I don’t know much about him either but I’m just guessing ole thinks so because no way is he going to move to us to sit on the bench?

I have no idea, but Ole doesn't seem the type to buy players purely to bolster the squad. All of his previous signings have gone directly into the starting eleven.

It's great having so much competition for places, though. I genuinely cannot recall the last time we were this stacked in central midfield.

I would never claim to be a football expert, but it’s not hard to grasp that one man in one position can’t play every minute of every single game, unless perhaps he’s the GK. Even then there are always potential injuries and suspensions.
Neither me, and yet you have people on here who seem to question these kind of signings. I don't understand the mentality. It's not difficult to grasp. Pogba played only 16 EPL games last season, Bruno looked spent the last few games. Bringing in VDB, will provide cover and competition for those two, without us having to rely on the likes of Mata, Andreas, and Lingard which is where the quality then falls off like a cliff.

Good signing if he comes and fully behind Ole

Ye he's a very good player. High work rate, technically very good. Gets forward into dangerous positons. Does a lot of running off the ball which creates space for the attackers. Will provide excellent squad depth for the Pogba/Brun positions.

Cool, thanks.

How is he compared to Klassen? I remember Klassen was highly rated and had scored 20 odd goals in all competition but when he moved to everton, he completely flopped.

I don't get this ? So is he coming here to sit on our bench? No way will he start before pogba and Bruno. Undoubted a good player and I'd love to fit rid of Jesse and his mates but I just can't see him being happy sat on the bench ?
If we sign Grealish he will be backup too. So you want 80m backup or 40m backup?

Cool, thanks.
P34 games last season scored 14 (8 in the league) 7 assists. If I had to think of a premier league player reminded me of him, it would be Lampard. I am not saying for one moment he will ever be as prolific as Lampard, but he is that kind, always in and around the box. Dangerous player. Technically very good

Honestly there is enough smoke in this transfer that we don't need to scrape the bowl for this shit

I'd expect Athletic to come out at some point to give some clarity on this too, they can be seen to be sat in the shadows for too long. Given they are "premium" content and all.

How does signing players from abroad work at the moment? Do they have to quarantine before even taking a medical if they are coming from one of the countries on the covid lists? Or is it like F1 where everyone was allowed to come in and out of the country on some sort of 'Elite Sport' exemption?

Our midfield, bar a cultured dm to rival Matic, will be nicely stocked if it happens. Unless we believe the noises that Scott is being prepared for the role. Both he and Fred proved last year that they're easily good enough to be squaddies here and surely that Dutch fellow only adds to that?

Then you've got Bruno, Pogba and a potentially fresh Matic.

Get sportswitness source out of here. They know absolutely nothing
You're right, and they never claim to be ITK. They aggregate transfer stories and post them. They will post credible and non credible links.

Not too shabby I'd say, with only Matic being on the wrong side of 30, too.

Yup looks good in mid. If we can get a RW ( please Sancho and not Brooks) and CB in also then we will be much closer to where we need to be. Would be happy to see some players sold though

And considering Pogba's contract situation. It is better to sign VDB now and be prepared and not be desperate in the near future. Gives us a good/upper hand in Pogba's contract negotiation.

I am a huge Grealish fan but certainly can't argue with the fact that Van Der Beek offers us more all over the midfield area

Grealish is a decent player but his best matches came as a left inside forward. Also Aston Villa has priced him out at 60m-80m. VDB is a great talent who will come for 30m-40m. That allow us to buy other players. I also have a feeling he'll become pretty popular with both fans and Ole. He's the tenacious, box to box, complete midfielder they both like

He’s potentially better than all of our midfielders bar Pogba (on his day) and Bruno. Why would anyone be opposed to this?

The idea of strength in depth seems alien or outrageous to some fans on here.

He's coming here to compete and will get many games.

Who is he starting ahead of when everyone is fit? Why would he be happy to come and not be a starter, and why would we pay the supposed 40m+ for someone that we don't intend on starting? You can talk about a long season, everyone gets a chance etc. etc., but at the end of the day, some players get 40+ games, and some get 20, with half of those being 15/20 mins at the end of games. He must believe he is going to play to come here, in my opinion.

Or he fancies himself to establish hinself at Utd?

Exactly what I was thinking! The transfer makes almost too much sense. Unless he does a Schneiderlin.

Pogba and Bruno can't and won't play every minute next season. Dross like Lingard, Andreas played far too many minutes last season and simply shouldn't get a look in if we're serious about improving. That's why we're after this lad, so we can rotate quality for quality, its bafflingly simple, yet so many people are confused.

People are confused, they want world class players, but they don’t want to pay money. They want squad depth, but you get linked with someone with CL class and experience and apparently they’re not good enough. You get linked with a young talented player (Brooks), and apparently we’re settling for mediocrity.

The bottom line, moaners will moan regardless.

We would've had people moaning about Messi, Sancho, Van De Beek summer I'm sure. 'yea it's all well we spunked that cash but how about the full-back position?'
