Del Piero

We do not need another attacking midfield player, we need A) Another good forward, and B) A flexible fullback that can play on both flanks.

Signing Del Piero would be a joke!

he's a forward or 'fantasista', the number 10 'in the hole' role. . .

weaste is right in saying that he's an attacking midfielder, 'cos that's what a 'fantasista' is. . .totti, baggio, del piero. . .not out-and-out strikers, but link-men and creators. . .

ahh but what he was saying was that we didnt need another midfielder. Del Piero is not a CM, hes more the Sheringham/Cantona deep lying forward. Theres always room for one of those is the United squad.

DP is a forward. Last year with Trezeguet they were the best strike partnership in Serie A, and one of the best in CL. Before Trezeguet, DP was partnering Pippo Inzaghi, with Zidane being the "trequartista".

He's also played as a "trequartista", after Zidane left, but is more comfortable playing upfront.

Btw, this discussion is futile as Juve won't sell him anytime soon.

As you can see, last year was the best since his injury, but he's not at his 97-98 levels. However, he's got 4 goals in 2 games in Serie A, and 1 goal in 2 games in CL. Not a bad start ;)

I think this year may be his best ever.

I'm not talking about his number of goals scored only, which are an important indication inanofitself, but also the way he's playing inventing passes into space, dribbling with extreme ease and shooting the ball in incredible tight angles.

I would like to see him at OT because he is pure class.

What's that got to do with it? Look at how many goals Scholes has scored for England compared to the "forwards", it doesn't make him a forward now does it?

This DP rumour is more than just a normal rumour because I've seen references to it at the bottom of Teletext this morning. I though it was bull but now that it's been mentioned on here there may be something to it.
 
A think a player like Del Piero is what is needed, i do however have doubts about him as such. He is a tad injury prone and would nt inspire much faith, that said if he comes he could be brilliant! Id support a move for him.
 
I would LOVE to see Del Piero at Old Trafford. Brilliant player; so far this year he has been superb. He would be a perfect player to partner Ruud.

I'm surprised to see this kind of agruing can occur... Del Peiro is a forward. He partnered with Trezeguet up front last season and he was the partner of Inzaghi the seasons before. Anyone who said that he is not a forward either never watch Juventus play or simply cannot distingush the differnce between a midfielder and a forward.

BTW I don't think he will come, and his obvious lack of performance in "big stages" in his career also didn't impress me (He was poor in two world cup and Euro 2000, and he also didn't perform well in CL with Juventus either).

They have Salas, Di Vaio or Zalayeta who can partner Trezeguet. Yet they chose DP.

btw, the left sided attacking midfielder at Juve goes by the name of Nedved. He was bought precisely to push DP upfront and not let him handle any midfield duties in the post-Zidane era.

Del Piero is a forward. Period.

Last season when Juve played with one forward (Trezeguet) AleSSandro was on the bench. Now if Lipi (sp?) thought him a midfielder, he would have played in the midfield instead of sitting on the bench and then coming on as a forward later on.

Now, even if he wasn't a forward, if he ceme to United, he'd meke a good forward, because of his skills so that would meke him a forward anyway.
 
Signing Del Piero would be outstanding.

I agree about the pace problem though, but how many creative 'hole' players with blistering pace are there? Any?
