Did Patrice Evra say we don't need VDB? Mug thing to say to be honest.

Has to start vs Leipzig, with Pogba and Matic in a 352. Whats the use of having a squad if you still play Bruno 90 minutes every game. Hes a quality player, use him and not mediocrity like dan James.

Maybe a Pogba replacement signed a year early to give time to settle? Otherwise I don't understand why he was signed.

He'll feature more as the season progresses. He's clearly a good player but, even in his starts, he tends to drift in and out of the game alittle too much for my liking.

It’s weird he’s not playing but it was kind of cool to see how strong our bench was yesterday. VdB, Pogba, Cavani, Telles, Greenwood. For the last few seasons I’ve been looking at the benches of top CL clubs and realising how inadequate we were compared to them, with Lingard, Pereira, Ighalo and the gang all we could look too if we needed to change the game. Having a players as good as Donny on the bench is the sort of thing that top teams do every week.

Telles Wasnt on the bench yesterday. But completely agree with you the squad depth looks far better now, we need to get the balance right and the right combination still feels we are a proper winger away from Being very good.

Just a bit strange when the eye test so far has shown that he has the ability to play a part in the game than none at all or very limited minutes? Not saying there is something wrong, just feels a bit odd and with those players sat on the bench, it 'feels' like he's making some kind of point to some players. Not too dissimilar to Jose, just in a different way. When Frank looked at that team, he must have wished he set up in a different way.....

Top teams don’t have Dan James and Scott McTominay starting though. No doubt Ole has players to make a push for the title. He has to get a system to play our best players.

AWB will go 1v1 with any winger in the Prem so I’d switch to a diamond. Get Pogba/Bruno/VDB all starting.

Rotate Martial/Rashford/Cavani/Greenwood for the two starting forward positions and bring in Mata in the 10 role at times during the year to rest Bruno.
Away from home in big games go 3-5-2 with Fred and McTominah holding and then bring Pogba/VDB whoever misses out on as an impact sub if we need a goal.

We don’t have a top winger in the squad. Obviously our strikers can play on the wing like we’ve seen but we are not a team who gets wide and whips crosses in. We must play to our strengths which a diamond midfield with two strikers does in my opinion.

Not sure when people will realize that a person who licks raw chicken and posts that on the Internet, maybe not the smartest and shouldn't be taken seriously...

Also, his job is to create soundbites and quotes so he can create discussions. Gaslighting is one of the media's favorite tools in recent years.

I think there is a lot of truth to that. We will have to wait and see but I have a strong feeling that is the case. If so, kudos, such long-term planning is something we haven't done in years.

Is that what ole told Bruno as well?
Bruno came when we had the need for him in the starting XI. Would you now take Bruno off just to cram Donny in?

Yes, he did say that, but he explained himself a few weeks previous when he said we should have brought in a DM or a CB. We had enough players for the position VdB plays in.

I wouldn't have moved Bruno out wide, I would have tried to get Donny into that game. He nullified Bruno completely moving him wide. He might as well have taken him off.

Signed as squad depth and another attacking midfield option , which every fan here was in agreement with.

Goes on to be a attacking option from the bench and now people are forming some sort of indifference or issue between player and manager.

Love this place.

I doubt James will start many games once Martial is back. This was a necessity. Cavani probably wasn't ready to start the game and thus James got the nod. Donny is not a winger and cannot be expected to fulfill the role as James does (running up and down the wing to ensure Reece James doesn't get too comfortable, while also providing an attacking outlet and a threat on the counter)

I don't think there are many people who argue against AWB's defensive qualities. But in a diamond it is the fullbacks who provide the width. Did you not see how limited AWB is in attack, especially with the ball? At best, he creates space with his presence. But he both doesn't make the right decisions with the ball, nor he controls it very well.

I do hope he gets better in this aspect of his game because I like him but at the moment he is not great in attack. If we play teams who will defend deep and pose no significant threat down their left wing, I would prefer if we try Williams.

I think this is pretty much the plan but Donny is also a rotation option for the wide forward positions, as well as Bruno's spot.

One can only hope Pellistri and Diallo address that point!

He should rest Bruno against RB and play Donny, the guy excelled in Europe for Ajax and VDS said he can play any position in midfield so I cannot see why he won’t play if fit.

If this is the same segment when he said he'd still start Pogba, I watched it and it was a pile of wank. He basically said he wouldn't start VDB because we don't need him, but he would start a trio of Matic Pogba and Bruno, which to me was a pile of BS.

This guy’s lack of minutes early on will pay off big time when he’s starting every game at the business end of the season.

It would be worrying if Ole is obsessed with him only be another option for Bruno. He could be tried in a few other positions to see how he is.

He'll probably start against RBL next game.

Hopefully he does, it's time to rest Bruno. We should try him on the right a la Mata.

Some of you should remember that not all players get going first game in and become a 90min per game stars. He will get his chances, our coaches work with them all every day and see who and when is ready. He isn't the first midfield player who have moved to new league and needs time to fit in.

if only we had a jam packed season, where we might play 60 games.
People always say this but in the majority of PL games + CL games it'll be the same starters if there are no injuries. Look at Liverpool, they have the likes of Jota, Minamino and Shaqiri but in the majority of games it's Salah-Mane-Firmino who start.

So if Ole thinks of him as just a squad player he'll have to do with many subs and a couple of starts in domestic cup games.

First of all, just because he doesn't cost 80 million doesn't mean he's not a player who can't reach the top. He's a player with the right profile - mentality combined with skill, also brings something else. He's very well rounded which means that some people won't rate him same way they didn't Herrera or other players who are jack of all trades. If Ole things we are short of that kind of player I believe him.

And yes I think he was probably an alternative to Jack Grealish who would cost much less had he been relegated with Villa.

Second of all, other positions are being worked on regardless, the money will be allocated for these players but it's the players which are not available, it doesn't make sense to overpay, we rarely do that and everytime we do that it bounces back and teams ask more money from us..
I see what you are saying but i am not sure what all positions are being worked on means, sounds a bit like woodward speak to me

People are focussing on the van der beek signing because its clear we are on a limited budget but we spent a significsnt part of our budget on a player who may not fit into the managers plans. I agree we shouldnt just buy players for the sake of it but yesterdays game highlighted the need for another wide player now (and not in 1-2 years). I think its reasonable to question why we didnt sign players who would obviously improve the positions we most needed to improve

I don't buy the idea that Ole didn't want him. If he doesn't start against RBL then there could be something going on.

I don’t really know what people were expecting. I thought we all mostly agreed he’s more than likely the new bench option. He is there so we don’t have to see Lingard and could punt on Perriera. Now I’m sure between now and end of season he’ll get plenty of chances and game time, but I do think he should have started yesterday. I would have put him in over James myself. Just has more guile about him.

He is not a substitute. He is better than most of the players who were on the pitch yesterday.

You can not be a sub player if those in the starting squad are worse than you.

This is just a case of a manager who hasn't got a clue whatsoever.

He changed the game against Newcastle and I think he would have been better to bring off the bench yesterday than Pogba.
