Oldboy was disturbing for the last 40 minutes.
That scene from Casino is one of those rare things which is both disturbing and extremely difficult to watch (the sound of the baseball bats really gets to me), but brilliantly shot.
Another would be the rape scene from Irreversible...quite horrific. I would say realistic, but pray to God I never have to find out for myself.

I agree, mental scene. Others. . . .err, The spider walk in Exorcist, anything in Visitor Q and Ichi, curb scene in American History X, Chainsaw scene in Scarface er. . .
Visitor Q; pretty much the whole film was disturbing.
Really? I would say quirky...
To be disturbing a scene needs to be related to reality, and Visitor Q was way too far out to be real for me.

Yeah good call; Three....Extremes lived up to its name. Oldboy was up there; i think though the only movie i actually stopped watching midway through is Cannibal Holocaust which was very uneasy.
Well, the same can be said for anything that's OTT. Scarface was clearly OTT as was Ichi, in fact it was as way out as Visitor Q but it still had some disturbing scenes. I suppose Irreversible is probably the best example, though. The rest can be described as cringeworthy if not disturbing.

Just watched Evil Dead last night and that scene where the possessed girl stabs another in the ankle. Not so much about the over-gore but the thought of the pain that would cause.
The one Hellraiser where the girl has her skin ripped off while in air and is still alive before being ingested into that statue thing. Come to think of it, I could probably find quite a few disturbing things about Hellraiser.

The whole film was disturbing; the rape scene went on for ages but then there was that bizarre recurring noise around the "beginning" of the film.
The Three... Extremes version was worse, I think.
Dumplings was very OTT but connected to reality... Such things probably do go on, there was a case in Taiwan when I was a kid.
Oh... Faces of Death series, whether fake or not. The guy jumping from the building and bouncing.

That one was the first one I thought of when I read the title of the thread. It was horrific.
Another one is from Misery, when she breaks his legs. I have only seen it once, but it haunted me for years, so I bought the DVD and it's still in the plastic...
Salo is the most disgusting movie after made it was based on Sade's 120 Days of Sodom, watched it for a class a year back

After Googling this Cannibal Holocaust, I must see this film. Is it available at your local Blockbuster or privately owned movie rental store?

Doubt it, a specialty film store might have it to buy, a lot of it is on youtube anyway
Sometimes see it on Ebay...but likely to be a heavily cut version.

Agree, that had my girlfriend in tears and left a lump in my throat too. The scene where the guy gets his head smashed in wasnt the best either.
I downloaded it ages ago to see what all the fuss was about, i must say i did regret it afterwards.
believe me, you dont want to do a thing like that, it has a scene where they are having a banquet of turds..you can practically taste the crap as you watch this scene

I haven't seen Irreversible and this thread makes think I made a very good decision on that..

That rape scene from Irreversible is probably the single most disturbing film scene I've ever seen. The fire extinguisher one deserves a mention also. Good film, never watching it again.
the most disturbing thing about this is the fact that the turtle was still moving even after geting it's head chopped off!!!
