Fantastic control with his right at 1:28 and 2:57 despite being hounded by defenders before scoring with his left. His control with his right foot have always been fantastic. With his left, not as often exceptional as his right but he's got good solid touch with his left also and can make good passes with it. Scored a lot with it too.
I think the clubs priority signing is Longstaff. I think they might be waiting to see if the Newcastle takeover collapses to see if we can land him then.
I think we have genuine interest in Van de Beek but I'd say so do many other big clubs.
I wonder why people here seem to think he will not cost much?

I'd buy the fecker, close the deal now before someone else snaps him up. It's not like we loads of quality midfielders. I also like his attitude. He's got some balls on him.
We have nothing to lose getting him for a 'reasonable' fee now. He'll be costing way more in a couple of seasons if we let him go elsewhere.

Agree on that. He is not Carrick. Would still be useful given his versatility, functional technique, movement and extremely quick perception/decisionmaking.

This is my #1 midfield signing now.
Not because of his quality and versatility which is obvious but he looks like a bit of a mad bastard and one of the few midfield leaders around.

With Pogba money, we can get VanBeek/Aouar/Barella and Pepe or Sancho with Lukaku+ few other player sales money would fix front line too.
We can still add more players with left over money from this year budget.
I think without spending too much money, we can build a good team this year if we act quick.

Makes so much sense and would be a perfect signing, therefore I conclude that we won't be signing him now and instead wait for him to join spurs or someone else before launching a 100m bid next season

How so? He was quality for Ajax this season and one of their better performers against top teams in the CL. Been discussed on here for months and months now. Quality player who can basically play any role in central midfield.
Interest has obviously peeked here since he mentioned us randomly as a preferred destination but then why wouldn’t it.

He played as a no.10 last year and was an important part of a very good side. Think that was the first time he’d been deployed there though and he’s said to be highly versatile, which is the impression you get when watching him.
I thought he was a breath of fresh air in that advanced role. Tidy but unspectacular, physical, highly energetic and extremely intelligent with his movement and in his decision-making on the ball.
I suspect many would look at his qualities and see a deeper midfield player as plenty did with the likes of Vidal or Nainggolan but it’s not always the case. I’ve only seen him play no.10 and was impressed. He has a lot of qualities needed in this United team overall (not just in midfield) and is the kind of player Solskjaer has said he’s looking for.
Van de Beek was not a starter for Ajax at the start of the season and was whining about leaving right away. In all honesty, it was a weird choice for ten Hag to start with Ajax the way he did, but nonetheless van de Beek was not in the first 11 and did not waste time to let it be know he was not pleased with that.
Van de Beek is a nice talent but I do not see him getting to a level that we would need to get back to the top. He will be closer to Davy Klaassen 2.0 in regards to his level than to a world class midfielder. Everything fell into place for Ajax later in the season, and as a result most players were able to overperform. For some players, I believe there is a huge risk that they will turn out to be a lot less than thought as soon as you pull them away from the current Ajax team.
I would pass on him. Ajax will request way to much money for him as they are all overvalued now, and he has not shown enough to realisticly believe he will improve us right away. Looking at players like this is a bit of a sign of panic to me.
We need to sign a higher quality and I rather see us actually give our top youth players a chance as back up than to sign a player like van de Beek who will costs a boatload and still has a long way to go.
I did like him but after watching him more. He’s clearly the player benefiting from good talent around him. Basically he’s average! Stay clear.
That was because he struggled initially in the SS role he was deployed. That's normal for any player deployed out of his comfort zone. Not only was he deployed as a SS but he was utilised behind a false 9 striker. How does that work? He would have to play as a striker for such to work. He already mentioned how he had to train hard and improve some part of his game tactically to fit into the role required. Any other young player would have given up hope the moment he got deployed out of his comfort zone.
As a matter of fact, without Van de Beek operating as a SS to provide the presence and movement behind Tadic, Ajax wouldn't have gone far. An Ajax fan made mention of this when it was asked that Van de Beek should be returned to the midfield role.
He's no Klassen though. Van de Beek already outshone Klassen when he was just 19/20 yrs old while playing as a no 8 or CDM. He also outshone Schone. He was always Ajax's best player everytime I watched them before he got moved to the no 10 role this season.

How many talents do Ajax have? He's one of these talents because he's an integral part of Ajax team. Without him, Ajax's CL semi final wouldn't have happened. Besides, this was a player who outshone Klassen and Schone at the age of 19yrs old.

As a central midfielder. That's his best position. I have watched many times as a central midfielder against Nice twice, Standard Liege, Manutd in the Europa final match etc and he looked far above his teammates on the pitch everytime I have seen him.
I dunno, mate. While I agree that a few of the Ajax lads may well flatter to deceive elsewhere, Van De Beek definitely is not one of those.
He looks a relatively two-footed, complete midfielder in the making with a great engine and will to win.
Doesn’t always look silky to say the least but very effective. Reminds me of Bastian in that way. In a lot of ways actually.

He's a bit like Thomas Müller. We need players like him here even if it's just for the mentality.

I think you're viewing him as a SS/striker which is where he's been deployed this season but like Ten Hag already said, Van de Beek is a central midfielder who had to be moved to a no 10 role because of a tactical need.
I don't think he looks similar to Muller because he's not even a SS to begin with.
More established than Longstaff, likely to be same value, same age, two footed.

Yeah I don't know what his true level is but I do know we're not good enough at the moment to be turning down good, young, hungry players who want to play for us. If there's a deal there we should be doing it. If even better players crop up great, let's sign them too.
Would love to have van de Beek at the club. Would be a definitive upgrade on Lingard.
