He hasn’t watched much of Burnley in his career
Set pieces are more of a puzzle to me than errors sweeping, which happen to even the best sweepers.
The below is for the season up until this week. Obviously we're looking at a small sample size but this is where I'd like to see improvement, particularly as his last season's data (albeit for a different team) was also less-than impressive.
Unlike De Gea (who is a known quantity in this regard) I don't see why we wouldn't expect more from Henderson, who is good enough at claiming in open play to suggest he should be better in regard to set pieces.
I don't think the data is particularly at odds with the general impression formed thus far either, as I think most people would probably say he's looked a bit weak on set pieces?
But in general errors (to a certain degree) are a natural consequence of having a more aggressive goalkeeper. You're not going to get the benefits without the occasional downside.
He's not, but okay.As I said before, hes a poor man's Pickford. We could get Donnarumma for free.
We'll find out the hard way. He's not, but okay.
The first poor game he's had, and the knives are out.
Give the lad a chance, he's learning every game he plays, just as De Gea did when he first joined. De Gea was not the complete goalkeeper when he first played, it took him pretty much a full season to get the experience, and decision making right, even then a goalkeeper will always be prone to an error or two, and not every decision will be correct.
Have some patience.
I know... what was he thinking with that cap!?
Who was terrible against us in both legs.As I said before, hes a poor man's Pickford. We could get Donnarumma for free.
This looks less like the billed yarmulke he seemed to be wearing in the previous pic.Don't understand this, Dean Yashin looked great.
Just don’t see the attraction of Donnarumma outside the potential free transfer. Would he be that much of an upgrade on Henderson / DDG?
If he also had skill of Yashin, we would be golden. Just a cap so far.Don't understand this, Dean Yashin looked great.
He’s not a kid anymore, we can’t use that excuse. He’s a multi-year PL player & a longer multi-year starter in various levels.
Today showed the downside of a more proactive keeper.
With the current team makeup, he seems to solidify the back line / team more than a reactive keeper like DDG. There’s more of a semblance of cohesion.
We shouldn’t discount his errors completely out of hand today as a bit of a tone off; if they continue throughout the remainder of the PL season, then the discussion / decision of who should start next season becomes much more acute & difficult.
Still think Henderson pips it as the starter next year. The run in will be crucial for evaluation.
As much as I love DDG, I have to agree. Overall & on balance, I think Henderson makes us a better team. There's always going to be downsides and goals conceded like today's one (thankfully disallowed) with a pro-active keeper but overall, the pros outweigh the cons by some distance in my opinion.
There's so many occasions now where Henderson is sweeping up and clearing the danger, or even setting up a counter attack, whereas De Gea, in the same situation, would be rooted to the line and gifting the opposition a clear one on one chance.
In short, I think having a proactive keeper (whether it's Henderson or not) makes us not only more solid in defence but also more dangerous in attack, so I think going back to De Gea now would be a massive step backwards.
What will we certainly win next season with DDG?Not just based on today’s performance, but across the season I still feel we won’t win anything next season if we let DDG leave in the summer. Deano is decent but not top class.
And maybe he will learn from this?He us trying too hard to distinguish himself by being a sweeper keeper. Got to pick the situations and not rush out all the time. Otherwise teams will try to exploit this in future.
I think you need to be informed that the sun will be in a different location in the sky after 45 minutes. He was attention seeking in my opinion, trying to make a name for himself and provoke discussion. He succeeded in that respect. It wasn't that sunny, the Burnley keeper didn't need a cap in the first half. Wearing a cap also will prevent him from competing for headers.
