Dominic Calvert-Lewindowski | Newcastle bound?

I don't know how much he would cost but Solanke, for example, is a better player in my opinion (as an example from a smaller club/potentially cheap). Better with the ball at his feet and bringing others into play.

I also think Everton would still try to have our pants down and ask for £40m for him.
I really like Solanke, but he’d cost more now it looks like they might stay up. Also he’d want to play not be backup

He's still good at holding the ball up but he's lost his ability in front of goal tremendously. He was a bit Nunez like anyway in that he needed a few more chances than most strikers to score but yeah, it's sad. He was on a great trajectory before those injuries.

With how our medical department has been the last number of years I would doubt he would ever be fit enough to be a back up option for us if he was here.

It's rumoured Wilson will leave.

You probably can't afford his wages but that's the short term signing who'd be very decent for Everton.

Newcastle certainly can't carry all of Isak, DCL and Wilson with no European football to offer.

No idea who the kid is but relying on Chermitti and Beto would be very risky so would expect you to get in an experienced CF in next two months.

Is this one of those dodgy deals to get around PSR?

Sure someone in the clique will be doing Newcastle a favour soon.

He is a great signing in FM to be fair.

I think this might be a go with Minteh coming the other way to us.

DCL is in the last year of his contract, we offered him a deal and he's probably refused it. With clubs circling that are at a better level currently and have better prospects of Europe it makes sense that he wants his last big contract to be at a club doing that and not Everton which is still in a weird red zone.

Modern day Darren Anderton….aka Sicknote.

Replacing Callum Wilson with someone even more injury prone!

Seems quite a significant downgrade on Wilson based on the last couple of years. If he can stay fit and re-discover his form from 4 years ago, then he’s a good player but hard to see any basis for thinking that will be the case.

So Everton need money. But they feel they are being lowballed on offers. Something gotta give soon!

No club will pay 40 mill for DCL. 14 league goals in 3 season and 27 years old

No we don't need money. Far from it. Our ownership is finally about to be sorted and in nrext years accounts we have a new huge shirt deal (£20m + a season from Castore, up from £8m) and very likely to have a naming rights deal for the stadium (Toyota)

Our PSR worries are gone after the Dobbin transfer.

We are now spending cash, just had a £20m bid accepted for the lad at Marseille.

He looked a good prospect a number of years ago but be never really kicked on, with injuries playing a huge part in that.

The context of him being made of glass?

Not really. He barely missed any games last season. One of the only injuries he was out with was his broken cheekbone which was a freak accident. Others were due to illness or due to time off because of becoming a father.

He had two seasons of terrible injury woes but Dyche has managed to sensibly manage and work up his fitness.
The context doesn’t make him any more desirable

I'm not sure why not. He plays currently in a side which creates barely anything. It was shown when he has creative outlets behind and around him he's capable of being a 15-20 goal a season player. Remove all creativity around someone and they'll struggle to perform as well in certain departments.

Everton massively underperformed their xG last season. If the excuse for his lack of goals isn't "he was injured" it's simply that "he missed loads of chances". His individual xG also bears out with that, showing he should have scored around twice as many goals as he actually did.

Him staying fit last season also doesn't really change the fact that he's got a clear history of injury issues.

He's got a year left on his contract, is clearly not in great goal scoring form, and it remains a gamble whether he's actually over his injury issues. £40 million is a silly fee for him in this context.

He scored 4 and assisted 1 at the back end of the season in 7 games coinciding with our good form. It's no coincidence that his best form also relates to our best form. He bullied Van Dijk when we played against them and his quality to the side is not just goals or assists but the out ball he gives to us.

Injuries are one of those things that you can't put a marker on. It could be a sign that he will always be plagued by them or it's a sign that he had a horrible two years but he's over it now and managed them.

I don't disagree that, when fit, he adds a lot of value to Everton's side, but given the discussion is about a transfer deal falling through over cost, I'm still struggling to see why a club would spend £40 million (or more) on him.
  • One purple patch of form, across half a dozen(ish) games, in the last three seasons
  • Massive question marks over his ability to remain fit
  • 27-years-old, so possible he's already peaked
  • One year left on his contract
If your issues with PSR are sorted, I think this ultimately makes sense for both clubs. He's not really worth what you'd want for him, and it makes little sense for you to sell him for less.

I think 40m is overpriced but I don't think a 20+10m type deal is. I think it's a gamble but also the type of deal that could be a bargain.

I think even £30 million is too much for him at this stage, but it's certainly a more attractive prospect than £40.

Is it likely he'll sign a new deal at some point, or is it basically sell him now or he goes on a free?
