Diogo Dalot - next move?

Let Milan have him for another year. They pay his wages and we get an extra year of development for free. He's not a complete waste of effort, there's still potentially a good player in there.

Isn't this what a lot of people on here have been calling for? A more attacking option who can start against the "Smaller" teams? (Can play on either flank too). It's basically him or Brandon and I'm not really sure why we're even considering Trippier. Good player but we have options already already at the club in my opinion.

They probably would, but doubtful they have the money - even though he's cheap - given they seem to be flogging Neves, Moutinho is not getting any younger, so they face a midfield reconstruction, and who knows how Jimenez gets on. They're probably banking on signing more of them from Portugal for pittance and turning a huge profit.

No idea whether this is credible or not, saying Ancelotti might see him as an option. He's in the shop window at least.

The whole Trippier chase clearly means Ole doesn't fancy him, at least not for next season anyway, and we're going to need to make some money through sales this summer.

Even if we don't get what we paid, we could still have a tasty sell-on clause, or even a buy-back clause like we had for Memphis allegedly.

That makes no sense. With a year left on his contract we'd be screwed. They should buy him if they have a need for him in their squad. Thay aren't Brentford ffs. We should absolutely tell them to feck off and make a proper bid. For him and his agent, if you want a player that's played football and not wasted two of his development years in the reserves then find a club willing to pay a transfer fee.
 
He’s still very young and has a chance to develop into a good player. I’d have little issue with him being back up here after his experience in Milan. Of course, I’d shed no tears if he were sold either, but he has a chance to come good.
 
Why not keep him? United spending any amount of money for a backup RB to me would be ridiculous.

AWB is the week in-week out starter and he’s continually improving the attacking side of his game in terms of joining the attack. Trippier for £25m? Why though haha. 1) it puts a dent in our transfer budget and 2) have Dalot who can offer similar offensive traits as Trippier for free.

...especially considering the backup RB the team is looking to bring in would more so be for late game if we ever need a goal, Dalot more than enough is good enough to offer that element. Imo, loan out Williams since he’s still a raw prospect and see if Dalot can prove he deserves to stay (albeit if he’s given a chance/appearances since that wasn’t the case under Olé before AKA hard to prove yourself if you aren’t given playing time). Then take things in stride from there..

We're not likely to spunk 25m on Trippier though. And you said it yourself, AWB is week-in, week-out. Where would that leave Dalot? Wasting his fundamental years to develop. It makes sense to get a more experienced player in who isn't going to demand a guaranteed place in the team, in that sense, it would help if they can play more than one position. But they could still get 20 games at right back.

Maybe not, was just going off the quoted fees heard out there. I still don’t see why it can’t be Dalot. He seems like a specialist that you can bring on in certain points in games to give you an extra edge. I don’t see him being a full time starter on any serious/big club so not guaranteeing that to him shouldn’t be a problem.

And like it’s being reported the team wants an attacking option just for the sake of having one, just like Dalot keep specializing in that area of his game and prove himself over next season. Sink or swim time in terms of if the club will be able to trust him if he stays for the upcoming year. Literally have a ready made player in that mould of an attacking player type that they’re looking for under contract. Seems like it should be the only logical conclusion.
 
A lot of people really dislike Dalot. I don't get why though, I never really thought he was that bad when at United.

He never really got a good string of games together so I guess couldn't show his best.

Trippier is over rated IMO, either give Dalot a chance and put that money towards another area of the pitch or Sell AWB, buy big and have Dalot as back up.

I didn't know he only had one year left, but the point remains. He's potentially a decent player and he's ours, we should not let him go too easily.
 
We’re trying to sign an attacking right back who’ll be a squad player at best with AWB as undisputed first choice whilst trying to sell an attacking right back who’ll be happy to play a squad role ?

I’d personally keep Dalot as AWB’s back up next season if we can’t sell him for a decent fee then sign a right back as well as a striker in the summer of 2022, we’ve got priority positions this summer (Sancho, a centre back and a defensive midfielder) that NEED to be sorted and right back isn’t one of them although it can certainly be upgraded on.

No I meant if we sent him on loan for a year he'd come back with only a year left.

He’s grown into it, I think. Looked a bit nervous to begin with, understandably, but I think he’s making more use of his ability to run with the ball. He and Silva could form a good partnership on the right there.
 
honestly don’t see the problem with trying to develop him instead of spending 40 million on a backup. If he doesn’t kick on sell up and use laird the following season and so on… he’s happy to get forward and that’s what we are supposedly looking for….

he’s been at United 3 years? Presume he has 2 years left in his contract? Send him out in another loan, and there’s no way he signs another contract - so even if good enough (which I don’t think he is), we probably need to offload him this summer to get a half decent fee for him.

He isnt good enough is the problem, and we dont need to spend 40m

He should be gone, along with Martial, Lingard, Periera + 1 or 2 more.

I don’t know who we could get that would be cheap, good enough and also happy to sit on the bench for 2/3 of the season when Ole possibly pulls a Williams/Telles on them. He might not be good enough to be a regular starter for us but he’s a decent backup and I think he’s a more aggressive attacker than AWB. He was pretty good for Milan against us and he’s not hiding here tonight either.
