There are some shockers about but Rod Stewart's utter destruction of the Tom Waites song Downtown Train takes some beating.

There seems to be an annoying trend of covering songs with a breathy, weedy female voice backed by just a piano. Strip a song down to to the basic elements by all means, but don't bore the shit out of everyone with a saccarine-sweet, soppily inane redition of it. Prime example (not that I'm a fan of the original):

That is dire but wasn't Carey's version a dire cover version of the original? Bad Company was it?

The original is pretty damn good, especially in comparison.

Guns and Roses have butchered a song or three in their time. Yet I can't bring myself to hate them any more than I can bring myself to hate Cheryl Crows version of one of their songs. Weird.

Madonna -American Pie.

How could you make a cover more cringeworthy than the original?

Apart from Nirvana "The Man who Stole the World" And Muse "Feeling Good" I can think of no non-dire cover's

Has anyone else noticed how every single Bob Dylan cover is way better than the original? Guns n Roses-Knockin on heavens door
Jimi Hendrix-All along the watchtower
Neil Young-Just like tom thumbs blues
The white Stripes - one more cup of coffee

and hundreds more

Like every other Beatle cover. Or pretty much those who aren't the most famous ones when the Beatles performed them.

Eddie Vedder - You've got to Hide your love away.

This one is just awful

Girls Aloud - Walk This Way
Megadeth - No More Mr. Nice Guy

We're about to fall out ;)

To be fair Dylan is an outstanding songwriter................He just shouldn't perform them ;)
