Demba Ba

I can see a lot of teams try to tap him up.

Everton, Newcastle, Spuds (maybe), Stoke, QPR

the question is how dodgy is his knee?

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew wants to snap up Demba Ba from West Ham on a free transfer as he tries to beat arch-rivals Sunderland to his signature.

Pardew has been alerted to the Senegalese striker’s availability - and eagerness to stay in the Premier League after the Hammers' relegation - and is putting a lucrative deal together.

Ba has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave and is fielding offers from other clubs before informing the *relegated outfit that he wants out, as he is not keen on spending a season in the Championship.

Sunderland are also *interested in Ba too, but he is just one of several targets that Steve Bruce has earmarked for a summer spend.

Newcastle are more focused on landing him though, as they try to replace Andy Carroll without spending a fortune.

The Geordies have had a bid for Lorient’s Kevin Gameiro rejected and are unwilling to match the £10million-plus asking price.

However they would throw a lot of money at Ba to land him without a transfer fee.

I saw this story linked elsewhere. How can he be on a free 6 months after joing for £7m quid or so? They didn't include a clause that allowed him to leave for free if they got relegated, did they?

Would be a great signing for Newcastle. If they snap him, Cabaye and somehow keep Ben Arfa (any word on that?) then they could be looking at a top 6-8 spot.

This is West Ham we are talking about. The club that gave Dyer a 2 year contract for 60k a week after he had missed almost 1.5 years due to injuries. Anything is possible with that clueless lot.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ba has a release on free contract if the club gets relegated. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if there isn't a clause in there somewhere that West Ham have to pay for his plane ticket to his new club.

Well there you go. They're assembling quite a good squad there. I wonder if they'd be willing to part with Cheik Tiote......................

Say what you want about their fat, shirtless fans, it is good to see Newcastle getting back on track.

They have a huge stadium, they usually fill the place, and they genuinely seem to love football and their team.

Ok let's make this a sweepstake. First come first served; cannot pick a team already picked by a poster above you. I'm gonna go with Bolton.

Who will sign Demba Ba?

ciderman9000000 - Bolton
The Black Pearl - QPR
Bergen - Newcastle
Sean_RedDevil - Everton
Mick1991 - Aston Villa
Devil may care - Sunderland
humdinger - Spurs
December_16 - Fulham
Snow - Blackburn
jgraham - Stoke
SharkyMcShark - Galatasaray
Elliott - West Brom

What do I win feckers?

Guitirrez--Barton---Tiote---Cabaye---Ben Arfa

Is easily on of the best midfield's outside the top 5 and With demba ba up top I think they have a great chance for a uefa cup spot. Defence could be their downfall. But it sounds like they have more money to spend so they could get even stronger

You win nothing because you didn't read the bit that said you can't pick teams that have already been picked and I said the barcodes in post #14.

That was before the sweepstakes even existed. I called dibs in the sweepstakes, you snooze you lose.

Great deal for Newcaslte, I said in January that they were right not to spend money on Carroll's replacement because they'd be screwed up by whoever they approached back then. They are using the £35m from Carroll's deal really well so far, Ba (signed for nothing) will provide them with goals and Cabaye at £5m was a great bargain too.

Why did West Ham let him go on a free though? He signed for them in January for £7m, that's some bad management!

Wonder why Nolan opted for Westham ? I don't understand this move, can anyone enlighten me ?

Also, I don't think Ba alone will be enough, they'll probably need 1 more striker if Niles does not improve the way he should...

They also have to look for a new LB if they part with Enrique... A player they will hugely miss imo.

Anybody catch his hat trick?

Yeah nothing too fancy....

1st goal was a good strike, the other two were headers - one from close range, and the other a bit of a glancing effort.

Good though, showed his classy side and then the opportunistic side. It's about his injuries, if he holds up, he'll be a massive asset for Newcastle and an excellent signing.

The Daily Mail are reporting our interest in him due to a £5m release clause in the summer. A member of his 'management team' seems to confirm the United interest in somewhat broken English, though says there's 'nothing concrete'.

I'm a big fan of Ba and think he has what it takes to make it.

He's certainly worth keeping an eye on and possibly sussing out, he's been sensational since coming to the Geordies. Just a matter of keeping him fit, I've a fear that if he came he might go all Louis the rou on us and spend a lot of time on the physios office.

Say we did go for him who would that mean is leaving to make way surely Mickey Owen seeing as we have already said we will be keeping Berbajang
