I agree. The first one was pretty excellent, but it was slightly over the top as it was just himself, still a classic.
The second was decent to an extent, but the plot was fairly poor and the action scenes just wasn't good enough.
The third was fantastic, some brilliant acting by both leading actors and the plot line was superb. It left enough space for action and entertainment, as well as a serious and interesting theme throughout the movie. Can't help but look back at Die Hard 3 as one of my favourite movies.
