bro - i tell you what has been proven countless times is that coming from one league to the PM has made a mouse of a man. 50 mill for Fred for a start and the jury is still out. If I was manager I would MAKE SURE - and the jury is still out on Maguire and AWB according to many. Bruno is the only success

I’m not saying this is going to be the case but I just hope it doesn’t get in the way of signing more guaranteed successes like Grealish, neves and sancho - who despite coming from a different league is obviously that good...

VDB is only 23 and provides far more of a goal threat than Fred. Looks a proper box to box midfielder and also the right type of personality. Not sure how he's comparable to Fred especially since we badly needed to add depth.

Could be said about any team and any player. Fact is we were well stocked with options and for all we know ole could have been the one holding the deal up to give the existing midfielders a chance. Regardless of when we got him, we got him and look how it ignited the rest of our season.

He's touched the ball in the box this season more times than Bruno, Piereira and Lingard combined. He is easily better than the latter two.

I suppose but as under the current financial climate, we aren't likely to spend much more than this, seems odd that we would spend out money on a back up to Pogba or Fernandez and not a back up to the front 3.

But maybe it's just a case of buying the best player we could afford.

What's wrong with Fred? He was immense before the restart and was good against Sevilla.

I feel like it'll be the latter. Not convinced he's a DM, but thought he played well there against Sevilla. Imagine Ole deemed his contribution going forward not sufficient, hence the need for Donny.

Fred is average, but he can do a job in the right game. Surely Pereira will be the midfielder to move, if anyone. It's as important we move the deadwood as make new signings. We need a lean, high quality squad.

People have really forgotten that Pereira even plays for us. He got an insane amount of minutes last year.
 
I just don't understand some people. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. To be honest, I didn't have any clue about the type of player this guy is but having seen his age and his stats along with the fact that he has CL experience with Ajax tells me that we are definitely going in the right direction. Earlier, our transfer approach was totally scattergun and we would chase the flavor of the month but now it seems we have finally got it. Well done.

Seriously though, this negativity is getting tedious. If we go after a big name, people will be like "Look how foolish we are, we are chasing unattainable targets". If we go after a mid-table player who is attainable, people will be like "the club lacks ambition, Glazers are leeches etc. etc.". If we go after a promising talent then people are like "Mediocre player for a massive amount of money". It's completely stupid to behave in such a vindictive and cynical manner. At least give the lad a chance to prove himself. Maybe, just maybe, the club have seen something that us armchair scouts haven't? It's that possible.

After Chelsea got their business done early, all our fans were shouting from rooftops about our lethargy and lack of pace in negotiations. Now that we actually get a player, people still find a way to be negative about this. Rant over.

The transfer was easy because of the relationship, no lying or bluffing. But VDS was always going to be involved.

I have to say, some of you are a bit miserable. We've signed a versatile, talented, energetic midfielder who's entering his prime. Isn't this something to be happy about?

I just don't see how Graelish or Neves are guaranteed successes. There are plenty of players who just can't make a step up even being "PL ready" like Stones. I think if the player is good enough he won't have issues adapting to the PL, or any other league in the world.
 
Why are people donwplaying this transfer so much? Didn't we all want the club to sign a prolific young player to strengthen our lines? Yes, we did. Did the club do it? Yes, they did. What's your fecking problem, people? We could sign both Messi and Ronaldo and some people around here would act like we've bought some fecking Liechtenstein international players.

I’m impressed I must say, this piece of transfer business has been done swiftly and for a good price. This is the way it should be done, credit to Woodward and Judge on his one. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

That post makes no sense. Apparently coming from the premier league is a guaranteed success, but the players we bought from the premier league wasn’t a a success and the player we bought from the Portuguese league was a success. So that means Grealish will be a success but Van de Beek won’t be a success.
