Are we handing out another out of form player with massive wages on the back of that disastrous season? Is the Club insane?
90m for 5 years of his absolute prime? So you're telling me we're paying 18m a year for the best keeper in the world? You're also telling me we're paying 80m in one year for an above average CB?

Or he is just leaving it until the end then he could move for free with bigger contract elsewhere.
It’s a difficult one. For a while he looked ridiculously brilliant, virtually unbeatable and I don’t think a single United fan would have argued if we’d have handed him the keys to the club safe and said help yourself. In all honesty if he can get back to that level then this supposed new deal looks a bargain.
I think it’s the serious plummeting of his performances though that cause real concern. He didn’t just level out, he actually looked one of the poorest keepers in the PL for a sustained period. Internationally he dipped too.
He needs help defensively though and with AWB and hopefully Maguire becoming cornerstones of our defence, Shaw too, then hopefully he can settle back down again and get that trust back in his performances.

If anyone’s earned that money, it’s him. Dodgy few weeks towards the end of last season, but it’s about time we repaid him for his great service and showed some faith in him. Give him Sanchez’s money if we have to.
He's about the only player that actually earned the wages from the club. I'm fecking delighted to see him stay, the one and only player that I truly love in a United shirt.

I would try and sign Heaton to just ramp up the heat a bit on De Gea. With the financial outlay it’s unlikely we are ever really going to sit De Gea on the bench for too long but I don’t feel Romero, as capable as he is, is really putting any pressure on De Gea. Heaton has a wealth of PL experience and could comfortably come straight in as a boot up the backside to De Gea if his standards drop again.
4 errors leading to goals...! Under his and other goalkeepers standards that is high, but in real terms its tiny and he easily saved us way more than that.
Heaton is nowhere near United quality. For starters he's ten times worse with his feet.
Don’t think the club was planning on selling him. Every single report I’ve seen has said the same thing - would rather lose him for free next summer than sell him. The club really wanted to retain him and maybe it’s just us showing our gratitude for his loyalty (the same reason we are stuck with Young and Jones) plus our club is not that well run to ship off players the second they start showing signs of decline. Wonder why the same didn’t apply for Herrera but I guess we weren’t interested in giving him a five year contract.
I hope this new contract for DDG isn’t a mega long contract. 4 year with an option to extend should be enough. Very few keepers remain top class into their mid thirties and since DDG’s best attribute is shot stopping, age will definitely have an effect on his reflexes. But I expect us to give him a 5+1 year contract on 400k a week and then spend another 50 million on a keeper in three years when he starts to decline.

How is that important now? It’s the same shitty attitude that made us give Rooney a mega 300k a week contract when he was showing signs of decline. Real just sold Ronaldo even though he was in top shape. City are replacing David Silva who is still fantastic. Barca are replacing Suarez yet people are suggesting we pay 350k plus for a keeper because he has served the club well? So I’m guessing you will also be happy with Young staying for another 2 years on 350k?
As a club, we need to be more ruthless. A player starts declining, sell him. A player wants ridiculous wages to stay- sell him, because the only reason he’s staying is for the money. If any player deserves a bumper contract, it should be based on his performances and not because of what he did a few years back. I’m a big fan of DDG but if his heart is not here and if he is declining, then it’s high time to sell him rather than put him on ridiculous wages. I don’t know why his performances dropped, but if it’s because he’s declining or because he doesn’t really want to be here, then he shouldn’t be here. Doesn’t matter how talented you are, if your heart’s not in it, no amount of talent can help you. I hope we make sure that’s not the case before handing him this mega contract
An unbelievable shot stopper, possibly one of the best of all time, but he has no presence and communication with the defenders around him seems to be minimal, if at all. Typically in true Woodward fashion we waited until he showed visible signs of decline before rewarding him with a mega long term contract.
Our wage structure is well and truly broken. Can’t see it being recovered for a long time. It starts with squad players being on crazy money that no other club would pay them. Sanchez needs to be shifted ASAP.
If we did 4+1 we'd end up giving him another contract in 4 years and bumping his wage up yet again.

His form for the second half of last season was diabolical and for me, the biggest single contributor to our missing out on CL qualification (This is harsh but true I feel, goes with the territory for a keeper).
My head worries that we may be stuck with another mega-earning under-performer for years to come, while my heart says that if we are going to roll the diamond encrusted dice on anybody at the moment, it should be him.

Never excelled in European competition or on the International stage for Spain, but he's the best goalkeeper in the last 5 years and arguably our greatest.
Oh but he is though. A couple of howlers at the end of the season doesn't change that.
Forget the feet stuff. It’s the modern thinking maybe but I want my keeper to keep the ball out of the net first and foremost and Heaton is as good as any, certainly as a back up.

Heaton is good because Burnley defend deep and force the opposition to take daft shots from poor positions. He's good because he knows how to lead a team that has defending as their number one priority. He will get ripped apart the moment he signs for an attacking team.
Only our fans believe that. In Spain he even got dropped for Kepa. Suspect on the biggest stages and unproven at the highest level but he was in the top 5 at one point. 14/15 campaign and 15/16 campaign etc but not at the very top.

Whether or not he's the best isn't neither here nor there. He's in the absolute top bracket, and that's not an east thing to replace. I'd rather spend big on keeping him than spend big on replacing him.

I am shocked by the short-term memory of many "fans" here or wonder what games they saw over the couple of years! Yes, he had an average weak season. But call me 1 player since Ferguson's departure, which has not only been constant but has also saved countless games and points! Even when van Gaal did not let him play, he behaved professionally. He's one of the top 3 goalies in the world, in my opinion, and we would be stupid not to keep him.
350k- 375k a week. Don't think he would get this anywhere else.

I was all for selling him when it looked like he wanted to leave. If he has now decided to stay, he's worth every penny. Hopefully it's a signal that the club is serious about challenging again on all fronts.
He has been the best for a few years IMHO, but last season he wasn't. He's still a world class goalkeeper though and we'd do well to keep him. Just hope we still manage to extend Henderson's contract and send him out on loan to a PL club. Think he might just he the future for us.

Maybe not this summer, but definitely the next and we would had lost out on a 50m or so transfer fee as well. In a world where Ramsey on a free transfer gets 400k plus bonuses from Juventus, its not a crazy wage at all for a player with one year left on his contract.
