AWB for me, factoring in price. Telles was a cheap punt. VDB had done pretty impressive stuff at Ajax (although he’s always been a terrible fit at United).

He just doesn’t have any qualities that stand out. Not strong, no pace, ok passer but nothing special, good in the opponents box but nothing special, not especially great at breaking down play and winning possession.

Good shout with AWB. It's pretty hard deciding with all that crap we bought the last couple of years.

The ghost from Nijkerkerveen.

I wonder if he plays a mini game in his mind, where he actively tries to avoid any action on the pitch, to see how long it takes for him to get subbed.

Today he was going to play as an 8, and every time we had to defend he just jogged into some obscure position higher up the pitch not marking anyone or doing anything useful, making Fred our only cm.
In possession he is as useful as a wall you play 1-2s with. The only times he attemps to sprint is when he tries to run in behind the defence, so maybe he should try to become a striker in a team in Malta or Gibraltar or something.

I would rather play one of our academy players before him this season and do anything we can to get rid of him permanently.

Only word I can think to describe him is "yikes".

Maybe Ole wasn't wrong then to leave him out? He doesn't even look that good playing for his old coach.

Am keen to see if people will try and claim his poor performance today was because of the level of players he was playing with again :lol:

Shocking performance yet again, in a game where he really should have stood out.

If somebody claimed after this tour that Donny's never been to Australia, I wouldn't be able to prove them wrong.

The natural evolution of the false 9 is into the false footballer - Donny has achieved this, outstanding!!

The match just passes him by and he just can’t get into a game, apart from a few moments and glimpses.
The assist in the earlier game apart.
It might be better all round, if we can use Donny as part of a deal to get Antony.

Mad how there's still a sizeable population of the caf that think he should play more or is just not being used properly. All he ever does is pass 5 yards to the nearest man.

Ajax absolutely fleeced us for £40m.

This is the 'Mark Goldbridge effect'.

I have no idea actually whether Goldbridge has talked-up DvdB necessarily, but my point is, you see that when a prominent social media fan channel champions or pans a player, you see the same opinions adopted by a large number of clueless people.

These social media pundits are worse than clueless, yet their opinions become mainstream

If Ten Hag let’s him go then I will have more trust in him as a manager.

I hope he doesn’t hold on to ex players unnecessarily.

This is the most average player I've ever seen get so much support from our fans. He did absolutely nothing all game. This is no different to how he usually plays. Maybe we will finally see the end of Donny FC when even ETH doesn't play him.

Today’s match was his big opportunity to convince the manager and supporters that he can bring something to the team. Again he showed he definitely isn’t a starter, but I’m not very positive to him as squad player either. He is too much filling mass on the pitch only.

The more he plays, the more he will be exposed. He is better off on our bench for the sake of his football career. If we don't sign De Jong, and McTominay and Fred manages to be unavailable at some point, he is in trouble.

This lad makes McTomminay feel missed. At least with McTom you get some physicality in midfield and winning the ball back, VDB doesn't offer anything. Too lightweight, doesn't show up for the ball, anonymous in midfield and generally non existent performances.

Forget about support, he is the most mediocre player I have ever seen at the club. We've had some very poor Premier League footballers, but some could run, and others could put themselves about.

Van de Beek doesn't even get involved enough to look poor. He is just nothing at football, not good, not bad. It is difficult to believe a footballer like him even exists to begin with.

For as long as football is played on the current field dimensions with the association football rules, he is never going to make it in the English top flight. Not even at the likes of Fulham and Southampton.

None of us do apparently. He was going to be Hag's main guy and displace Fernandes comfortably.
The apologists will tell you he needs De jong, its just preseason, its ETH fault, he need Van gaal, its the system.....I don't rate some of our players but at least they contribute, he doesn't.

I am sick and tired of this argument. The idea that every time someone has a certain viewpoint it's somehow because they listen to Goldbridge is quite frankly downright silly.

Om topic: Donnie really doesn't look like he is good enough.

You can be sick of it all you want. Oddly enough Goldbridge is chief cheerleader of the Donny fan club and blamed Darren Fletcher for RR picking Mctominay ahead of him.

I've been saying it none stop, to the point it now gets ridiculed in the group chat, but he's the most nothing player I've ever seen play for us.

I understood Gibsons strengths more than VdB
That's because Gibson is a better midfielder the VDB.

Alot of people who have seen Donny under Ten Hag expected him to kick on. So far he hasn't.
Has nothing to do with Goldbridge.
The argument that whenever someone disagrees with you they must be Goldbridge fans, is about as useful as sticking your thumbs in your ears and yelling la-la-la-la. It's about the same level of intelligence as well.

Surely he has to have more in his locker to have been purchased for the gross national product of a small country.

Surely...

Nobody said 'everyone'. The point is, any old idiot can create a fan channel and start spouting opinions they are not qualified to air publicly and they have far too much influence - and of course it's not silly, herd-mentality is a provable psychological phenomenon

EDIT | In fact, I'll add to this....so one of the reasons I am posting this today is I went on Twitter this morning (which I rarely do) and saw, no exaggeration, three tweets within 20 seconds from 'blue tick' accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers making pro-Donny posts and posting excitedly about the fact he was starting. The bloke is a nothing footballer. Not good at anything and has contributed absolutely nothing in two seasons at the club or on loan at Everton, who are terrible. Yet the air-time he gets and the promotion he gets from these nonsense fan accounts and channels means a far larger percentage of our supporters than would otherwise be the case seem to think he has somehow been hard-done to

Yeah he needs to leave. I hope ETH will be ruthless on this. Bruno, Eriksen, Iqbal and Hannibal are enough on his roles, whatever that is.

So last game he, in 15 minutes, change the course of the game and was world class... and in this game he's way worse than McT?
Maybe a player can have a bad or good game?

I rate him but he was terrible today, no getting away from that.

This is the Donny we know though, he didn't have a bad game, he usually doesn't.
He has nothing performances were he was invisible both when we had the ball and when we didn't, he's just taking up space at this point.

He's just.... I don't know. He just doesn't bring anything to the table, he's flimsy, unadventurous, boring... He's just sort of there passing the ball to the nearest man. I just don't and have never seen anything in him. He's worse than Kagawa and Mkhitaryan.

I think his game basically boils down to basic link up play and, from what ETH said about his time at Ajax, scores a few tap ins now and then. He's in no way a player that takes any responsibility on the pitch.
