Whatever happens, there are always things you coul
I watched this movie a couple of months after it came out and I was blown away by it. Truly sick actor, I never liked dicaprio but after departed...wow, this guy is a fecking sick actor, he was also really really good in gangs of new york. Anyways, it showing departed on the movie network here in canada and I've watched twice now in the same day again (I know what a loser but whatever). This movie has to be in my top 10 movies for sure. Jack Nicholson was amazing in it too.

I presume by "Truly sick" and "fecking sick" you mean good?

And if so, no. Merely not as shit as he has been in most things he has been in before and at least he now looks like he might make it out of puberty before he retires. The film is also ordinary and nowhere near as good as the original. Nicholson overacts horribly as is now normal for him. He has become a caricature of himself.

i too thought the movie was average. worth a watch though. i preferred di caprio's performance in blood diamond, good movie that!

A very good film but doesn't quite achieve greatness IMO because it's a remake of a Hong Kong flick. Check out the original version Infernal Affairs and the 2 sequels and you'll see that the bulk of the films' appeal comes from the very tight script which also brings outstanding performances out of Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Anthony Wong and most surprisingly for me Eric Tsang (in the Nicholson role).

Also Dropkick Murphys are fecking shit, someone needs to strangle them to death or something

I watched it and thought it was good but then I watched it a few weeks ago when a mate brought it over and thought it was ordinary. Could have been so much better.
A really good film is A Guide To Recognising Your Saints, watch that lads, excellent story and brilliantly acted

DiCaprio is a good actor. Mark Wahlberg is even better.

DiCaprio was just about tolerable in The Departed and Bllod Diamond. Before those two he was diabolical in everything he was in with the possible exceptions of Rome + Juliette and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Wahlberg is OK but like so many "actors" these days basically plays himself in every movie.

One of the greatest actors ever. The guy is a genius.

He was also good in Catch me if you can, Marvin's room, the beach and the Aviator. I think a lot of people give him the beckham treatment. Gets a lot of criticism only because he was so insanely popular during the Titanic days.

Walhberg has been the victim of some poor scripts .

Walhberg is more of a man-on-the-street figure, thats why i think he will appeal to mere and more audiences, as for departed i think it is o.k but a little bit too slow-paced

I dislike all of those except for The Aviator which i avoided solely because he was in it. I don't dislike him for his success. Just hos lack of talent. Same with Nicholas Cage.

Almost all of them at the last count. Although somehow he manages to not be utterly hateable.

I disagree about Cage. Leaving Las Vegas was a stunning performance. He isn't brave enough with his film choices overall, but that film proved he could act.

I didn't like it much at the cinema. Watched it again recently and enjoyed it a little more.

guess I'm the only one that puts it up on a pedestal. I haven't checked out the hong kong flick as bury red mentioned, but I will make sure to do so. The reason I like departed and dicaprio in it is because I truly hated him in titanic and as for aviator I hated him in it also. I always thought he was garbage until I saw departed last year. I haven't seen blood diamond but people have said it was good movie, so I guess I will watch it if I have time.

I thought it was good and thought Nicholson's character was very well done, very cool.

True Di Caprio was a tit in Titanic. It did seem that all his popularity was due to his dying sweetheart role and good looks. The Aviator was watchable though, along with Catch Me If You Can.

Agreed, I wasn't impressed with it, certainly didn't think it was fecking sick(!)

I'd forgotten he was in Blood Diamond, he gives a good performance in it and it's a pretty good film if a bit formulaic with its political stance and tugs at the heart strings.

It's good that Hollywood is now actually making films like this and Syriana but too many Hollywood softsoaps of serious political issues and people are going to become blase about the real issues at hand. As a straight up action film to kill a couple of hours (I watched it on a plane) it can't really be faulted though.

I disagree about Cage. Leaving Las Vegas was a stunning performance. He isn't brave enough with his film choices overall, but that film proved he could act.

A decent film but he was just playing himself again. So many modern actors, Cage, Cruise, Nicholson and even De Niro and Pacino, now just play themselves reading the lines in everything they do. You never see the character they are meant to be.

Di Caprio, despite his fag-tag, is quite the excellent actor.

Check him in 'the Aviator.' Great film.

He was good in Wild at Heart and all. Can't think of anymore.

Cruise is shite, though. The rest on your list are brilliant actors, despite being a bit long in the tooth.

Yeah but he did a good film once, 17 years ago, though

Yeah, but he didn't really have that big a role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

As for Leonardo DiCraprio, well let's just say one of the reasons why I enjoed the departed so much was his grisly demise. Cnut.

Watched it recently and didn't like it. Found it quite boring. Haven't seen the original but this one had the potential to be much better. The ending was spastic as well. And the last scene with the rat was pathetic.

Not enough chipmunks in this film either

You don't think the film was sorely lacking chipmunks?

Wasn't aimed at you. Although, I have to agree. It probably did lack chipmonks. (Or chimpanzee-monkeys as they're commonly known to the scientific community.)

I agree, but Hollywood is way too safe in every area these days. How many truly challenging roles are out there? People want to see Cruise being Cruise etc etc.

I thought Cruise was fantastic in Vanilla Sky, but it flopped. No Cruise fan wants to watch him deformed, and no non-Cruise fan will go near any of his movies anyway.

No, I've already asked Michael Barrymore to invite them to one of his pool parties

No offence mate but I was disgusted with him portraying an Irishman who couldnt even clinched his fist. He didnt convince me at all, in fact he ruined the film! Dicaprio wasnt convincing at all and poor choice for leading role. He was wimpish, fragile and couldnt fight - what was the point!

Scorcese made a big bollox out of the concept too in my opinion. He spent years developing the script but waited for the right actors/actresses just to bring the numbers in through the box-office! A good film is a good film. People will come to see it! There's many fantastic upcomin actors out there that are fresh to the movie going public, they would convince me more than some bloke from Titanic - which is a big pile of ship ;)

The concept being Gangs of New York..... centered around the Irish territories. There's no need for a love story, especially featuring Cameron Diaz aka Hollywoods American Girl next door playing a prostitute. You'd be lucky to get the tit off that one, nevermind convince me she'll go all the way. It didnt work for me at all. Its only a means of attracting a wider audience instead of artistic expression in line with the theme of the story!

If they were gonna throw in a love story, he should of hired a not-so-well-known actress to play that role as the script for her was absolute shite anyway and a upcomin actress would of been a little more interesting, well for me anyway!

Why did Scorcese kill off the Priest?! He was a fantastic character and it didnt take a genius to that work out. He should of killed off Dicaprio and Diaz in my opinion and just had loadsa men beating the shit outta each other!

Di Caprio is clearly a superb actor. You just hate him for some reason.Clearly as well.

Wahlberg is decent.

Cage is good.

Cruise is shit.

Infernal Affairs was brilliant. Remember watching it when i was in Hong Kong on the tele; the sequels were a let down though. The Departed was very good as well.

Departed ain't half as good as any of the Scorsese classics. Basically an over-recognised film by the Academy to give him an award which they somehow managed to avoid for long

The movie good but for those things Wibble said, especially regarding Jack Nicholson who these days ain't arsed to turn up

I'm not a fan of DiCaprio but I liked The Basketball Diaries. Mark Wahlberg is in that as well, incidentally.

I wasn't calling them shit. Just prone to playing themselves these days. When you see any of them in a film you don't see the character, you see the actor reading lines. No matter how well they do this it spoils the film. I don't know if it is lazyness or ego or ????
