worked it out. I got to move forward into the second room as well it seems.
Ok, so my guess is, in a normal strike there are two 'respawn restricted' areas. If one player enters that area while the other two stay behind, it treats it as though only one person is playing (it often comes up with last guardian standing). This must be the same thing, because I was the only one within a certain area, when I died, it treated it as game over. No idea how on earth this is possible if this is the case though, unless the shrieked no longer spawns or something.
Ah sorry, I wasn't on the caf at the time. Destiny was fecked up a bit when I was on earlier anyway (looks like the connection problems Bungie tweeted about).
You should be fine doing VoG etc with us. Almost got enough for two raid teams I think.
So it seems as though the shrieker only spawns for a certain amount of time and then despawns. The best method seems to be to stay out of the big room and just run back out of the shrieker room when it appears.

It is handy to have, just for these type of missions where you are camped and just plugging away

To be fair that's what annoys me too. The higher your level gets the less rewarding it is grinding for hours imo.

@Ducklegs I think the best plan is to stay in the room at the start and just retreat whenever the shrieker appears and wait for it to despawn.
