Yeah I’m happy with this, he fits Ole’s demographic for recruitment.

Also I like that he’s good in the press, I have been adamant that this is something Ole really wants to implement more in his style.
Not 100% sure he’s a starter but that’s a very good price for a quality player to add into rotation.

I genuinely think this is Oles greatest strength, his signings (and I still include Maguire) all seem to have not only talent but also great attitudes and strong mentality. Those are the types of players Ole was surrounded with during his playing days here.
I think if this does go through at 40m Euros it’s because of Van Der Saar. He loves United, knows Ole very well and probably endorsed us to VDB. If this happens, I’d be a very happy man. He’s a good player and would do well in our system.
What if the board asked Ole to choose between Sancho alone, or VdB plus a couple more?

Quality signing. Only really saw him in the CL but he looks a very good player and a good age. I like signings like this that a few days ago didn't feel like was on our radar.

If we end up signing him for 40m then it is a much better deal in terms of profile and outlay than last summer. We overspent on all of our recruits, AWB representing the best value for money of the three. Bruno deal, again, was much healthier in terms of what you're getting for your money.

Like starting for the national team is a measure of player capability. We signed Tony Martial who doesn't start for France but only a mad person can say that is a negative. I know personally that Jack Grealish is good player but he has not played for England yet. Means nothing that Donny doesn't start for Netherlands. Let's just rejoice that for once we are signing technically good footballers. We are definitely on the up come on United!!

40m base is decent for a player of his talent
Read that he's going out with Dennis Bergkamp's daughter. Guess that's both him and the club that like sticking it to Arsenal.
Really curious signing as he's not had too much experience playing the DM role so I doubt the idea is for him to take over Matic long term and instead we'll use him as a way of rotating Bruno/Pogba while also using all three in games when we expect the opponent to sit back.

It probably wasn't quick at all. The first we knew was him being removed from the squad to play that friendly which meant talks were at an advanced stage so they'll have been in contact for a while.

I'm pretty sure the fee was set when he was going to Madrid. I don't think Van der Saar has much to do with it.
