Bugger off!

I was discussing this with my mate in the pub after the game on Saturday. All going well with injuries (could it get worse?), I don't think we need, or indeed will buy anyone in January. I know Fergie has been given all-clear to splash the cash, but I just don't think the right players are available.

Maybe its too much of a risk to take though. Time will tell.

I think we'll sign Escudé in the summer though, and possibly another defender.

Agreed, we need another fullback and Blanc will be gone too.

Just saw this at the official site:

Spending can wait as good times roll for Fergie
Sir Alex Ferguson has decided not to enter the transfer race when the European trading window opens next month because of Manchester United’s Premiership revival. The Old Trafford boss has admitted on several occasions this season that his squad lacks genuine depth in key areas, and the unprecedented spate of injuries at the club stretched resources to the limit at times. But as Ferguson’s team prepares to build on recent victories against Arsenal and Liverpool by welcoming back key players for the winter programme, the Scot has decided to observe, rather than enter, the scramble for new signings when the market re-opens on January 1.

But we Keano is coming back, Butt also will back around x'mas, Phil also played very well as a dm. We still need another midfieider.

Besides, dont forget our young stars like Richardson....

...I think we need Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Zidane, Viera and maybe Rivaldo and Ronaldinho as back up for the right and left back positions.....hahaha

Forgive me, but by personal diagnosis is wrong. I am no longer a lazy arse with a drink problem, but a idiot savant with gender issues.
Hmmmm.....too much information I'm thinking. To be honest I'm at a loss and I'm waiting for the chemicals to kick in blah blah blah.
Have we ever bought a player December/January in recent years who has done the buisnes?
Nope, can't think of any Winter wonders.
I'm so bored I'm thinking does Colina(?) the bald Italian ref ever get tempted to wear a wooly hat?

IMO we need a defender and a striker...

Has anyone thought about having James Beattie at the end of a Beckham cross.....he is only 23 and can only become better.

Defence wise someone who plays like Stam or Sol Campbell would really toughen up our defence.

What do U guys out there think????

We would only need a defender if Silvestre does not sign an extension to his contract.

We need another striker.

I'm worried. It is taking too long to conclude Silvestre deal. May be he now wants the CB role again :( .

<img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> a striker and a winger/striker, but someone great not just good like Gud*** or another forlan.. A Duff a cisse <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
Fullback? O'shea can fill in at left and Brown at right. ;)

The only sane argument is striker or defender? Becuase given the Scrooge/Mr. Burns stance of the PLC it won't be both.
Let's break it down.
What kind of striker do we need if any? My answer would be an understudy to Ruud. In Forlan and Solskjaer we have lively adaptable forward players. What we are crying out for is another physical prescence up front. Given our budget, it's difficult. Somebody young and strong, potentially able to play as lone striker...it's difficult isn't it..any suggestions?
We play a one up front system now and Van is the man. So all the talk of Shevchenko(?) Cisse and the like is pie in the sky. What we need is a youngish understudy or a veteran(Batistuta?) to rotate with Nistelrooy.

Defender?... full-back of course, but which flavour? Tricky. O'Shea has complicated things and made things better at the same time. But ideally we still need more quality cover for both full-back sides.

However, if we buy just one player in January the priority must be cover for Ruud.
Frankly I think we'll muddle through and buy no-one.

Has to be John O'Shea. ;)

"We're very thin at striker, and LB. An injury to Ruud or Mickey and we're effectively fecked".

Spot on re Ruud, but we have young JOS who is more than a replacement at LB for Mickey, also P Neville can fill in at LB. I think we need to channel any available funds we have into aquiring a front man.

Its no secret we need another striker, but i'd also like to see a top class winger come in.
Giggs is 29 and has been playing at the top level for over 10 years. That is a lot of wear and tear on the body. His pace has noticably suffered, not suprising considering the amount of hamstring problems he's had.
Becks isn't a winger in the truest sense of the word, although his ability to cross the ball is second to none he doesn't have the pace to run at defenders and scare the shit out of them.

There's a few strikers about who i'd like to see come to us: Shevchenko, Kliuvert, Rooney, DeFoe etc. As for genuine wingers they are pretty thin on the ground, Maybe Duff or Recoba (haven't seen much of him though) Maybe someone like Joe Cole, isn't naturally a winger but has the pace and the skill.
