De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

If they offer £150m and allow us to buy Bale then would you accept?

With Romero we have a very capable keeper so we don't need to buy a replacement, plus we can use the money to reinvest in our full backs.

We need a better keeper than Romero as #1 though he's decent as back-up. If DDG leaves, we should be looking at the next best level - Courtois, Oblak and Alisson. Handanovic is worth a shout too.

Alisson is priced at 80 mil-ish, Oblak at similar levels and we have other positions to address, so definitely 100 mil isn't enough for us. Either 100 mil and cut-price Bale, or 150 mil up front.

Yeah at £100m we'll have to spend the bulk of it to get an adequate, but still inferior replacement. We'd essentially be worse off without anything left to strengthen the squad otherwise, which would be a bad deal.

I don't know why you people can't just trust Romero. He's never put a foot wrong for us.

People trust Romero. And I think there will be a good % of people open to the idea of not needing to buy a No 1, in case De Gea leaves.
I am in that group.

However, nothing is more stupid than losing one of the world's best keepers when you had him for 7 years and he has his entire prime years ahead.

The problem with romero is that he's always punching the ball instead of catching it. In some cases its the best option but when you punch the ball its always 50% chance it will end up in a bad place. So I wouldn't trust Romero as our #1. And we will have to spend all of those 100 mil for a replacement so we wouldn't be making any profit from it. Makes no sense, the transfer fee must be 150+ and I completely agree with how stupid it is to be in this situation.

This thread is a real roller coaster isn't it ?

Not really, since the fax machine I've never seen anything to suggest he's going anywhere, in fact everything has pointed to him staying here for the rest of his career (or until we want to replace him)

It's De Gea who is on a roller coaster, it's the posters here who panic on almost every quote or mistake done by Navas about De Gea getting sold that's the real roller coaster.

Sure. But if he doesn't want to spend his prime years here... And won't sign a new contract... A time will come to cash in, as much as it sucks to see him go.

I don’t know David personally but I’m pretty sure he’s already running down his contract to allow him to become the best paid player in the world in 2 years.

A goalkeeper will never be the best paid player in the world. And while DDG is one of the best, he's not without fault. And there's only so much you can do from his position. A player like Ronaldo or Messi will always be way more important, and thus better paid.

Remember this post ;)

In 2 years he’ll be in his prime and there will be a few clubs ready to give him $200m for a 4 year contract.

Genuine world class players rarely run their contracts down.

DDG on Messi level money in 2 years... Yeah okay. Let's see :p

And we get Oblak or Courtois or whoever WC keeper out there while you keep stick with Mignolet and Karius.

Never thought I’d say this but goalkeepers are never looked at as a valuable but DDG deserves Messi money. If the fax had of went through he would of won 3 cl at Madrid which he deserved but I’d hate to see where we would be. He saves us 10-15 points a season and that’s not a over exaggeration

If Sanchez can con you guys out of 500k a week then DDG can certainly hope for 1mil a week when his contract expires.

That’s what Lyon says too. You got conned into paying 75m for van dijk so you’re not going cheap on fekir

AS Roma owner James Palotta has just said in an interview that Alisson is close to going to Madrid!

They could sign both Alisson and Courtois and people would still worry about DDG.

He was never going anywhere this season.
Still doesn't remove the risk of him leaving if he doesn't sign a new contract .

We showed great faith in him when he first came, and I'm sure that has factored into his decision all these years. But it's not as if SAF is still here. Most players can't refuse Real, and throw in De Gea is Spanish to boot. Surprised he's stayed this long, tbh. Maybe as an Atletico fan he just can't find it in him.

It does. He’s not leaving United for anyone other than Real.

I wish that more of our players would conduct themselves in the manner that De Gea has for the past few years. Head down, work hard and let your work do the talking.
