I just refuse to believe a goalie this good is past it when he's supposed to be entering his prime. We've seen excellence galore from the man, it will return.
I'm not trying to convince you otherwise, but the level of competition between the keepers and the forwards is vastly different.

A huge contract for DDG at this stage is totally unwarranted because the team in front of him will continue to let him down and affect his confidence. When we can score more than the opposition like we used to then the opposite effect comes into play. No big contracts for anyone until we sort the chaff from the wheat. Bring Henderson back from Sheffield and let DDG go. The way we're playing currently dictates we should.
I'll show you plenty. They aren't top keepers though. BTW, even the best in the world makes mistakes. Van Der Sar made many dumb mistakes but De Gea has consistently been making mistakes for a year. It's to the point where I feel it will happen again with the next few weeks.
He already cost us 4th place last season. He's not a top keeper anymore purely because of his reliability. Making 14 jaw dropping saves in a game doesn't make you a top keeper, it's consistency.
This ain't the first time it has happened. Joe Hart when downhill fast and never recovered. Okay, Hart was never close to De Geas level but point stands. Same with Barthez.

I don’t see it with Dave. For me his game is regressing. Not really great on the ball. Not great at being a sweeper keeper and commanding his own box. He was basically a great shot stopper and now that’s deserting him. We should have sold him in the summer.

Van Der Sar started out his career great and then went a bit downhill to say the least. But he recovered with us late in his career. De Gea might find his mojo back in a few years or even later, but for now and at United? I dont see it, seems like he needs a change of scenery and maybe some years of going through a bad spell before coming back in great form. He is still young, so you never know, but i would be surprised if we see him in great form again in the coming years. His issue is he relies on reflexes a lot, and with age, they regress rather than improve. His overall game isnt great, so will he improve on that? Doubtful
The only rational option left is to burn him at the stake.
Funny thing is I think he saved a more difficult shot at 1-0, the zaha one.
De Gea should be taken out of the firing line until he sorts his contract situation out one way or the other. A break may also do him good so he can clear his head.

We wont get rid of him with his high wages if he signs. We should have quite clearly sold him the last summer for 30-50m and moved on, which i said plenty of times. Would have been a terrific deal. He will be another Alexis in a year or two

Six year deal would be ridiculous, he has been great for us and that is why we have been paying him a huge amount currently but I think the thing is we can kiss Hendo good bye if we go that long term with De gea; Get him on a 3yr deal and if his form drops off then listen to offers.

Two years ago he could have written his own ticket, but I fear he is in decline. Now I'd be telling him to like or or lump it. If he doesn't want to renew on what is on the table then cheers and don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.
Some of the goals he's let in can't be just down to a decline either at 28 IMO. If we take a step back and think with a clear mind for a second and analyse his errors, it seems to me like he's not focused or concentrated with some of the attempts that are going past him where you don't even have to be excellent in a reflex sense. Maybe he needs a fresh challenge elsewhere to motivate himself? He obviously wanted to join Madrid which didn't come to fruition, which must've been a personal dissapointment for him.
It seems to me his concentration levels and motivation are a bigger issue. His form for Spain and losing the #1 spot to Kepa must've dented his confidence too.

Should never have let it get to this. How we let our key players get this close to the end is ridiculous. It's not like he was a good player we could maybe replace, he was our best player for years and of all the players, deserved his demands to be met
I am not too bothered about it. DDG rely a lot on his reflexes and they will only get worse the older he gets. I think we have a great goalkeeper in Henderson and I would love if he got his chance next year.
He's been incredible for us. But we should have sold him this summer to avoid this situation. I'd imagine someone would have been willing to pay 50 million for him.
I think it’s time for a change. Has been very poor for the last 12 months, not ideal from a financial perspective but there’s an argument to say he should be dropped anyway.
