Now we are negotiating to bring Del Piero to OT. It must be true, tribalfootball said so although it was on the Bloomberg site as well.

i believe that's the championship manager version. he's never played left wing for juve.
he's a forward or 'fantasista', the number 10 'in the hole' role. . .

weaste is right in saying that he's an attacking midfielder, 'cos that's what a 'fantasista' is. . .totti, baggio, del piero. . .not out-and-out strikers, but link-men and creators. . .

ahh but what he was saying was that we didnt need another midfielder. Del Piero is not a CM, hes more the Sheringham/Cantona deep lying forward. Theres always room for one of those is the United squad.
still think the stories b.s though

it's tribal football. of course it's nonsense.
del piero will probably sign a new contract with juve next week. . .

DP is a forward. Last year with Trezeguet they were the best strike partnership in Serie A, and one of the best in CL. Before Trezeguet, DP was partnering Pippo Inzaghi, with Zidane being the "trequartista".
He's also played as a "trequartista", after Zidane left, but is more comfortable playing upfront.
Btw, this discussion is futile as Juve won't sell him anytime soon.

I think this year may be his best ever.
I'm not talking about his number of goals scored only, which are an important indication inanofitself, but also the way he's playing inventing passes into space, dribbling with extreme ease and shooting the ball in incredible tight angles.
Del Piero is not a CM, hes more the... deep lying forward.<hr></blockquote>
WTF is a deep lying forward?
An attacking midfield player maybe?
Oh, an attacking CM player maybe? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
4:5:1, Scholes is a forward? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

What's that got to do with it? Look at how many goals Scholes has scored for England compared to the "forwards", it doesn't make him a forward now does it?

So, Del Piero is a striker now... give me a break!

What do you base this on?
Obviously whether he is an attacking midfield player, or a forward is not that important, but I'm just curious as to what are your criteria for making up this judgement.

Scholes partnered RVN for many games last year, does it make him a forward?
No! <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

Because, if Juve had Ronaldo or Gonzalez or RVN, then Del Piero would be put back into his correct position - a left sided attacking midfield player. The trouble is, Juve don't have a Ronaldo or a Gonzalez or an RVN to accompany Trezywotsit.

They have Salas, Di Vaio or Zalayeta who can partner Trezeguet. Yet they chose DP.
btw, the left sided attacking midfielder at Juve goes by the name of Nedved. He was bought precisely to push DP upfront and not let him handle any midfield duties in the post-Zidane era.

If Fergie let's him partner RVN upfront the whole season, and then some more, and if he's succesful and happy at that position... he wouldn't be a forward?

Love to have him but we still need pace up front (and preferably someone who does not run around like a headless chicken ala DF)......</strong><hr></blockquote>
After his serious injury a few seasons ago he has already lost most of his pace.

You say we need another good forward, what the feck is Del Piero. He would be an ideal player for us, he is a creative front man, something we have been lacking since Sheringham left.
