Departures Summer Transfer Window 2014

Valencia and Young can actually defend and do something as wingbacks, in fact Young has looked far better in this position than he has done in years. Nani Kagawa can only attack and we simply don't have a role for them in the team anymone, not even if we played 4-3-3.

Umm...but the defence still looked shaky with both young and valencia on and we were unable to score more goals with them on.

I would say Valencia can up to a point but not Young.

The defence looked shaky because of alot of reasons, the first one being that they all still need to adept to the system, the second being that Evans had a stinker and ofcourse Blackett is still learning, he is young and obviously will make learning mistakes and ofcourse the cover from the midfield with just Fletcher and Mata and Di maria infront of them was virtually unexistant. I don't think Young and Valencia were the primary reason the defence looked shaky (and they kept a clean sheet so how shaky were they really), there are alot of different aspects.

Anyway i'am not advocating Valencia and Young should be in the starting eleven, I think Shaw and Rafael should be in there, but they prodive decent cover together with Lingard. Whilst Kagawa, Nani really didn't have a purpose here anymore, with Januzaj, Di Maria, Mata and us not really using traditional wingers anymore in this sytem we didn't need them anymore, not even for cover.

Can't believe Welbeck deal to Arsenal is a permanent move not a loan … and to a direct rival.

This might come back and bite us!

Gutted about Welbeck leaving, especially permanently and another example of Utd selling poorly. He was under valued (in this market, English player and striker with champs league experience) and sold to a rival, a direct rival that require a striker urgently and we just gave them what they needed. Think he'll go on to be a top success at Arsenal and be first choice by end of the season.

Its good for him and pleased for him, but at tricky place now as I clearly don't want him to do well to our detriment which it would be.

Think this was a mistake, even if we sold to Spurs it would have been better. Surprised we didnt loan him to someone for a year. His price for me would never be lower than 16mil with his experience even if he had a bad year on loan. If he had a brilliant year with RVP ageing potentially he could have then come back and been first choice for us. I'd have rather sold Hernandez and loaned Welbeck. Shame, he offered us something different.

Clearly I'm delighted about Falcao and if it was a choice him or Danny then there's an obvious winner. But never like letting home grown talent go especially when he's been in or around the first team for a good few years now and played well in some big games for us.

Fees and wages off books for this year = £74.66m.

So we saved more from wages than fees (perhaps not surprising with amount of loàns) not only does that show how massive the effect wages can have, but just shows the sheer amount we were spending on players who rarely played.

Now, to not upset the precious @GlastonSpur i dont wamt you to all think im 'willingly deceiving you' to think we are suddenly 71m richer. Clearly you may not have realised we have spent some money on some minnows like some de mary guy and some guy with a weird nivkname...the 'falcon' or something weird.

Now, @GlastonSpur got quite upset about this yesterday, so i have to tell you that these people we bought...wait for it...cost money. We also have to pay them a weekly wage!

So lets see how much we have 'net spent' this summer.

Out £74.66m

In:
Shaw 27m (50k)
Herera 29m (80k)
Rojo 16m (70k)
ADM 59.7m (150k)
Falcao 6m (265k)
Blind 13.8m (75k)

Fees: 151.5m (net -116.1m)
Wages 690k (net +60k)

Overall for year net spend of 112.98m.

Updated for cleverley. Means we have actually reduced our weekly wage bill by 60k per week.

Cleverley was widely reported to be on 30k a week, where's the 70k figure come from? Spanish sources (who broke the Falcao move) also say we are paying him 185k a week.
