What the feck are Madrid doing paying a trained gynecologist and notorious doping doctor travel expenses in 2007, 2008 and 2009?

The original quote mentioned 2007, 2008 or 2009. For some reason, some Dutch media have changed that to 2007, 2008 and 2009.

And it's supposedly compensation for his testimony in the case of Real vs Le Monde. The French newspaper had published an article in 2005 or something claiming that Fuentes had doped some Spanish top football clubs, including Real Madrid. Real Madrid sued Le Monde and Fuentes testified in that case.

BBC's Newsnight is reporting on Twitter an interview with one of the witnesses the Puerto case, in the interview the witness claimed that footballers as well as athletes from other sports (other than cycling) were purchasing doping products. The witness calls Spain "a paradise for sports dopers" and accuses the Spanish government of an almighty cover up.

I would guess Newsnight will broadcast the interview very soon.
