Donald Trump - GUILTY!

That's exactly where my mind went when this legal argument got raised. If somehow the SC said literally anything the President does - if he believes it is part of fulfilling his duty as President - is immune from prosecution, then Biden could just have Trump offed because he's clearly a credible threat to the nation. And if the SC went full bore and said it extends to when Trump is no longer President, well hey Obama could have some payback best served cold. But then I get scared of the Bushes. But a film about geriatric hitman and womaniser Bill Clinton...sounds fun!

This is just bonkers. If we go by that Sauer guy's reasoning, Joe Biden could try his luck in getting rid of Trump by calling in a platoon of unquestionably loyal US Navy SEALs to do this dirty job because Trump can be deemed as a threat to national security that must be eliminated.

Seriously though, do those silly lawyers ever think of a situation in reverse for a change?:wenger:

This is turning into a Monty python sketch…….
Stretches credulity but apparently this is real life!

Yeah, but they know that they can just take the opposing stance should they need to, and nobody will ever pull them up on the hypocrisy. Much like when RBG died a month before the 2020 election, they didn't have to live by the rule that they established when a supreme court justice died before the 2016 election.

Then to stay out of jail all Biden would have to do is to take out anyone in the senate that's about to start an impeachment process against him, because as long as he's not impeached it's legal for him to murder anyone he wants.

If these lawyers are charging more than $1/hour they're overpaid.

They would just say Biden couldn't do it because he stole the election and isn't really the President. Or some other nonsense

Live in front of the courthouse now. There is a guy across the street who has not stopped playing The Godfather's Theme with the trumpet for several minutes now.

First evidence the f;*cng media have learned nothing. 3 channels covered Trump's victim party live last night, with fact-checking only done after the airing as he lied, threatened and whined away.

Totally drowned out the fact that you know, he's going to be convicted of fraud, have Trump name shut down in the state of NY and be fined a massive amount. Nope, instead we get coverage like "Former President accuses NYAG of bias".

We're doomed with media like this.

This is why court hearings shouldn't be televised live. It's a great way for the accused to speak to the public rather than the court.

Just type 'feck,' it auto corrects to 'feck.'

Does not typically happen in court. If this was a criminal trial or a civil one sans Trump, such shenanigans would be kiboshed immediately & potentially with punishment levied by the judge.

Firstly there isn't going to be any conviction, it's a civil case not a criminal one, secondly Trump and his sons have already been determined to be guilty of fraud, this case is about what the penalty will be

Wannabe President announces he’s been endorced by a convicted mobster and murderer. Will be the funniest and saddest moment combined in one when you re-elect this guy in November:lol:

Watched about half of the Napoleon movie the other day. As part of me nerding out watching movies based on real history I spent some time on Wikipedia and came to the pictures of Napoleon's Tomb. When you look closely in one of them it looks like Trump and Melania being given a tour of it.

While I've felt this way long before - somehow seeing that and watching something about a bigger than life character than Napoleon that also showed a lot of unflattering takes about him - I couldn't help but think again that Trump surely sees all his shenanigans as some kind of way to place himself amongst the great rebels of world history who also demanded huge amounts of excess. People who portray themselves as being against the establishment while really just wanting the same thing. Napoleon fought against the royal family of France only to make himself royalty instead. Look at "man of the people" Trump with his golden toilets.

Fortunately we now live in a society where suppressing dissent with extreme violence and other unscrupulous methods are less passable but my only point is: if you frame his actions against what he probably see as somehow cementing some misplaced sense of legacy, it makes a tiny bit more sense.
