to admit I don't watch Chelsea quite often.

We quite obviously need a rw in the summer, if not these guys, then who?

I think at the moment riyad mahrez makes the most sense. If Bale wasn't so injury prone it would be him but then Madrid wouldn't sell him if he stayed fit

Marotta said yesterday that Juve are getting their option and make Costa’s loan transfer from Bayern permanent, so this is just fake news really? I do not know where you are getting your rumors from, here... interest =/= deal.

Pretty much

Do Bayern fans regret him leaving?
He would have helped last season with Robben&Coman out. Overall I liked him even after his initial (short) worldclass spell. Yet he wanted to have a bigger role in the team, that the club couldn't give him. The transfer was the correct decision for both sides. Everyone likes a tricky winger, who is on fire, but he wouldn't have reached this level in Munich again.

Will Costa have a say in this though? Can he reject Juventus? I'm not sure how this works, so genuine question.

So Juventus only have to pay 46 million euros but if United want him its 75 million pounds. Makes sense.

Players at Juve have always the last word. That said, he seems very happy with his season and Juve will surely get him on a permanent for the €40m agreed last year with Bayern. What happens next is anyone guess. In Marotta shoes, I would happily take £75m from United for him. I would not take £50m for Alex Sandro because we are very short of quality in that department with Lichtsteiner and Asamoah both gone.

Well, Juve have a contractual option to buy him and United would have to negotiate with Costa‘s club. So yeah, it makes sense that they would have to pay more.

But why would it be €30m more? Surely Bayern would be happy to accept anything higher than what Juventus have to pay

The prices inflated. I would also assume that Juve triggers the option and then sells him. So a potential suitor would talk to Juve, not Bayern.
This of course only if Costa wants to leave Juve!

that’s it

Said it many times. I'd rather pay £70m for him than whatever Chelsea want for Willian.

Didn't realise he's scored so few goals throughout his career, 4 league goal in each of his last 5 seasons.. that is serious consistency.

I get that he's not necessarily that kind of player, but thought his output would be a lot better considering who he's played with.

Looked just the sort of player we're crying out for on the right

He’s still a far superior player to Willian who some would love here.

I’ve gone off them both, they don’t score enough or affect games enough. If we can’t get a big hitter like ronaldo or bale then I’d like us to find a young un or give parreira a chance. No spending big money on meh players

He did just sign an extension through 2022 so time to close this one down. Please start a thread in the footy if needed.
