If this were about PR and had no basis in reality, we'd have leaked a more famous name like Grealish or Maddison.

We're short of midfielders so I'd take him certainly. Not at all convinced he's as good as the hype though.
Edit: actually I'm not sure. This lad could end up being another player who's not quite what we're looking for like fellaini, schneiderlin or blind. If we sign van de Been do we end up not signing Maddison because we've already filled the position?

I know. But as much as I liked Herrera, we needed great passers even when we had him. We need all the more now given Fred, Periera and Mctominay are our main CMs.

I see him more as a Herrera type in a 3 man mid but with a much better attacking influence. The lack of attacking quality in the final third made me not miss Herrera to much as i think that is a very important aspect for that position. I could see a mid 3 of McTom/new guy, DVB and Pogba be similar in function to City's DM, Silva and KDB.

I'm on this. People need to start questioning why he's not regular starter in his national team like Wijnaldum & De Jong if he's that good.
For one thing one plays in the PL at Liverpool and the other at Barca. Players that play at a higher level tend to be favored in NT for obvious reasons. That doesn't mean that DVB can not get to the same level. He was a target for Real last summer and United now, so that says something about his quality and potential.
He can play in midfield too. Played quite abit further forward due to Frenkie de Jong and Schone playing well together. But from what i've seen he can play the #6 #8 and #10 to varying degrees.
If he did sign, then i'm hoping we change to a 4-3-3 with Pogba the AM, VdB the box to box #8 and Soumare as the DM if we sign him.

Not playing over those two is understandable but couldn't set himself to be regular starter over players like Propper & de Roon is questionable. Being targeted by clubs like Real Madrid & United means nothing, Real Madrid signed Gravesen, Drenthe & Faubert, were they even decent player? No. Bakayoko was being targeted by lot of big club, how is he?
That's what I've always felt about him. He has nice moments in games but can be completely invisible. I fear he'd get lost in the PL and end up on the dead wood pile before long. If you look at Klassen's best season for Ajax vs De Beek their stats are eerily similar, Klassen actually edges him pretty much across the board.
Well, we arent in a position where we can play it safe. If he is the only one we can get of a certain level and considering his CL experience, we just have to take the risk.
We are playing with Fred, Matic and Pereira in midfield, and Fred's legs gonna fall off soon. Imagine if he got injured, which is a real possibility now considering how many games he's played.

One just won a champions league and is going to win a premier league, the other plays for Barcelona in a different position.

His 'level' is unknown, he'd be a massive gamble. I'd rather us go after Ziyech from Ajax. At least he does crazy numbers in the Erdivisie.
De Beek would be the definition of the panic buy, it appears he wasn't a target previously and we'd have to pay big big money for him because we're in a panic.
Aside from the Europa League this season looks a write off anyway. I'd rather us just stick to our guns and blood some youngsters. We'll have to go all out in the Europa and hopefully McT, Pogba and Maguire can be back by then.
If we were city or Chelsea or Madrid or barce we would sign him for 50m and play him at 10 and if he doesn't work out we would sign someone else. City spent 60m on a right back and don't play him and nobody cares

He'd do feck all for United. He benefits from the abundance of creativity in this Ajax side, in which his runs and goalscoring abilities thrive. On his own though, he's not going to force anything.

Think Ole has made it abundantly clear we arent buying anyone that hasnt been a target of ours, he even said it again after the City match.
Ofcourse, because of injuries they are somewhat panicking and will probably overpay if we get him, but I'm pretty certain they wouldn't buy him if they didnt rate or scouted him before.
My guess is he was like the 4th or 5th choice after Maddison, Graelish and some others.
Sounds like Ander Herrera before joining United, in terms of versatility, except he scores more. Personally only seen the semi final against spurs where he looked good and scored a decent goal with a very composed finish.
Van de Beek can make the runs and Pogba can do the passing. Pogba needs to stay for that though.
But i do agree, without good passers his main quality (the off the ball runs and arriving in the box) wont be used with great effect.
Van de Beek is a much better player than Klaassen though.
