Deaner had a poor day today. I absolutely love that he is willing to come off his line but today he came for balls that he shouldn't come for, but stayed on his line for balls he should have came for. Case in point being their goal. That was headed 3 yards from goal and it was an inswinger. That's Deaner's ball all day long and he needs to patrol that area. But then a couple times when he should have stayed on his line (15 seconds in) he came out. There was another in the second half that he came for that shouldn't have. It's all about risk and reward. On the first, the only thing they are going to do is head it at goal from 18 yards out. Let it come to you. On the second, Lindelof is all over it, so stay on your line. In the end it only cost one goal, but a bump in the road on his learning curve...

Set pieces are more of a puzzle to me than errors sweeping, which happen to even the best sweepers.

The below is for the season up until this week. Obviously we're looking at a small sample size but this is where I'd like to see improvement, particularly as his last season's data (albeit for a different team) was also less-than impressive.

Unlike De Gea (who is a known quantity in this regard) I don't see why we wouldn't expect more from Henderson, who is good enough at claiming in open play to suggest he should be better in regard to set pieces.

I don't think the data is particularly at odds with the general impression formed thus far either, as I think most people would probably say he's looked a bit weak on set pieces?

But in general errors (to a certain degree) are a natural consequence of having a more aggressive goalkeeper. You're not going to get the benefits without the occasional downside.

Looked like he spooked himself going into the game after reading the scouting report on Burnley.

Not his best today but can be forgiven as he's been pretty solid overall. We all have off days at work. Henderson no different.

As it didn't cost us I can look back at his performance and laugh, GK's have always been a little mental and he's a throwback to that. Again as it didn't cost us I actually don't mind his eagerness to get involved

Some real feck ups today, which thankfully didn't cost us. If you're looking to take positives though, he didn't shrink back into himself. Shows great character that.

Also, that save he made where he got clattered was fantastic. I question whether De Gea would have been as brave there.

Henderson reminds me so much of Pickford. Can’t believe fans think he is a better keeper than De Gea

It looked like he was trying too hard to sweep up from behind. Was in no man's land for the two errors.

I'm also surprised that nobody is blaming him for the corner goal. DDG would have absolutely been destroyed here for "not coming out of his line to catch the ball."

I'm thinking the media hype has played into Dean's mindset. They keep raving about how great he is for coming off his line yet for the goal that was offside in the first minute he should have stayed in his goal.

For the Burnley goal he was then DeGea like rooted to the spot.

That's true, but within that group of keepers, there's a big gap in quality. He's inexperienced at this level so we'll see. Thought he was pretty reckless today.

He’s not a kid anymore, we can’t use that excuse. He’s a multi-year PL player & a longer multi-year starter in various levels.

Today showed the downside of a more proactive keeper.

With the current team makeup, he seems to solidify the back line / team more than a reactive keeper like DDG. There’s more of a semblance of cohesion.

We shouldn’t discount his errors completely out of hand today as a bit of a tone off; if they continue throughout the remainder of the PL season, then the discussion / decision of who should start next season becomes much more acute & difficult.

Still think Henderson pips it as the starter next year. The run in will be crucial for evaluation.

The first poor game he's had, and the knives are out.
Give the lad a chance, he's learning every game he plays, just as De Gea did when he first joined. De Gea was not the complete goalkeeper when he first played, it took him pretty much a full season to get the experience, and decision making right, even then a goalkeeper will always be prone to an error or two, and not every decision will be correct.
Have some patience.

He was poor against Milan too (the away leg I think) and, like today, a few tight refereeing calls bailed him out. Not sure how long that can last.

I feel like he knows that the biggest issue Dave has is his outright refusal to leave the line 95% of the times, so Hendo sees that as a potential advantage and overcompensates for it with overzealous runs forward, regardless of whenever it's a right decision at the moment or not. Which leads to mistakes. Also, he didn't shout anything to Lindelöf before their collision (they showed a good replay and you can see that he runs for a while without even making a sound), which led to a very awkward situation. Basic mistake that shouldn't happen on this level.

Just don’t see the attraction of Donnarumma outside the potential free transfer. Would he be that much of an upgrade on Henderson / DDG?

ive not seen that much of him. He’s very imposing though, and a lot bigger than Henderson. I’d suggest that’s a big attraction.

Whether he’s better I don’t know. He’s pretty experienced for a player so young.

There's always going to be downsides and goals conceded like today's one (thankfully disallowed) with a pro-active keeper but overall, the pros outweigh the cons by some distance in my opinion.

There's so many occasions now where Henderson is sweeping up and clearing the danger, or even setting up a counter attack, whereas De Gea, in the same situation, would be rooted to the line and gifting the opposition a clear one on one chance.

In short, I think having a proactive keeper (whether it's Henderson or not) makes us not only more solid in defence but also more dangerous in attack, so I think going back to De Gea now would be a massive step backwards.

As much as I love DDG, I have to agree. Overall & on balance, I think Henderson makes us a better team.

Not just based on today’s performance, but across the season I still feel we won’t win anything next season if we let DDG leave in the summer. Deano is decent but not top class.
What will we certainly win next season with DDG?

Shite today. Made one mistake and then started being erratic trying to make up for it

And lose the cap!

He us trying too hard to distinguish himself by being a sweeper keeper. Got to pick the situations and not rush out all the time. Otherwise teams will try to exploit this in future.

He was attention seeking in my opinion, trying to make a name for himself and provoke discussion. He succeeded in that respect. It wasn't that sunny, the Burnley keeper didn't need a cap in the first half. Wearing a cap also will prevent him from competing for headers.

It's amazing how quickly people make judgements about a goalie. He is the same age as Rashford and McT and that's feckin' young for a goalie.
He will need a couple of seasons before we can pass any judgements.

He doesn't exude any calmness which a United GK should do. Some very poor lapses of judgment when coming off his line v Burnley that on another day could easily get punished. In this run of game he's had, he's done ok, he hasn't shown enough to be United No1 for the future. So if we decide to go ahead with him, he'll have to grow into the role and improve his decision making.

I think you need to be informed that the sun will be in a different location in the sky after 45 minutes.
Can’t believe him wearing a hat triggered so many people

He had poor game vs Burnley. Made couple of errors judging the flight of the ball. Hopefully this won't stop him to come out of the line quickly. The number of chances they prevent is much higher than one or two goals conceded trying to claim the cross/high ball.

Seeking attention and trying to make a name for himself by.....wearing a cap. This is up there with people blaming Depay's poor form at United on his car.
