Did Spurs try for Rio Ferdinand?

I only tuned in halfway through so not sure really.

Thanks for bumping this Que, I was just looking for somewhere to post on this.

The Geezer in question was one Matt Scott from the Guardian, and a self-confessed gooner.

His line was (as best as I got it) 'Manchester United have only got better...If they do let Rio Ferdinand go to Spurs and the more I hear the more I think that probabably is going to happen...they've just replaced him with Phil Jones...'

Scott said this on the All Sports Show near the end (16:00-16:30 at 12:40 of 29:59).

ridiculous..we lost neville, van der sar, and scholes, might lose brown and o'shea as well. that's 4 or 5 very experience players, with huge influence in the dressing room..

we need rio's experience more than ever now.
That to me is the main reason why we won't sell Rio yet. The youngsters coming through will need good United-style leadership from the dressing room and that's where he's invaluable at the moment.

It has the whiff of a gooner trying to stir it up in the face of their dreadful past couple of weeks tbh.

I've heard nothing about this in any other place and can you see Spurs breaking their wage structure for Rio? Considering they have been so badly burnt with the Woodgate/King pairing I just dont see a move for Rio who is, lets face it, getting up there.

At United Rio can still be first choice, has good cover, and does the job. Seems like the perfect place to stay I think.

what a crap rumour and even bizarre that some united fans think we should sell Rio just because of his injuries woes....

on the pitch issues aside, what about accounting aspects?
I read somewhere that on the club's balance sheet berbatov is valued at around 7.5m so if he is sold for anything more than that, the club would 'in accounting terms' make a profit. (assuming that the 31m - 7.5m were included in depreciation since berbatov joined us).
I would assume that rio's position is the same...and most probably rio's value on the club's balance sheet is even less than 7.5m.

Lol... this couldn't be further from the truth. Many people have said it already above.
