Diogo Dalot (Out)

Personally, I'd say yes.

Just 1 year younger than Wan-Bissaka but will never challenge him, he's pretty poor defensively. Opens the door for Laird and even Williams to have more game time at RB.

Did they miss a decimal point? He’s done nothing for us and doesn’t look like a very good footballer.

If we can get close to that figure, absolutely. He’s never going to get the RB spot ahead of AWB and he’s not shown any top tier potential here anyway.

Sorry but I wouldn't mind him going. He seemed like a good prospect when we got him in but that was before AWB came in. Hes been played everywhere and hasn't cemented a position that he looks best in.

For the rumoured €35m, I'd say it was good business getting him and letting him go so soon.

Probably for the best. He came in with loads of promise, but has never really shown why. At least Laird can get some game time, and Williams can cover both full back positions. I've no ill will towards him though, that PSG handball will be about the extent of his legacy here.

I still think he has potential (he's still only 21 after all) but I could understand him being sold.

There's no point needlessly weakening ourselves though. Do we have a second choice RB we're happy with?

Laird?

He'll go to PSG and probably be their sub goalie. I'm certain PSG's transfer strategy is just throwing darts at names.

Nope. He's very talented and not all full backs at that age are as consistent as AWB. Now if he doesn't improve over the next couple of seasons and Laird makes an impression then sure, but at this point we would be stupid to have only one RB and a "maybe" from the youth.

He hasn’t really done much at the club but I’d keep him for what it’s worth we don’t really need to be worrying about another position unless Laird is going to make the step up.

Is he ready to step up to being a regular in first team squad? That's a genuine question btw, I haven't seen enough of him to know.
He has 2 appearances at professional level so of course not. First he has to prove himself before we rely on him as a backup, like Williams did before letting go of Young.

And throwing darts at names not even in the same position, apparently. Imagine getting Dalot as you 2nd choice goalie

So Dalot isn't also a maybe? If that figured is true then we better sell because he honestly isn't worth that amount right now. Laird and Williams who are 'maybes' like Dalot can play RB

35m? Take that - we have WBA and Ethan Laird and can bring in another for far less. Dalot isn't that good even for his age.

I doubt it's true but i wouldn't want to sell him yet. He's young and AWB is better, but we need backup and it would be good to have some actual competition in a position for a change.

I wouldn’t mind, I’ve felt that he is entering the borrowed time category, either this summer or next. Laird will quickly move ahead of him if he stays fit. That said, it can all change in one year for him. So if we opted to give him one more year to see, I’d have nothing against that.

He has a lot more experience at the professional level, you know what i meant. Laird is not in the same category as Brandon either, the later has proven he can handle the pressure and as a result we let Young go.

That should be less of a concern when you compare him to Dalot who also isn’t ready to be a regular in our first team squad and is never fit to be in it anyway.

I don't think we have the luxury of giving him more time, not if we can get a decent fee for him that can be used on improving what we have.

I think he’d be worth keeping. Development has been haunted with the amount of injuries he has had but I do think he would be a handy player to keep. He’s probably the best crosser out of the 4 and possibly the best going forward.
defensively I don’t think he’s that bad. It’s not his best quality and he can improve but just takes time.

Brandon Williams can rotate into that slot. So we have a half. Laird is a prospect that can potentially but not today.

I can't see any club paying anywhere close to that. Just bullshit rumours but at least it gives us something different to discuss rather than the virus news.

He’s got potential but to be honest at the same time he’s not great defensively and doesn’t set the world alight going forwards either.

He’s a strange one, can’t say I think he’s rubbish but it’s almost at times like he’s playing out of position in the way he seems to be in and out of the game. Odd.

Experience or no experience he's as much as a maybe as Laird. It's not even because of his quality I think we should sell him. If the suggested price is true, we'd be stupid not to sell

Wouldn't miss him. Not great at either end of the pitch and disastrous in defence. 35m would be daylight robbery.

an no Varela did not look better than him.

My memory is muddy but I think I would agree.

I think both players are similar in the sense that they are pretty poor defensively but in terms of output offensively, they seem more comfortable. I feel Varela genuinely was pretty technically solid. Think he had 2 assists in Rashford's premier league debut vs Arsenal.

I've not really seen the hype when it comes to Dalot and a lot of posters on this forum suggesting he should be playing RW.

Varela looked like a better player than him.

That one still upsets me. He was brilliant offensively, great dribbler and crosser. A little more patience in him and who knows what he’d have become. But alas, Coutinho skipped past him once and he was cast aside.

He was at the club for 4 years. He was definitely not brilliant offensively.

You're talking about a player that has been a professional footballer for 10 years and has less than 100 appearances in club football. I swear rose tinted glasses and nostalgia is a hilarious thing.

Think we will regret it and some people saying yes will bash the club for selling him. Very talentwd player on the ball. There aren't many RBs that talented. When he's able to complement that positionally, he'll be some player.

He's just at the wrong club tbh. I can see him do well at a bigger/better club who are more ball dominant. The profile of managers we hire and our fanbase in general shit it whenever they see a full-back leave his half.

I don’t care about what he’s done since he left us. He came as an academy player, so this ‘he was here for 4 years’ is misleading. I said at the time that I didn’t want him to go, I’m far from a ‘rose tinted’ poster.
